I was here whole weekend. Didn't care for Steve Miller opening. Lame asked audience first day who was gonna be here Sat. Half the crowd cheers. Then asks whose here all weekend. Half crowd cheers. But he played same set all 3 days. Anyway, I was doing lots of speed and L. Don't remember much. Came from L.A. in my VW bus. Brought 6 people. Came back with 5. We lost one. Lol he made it back ok. That's just how it was then. I just turned 50 a month ago. I would so love to go back. I'd slow down a little and cherish these moments. Man those were the days. Nothing but fun and doing whatever I wanted. Now it's work, bills, agggh. Seems I worry a lot more. About what I don't know? Shit if I made it this far?.....Lol

Wow..I can't believe this show is on KZbin, in it's entirety. I was here, and attended the rest of the weekend as well. I was in the Marine Corps then, stationed in 29 Palms, CA. A friend of mine who had never seen a show came with me, and as we drove through the desert coming in to the Nevada border, we started to see the random VW bus or car with a Dead bumpersticker and I would roll down the window, smiling and waving, and the people in the other car would cheer..(the migration). We were getting closer! Get to the parking lot and girls would come up and rub the bald headed Deadheads head (thanks to Marine regulation, lol)..I got some mileage out of that, and "FREE HUGS" which I would yell, lol. So much fun. The lot stretched out for quite a bit..this was not the average Dead show. Sand storm kicked up pretty big afterwards..does anyone remember that? So glad I got out of the Marines after four years, I was ready to go to college and be a writer, but one great thing that happened was all of the west coast shows that this kid from Kentucky got to see. The Marine recruiter didn't tell me I was going to be this lucky! I will say one last thing, before I ramble on into eternity here..if you can withstand a continuous lysergic moment for three days with very little sleep in Las Vegas and actually function AND have a blast..day to day stress that people go through at work, etc., seems comical, at best. Lol.

Well,,, it was a nice surprise and wonderful memory for me when China doll came on here. Magical time we had for these 3 shows in Vegas 1992. I was 29 , on my way out to southern California with my good buddy and the anticipation of this show right here made us actually leave our home city and goooooooo. We had another long term friend in san diego that we were going out to live with, and no ties, with nothing but joy to lead us into our new adventure and future. It was our first time ever in Vegas with a million heads flooding the place. It was so great. Plus we about to go to the west coast and become Californians. Preaching on the burning shore. Knocking on heavens door in western skies. The promised land. Well I will tell you one thing for sure: Like all promised land's, Including the one in The Bible, there was a lot of work to do.... and we slayed it! You know things like go in claim the land settle their clean the place up make it Ready to be a pathway for your miracle to come through . it' was a pretty indescribable feeling. Yep, with in a year we had both met our incredible future wives and were on our way. We all together opened up really nice, successful dance training studio called---- Mississippi Half Step Dance Studio & Adventure Tours ----' Nah, I was just shyttin' tall about the dance studio part. 😎🕺

Was this the show where Sting opened for them? Funny you mention being in the Marines at the time. I was in the Navy at the time, but I was a corpsman for 2nd Med Batallion out at Camp Lejeune. Originally from San Jose I was on leave back home a few months before the show where Sting opened and some friends of mine were going to that show. I was so jealous. If only I had been stationed at 29 Palms I could have gone. After Lejeune I finished my enlistment working at the clinic at MCRD in San Diego. By the time I got out I am pretty sure I knew more about the Marines than I did the Navy.

The EDM-esque "I'm A Man" jam, led by (presumably) Phil looping that riff, then everyone jamming off it (Jerry & Bob left the stage) is one of the wildest unique things I ever saw the GD perform in over 300 shows starting in 1974. Starts around 1:48:35

Holy shit!!! They had such a powerful sound this show, especially from drums, space, watchtower and that china doll was SMOKIN! I've never been crazy about china doll until I saw this version. Then a pumped sugar mags into the weight. When I started enjoying grateful dead music I didn't have an open mind for shows post Brent, I now feel that Vince had a whole heap of talent and I'm stuck on these 90-95 shows, granted they aren't all top notch. However when they were on they had pure power and force behind the sound! I highly recommend listening close to the transition of space to watchtower and you will see the musicianship that was the grateful dead!!

Well put Nicholas,,, I used to go into every show that I was fortunate enough to get to see, just expecting to witness a kind of miracle and musical genius that didnt seem to be attainable any other place or by anybody but Dr. Garcia and company. I am just now starting to come to grips with Jerry's death and how it all happened. Back then we had no internet ...... you couldn't find out ANYTHING without it. We knew nothing. We just went to see what was going to happen next. We couldn't even find lyrics to fvcking songs.... of ANY kind. It was really weird when I think about it now... there were very few places that you could get answers to any thing that you wondered about or wanted to know. You just basically wondered what the answer was until you forgot about it in defeat. Actually, there wasnt even anything to make you even wonder about stuff or want to find answers to. You just didnt "know" what you may have wanted to "know". If you wanted to know what Bobby's middle name is, you would have to find a book about Bob Weir. If you wanted to find out about a new guitar that Jerry had on stage,,,, you had to do all kinds of research to try to get lucky and find somebody who was in a business related to music who knew who had made some of his previous guitars for him..... and try to call EVERYBODY in the phone book to hopefully catch a break and every once in a while find the info that you were looking for. Mostly not. Mostly I gave up trying to find out information about things that I didnt have a specific book on the subject in question. Anyway I guess my point is that after Jerry died I knew nothing,,,, there was no videos or other things going around that you could learn about Or listen to.... So I basically blocked it out for About 15 years.....LOL. Great thing now is that I can actually enjoy listening to Jerry Garcia band and Grateful Dead shows without any sort of expectations. I just make it a point to enjoy at all whatever Show I happen to be listening to. It's really nice. Incredible actually. And as far is Jerry goes, I'm still digging and trying to piece together something, something was weird about how it all went down at the end..... And I'm going to find it out eventually. Peace to all, and to all a good night. .... Have a Jerry Christmas and a Happy New Weir!

I remember that moment like it was yesterday. My friends and I were sitting in the back of the stadium, in the center about a dozen rows down from the top. Bobby in top form and the asian guy dancing in his seat, and Jerry turning around and making conversation was classic. also amusing was their private channel in the PA going out live in the beginning of the show. Vegas were always the best shows. First year, played with Santana. I believe this was the second year. Only time bad was last year when they scheduled them for July instead of May, it was way too hot. I drove from LA, got to parking lot in search of tickets, looked for five minutes, then got back into car, turned around and headed to the Hilton to hang at the pool then drove back to LA. All in a day's work.. Only time I did not go to a show. It was just that hot.

No this wasn’t the second show cause I saw them there in ‘90 so if that was the first time, then this would’ve been their third. Vegas was definitely my favorite venue to see them and very easy from LA. Those were some good days.!
