This was my 21st birthday show. I had to venture to the top right hand corner of the stadium to let’s say gather my thought. I was all alone in the very top corner...Whoever were the kind gentlemen that keep me quenched with cold beers that night, I say thank you. What a night.

Agreed... Just listened to D&C's drums from San Fran ('23) and I was underwhelmed (though brought to tears by theo closer Knocking on Heaven's Door 😪), but this was in my history and I started watching it again. The intensity is phenomenal (even if the playing is not "perfect").... Thank you so much for these videos Edit: for the time stamp 37:44

I'd been Italy visiting my girlfriend, and while having a very late breakfast at the Toronto airport I got a paper and saw The Dead were playing that evening in Buffalo. So ... I jumped on a plane and went, arriving at the stadium about 6:00 pm. Stumbled in stoned on 'lack,' and wandered about trying to find a ticket. A great group adopted me -- and when I mentioned I'd just got in from Italy they assumed I'd come for the concert, so they were impressed. Anyway, I got a ticket, baked, napped for an hour and then had an incredible time! Not my first Dead show, not the best I'd been to, but certainly the one where I felt most welcome. The party went on till about 5:00 am, when I somehow got to the bus terminal and managed to get myself back to Toronto. Zack, Maria, Annette and Bob -- you were great! Four of the most wonderful people I've ever met! Peace!

I thought I was pretty rough, and felt kind of sad at the time as it was pretty clear to me that Garcia was a shell of his former self. Compare this to buff 90, 89, hell, even 86 and it's not even in the same universe. Would I rather be there than not? Of course, but there was no denying to anyone paying attention that it really was "down hill from here" not trying to be negative. Just realistic to the space I was in at the time, and that made me sad

He told me this" son i saw some great shows for sure but the best shows that i ever heard is now" he loved the 90s era. I never ever heard him complain about a slow night. He still says some of The Deads best performances were in the 90s.

oh man! What a time! I was outside ticketless for the first set. We kept by the fence, as one person would climb and jump over, security would chase them, and someone else would jump down the way. It kept going back and forth like that for a while, and the fence rocked, and swayed and almost came down, but I never made it over - then, in the end, they opened the gates between the 1st and 2nd and let us in! I was so lucky to have the opportunity to walk to the sound booth and enjoy the 2nd set mid floor and thrilled! What a show! The lot was a mess of madness, joy and wild trips- the drums circled out from the back of our truck, and we had a hell of a time! I left my body a few times that trip, and barely made it back, but glad I did :)

All of this is subjective, but for me 92 was the last great year for the original GD. I went to quite a few shows that year and a handful of them were absolutely excellent (12-16 & 17 back to back is my last great memories from my REAL hippie years, and a classic set of shows, imo). For some reason, to my ears, to the feelings I got at shows, the magic jumped out the window in 93 (and I mean, like, by January, the 25th was a birthday show for me, and not particularly great). I know a lot of people stand by 93 and 94 as having good shows, but I just didn't feel it anymore. In 92 I was definitely still feeling it.

I kept thinking Vince Welnick would do White Punks or Dope or something from The Completion Backwards Principle ............................The Who song was cool Baba O'Riley................................Welnick was not in the best health anyway. Just before the start of the Dead's final summer tour in 1995, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and emphysema. He beat the cancer, but the respiratory disease left him increasingly weak and often out of breath, although he continued to smoke cigarettes and pot. He carried inhalers with him wherever he went. "He was on the spray can all day long," said one associate. Welnick was born and raised in Phoenix, Ariz., where the scene in the late '60s was so small, everybody knew each other from hanging out at the VIP Room, the town's sole rock club. Welnick moved to Los Angeles to make it in music, but wound up paying his rent selling office supplies over the phone. Guitarist Bill Spooner brought him back to Phoenix and formed a group called the Beans. Relocating to San Francisco in 1970, the Beans merged with another band of Phoenix refugees and renamed themselves the Tubes. The Grateful Dead has always been very much a man's world with a strict code of behavior, carefully developed over the many years of the band's history. Many insiders privately found Welnick's dramatic grieving out of proportion for someone who had belonged to the band as briefly and late in the day (Mydland, his predecessor, was still known as "the new guy" 11 years after he joined the band). The other four members had been with the Dead since the beginning, more than 30 years before. Welnick was the last "new man," the sixth player to the keyboard slot.

This was quite an event this show...this was last days of camping near a venue...and man, it was the shit. We parked across the street in someones back yard for 20 Bucks night before. There was a 7-11 down the street selling beer and ice. Line was a mile along at 830 am. My pal stuffed an orange full of shrooms and said, "looks like we will have to have breakfast while we wait in this long line"....to which I said, "what are you nuts, of course we will" and woofed it. We parked next to the goalie of the Adirondack Red Wings, Mark Lapointe, I think his name was, and he just won the calder cup/league championship. The place is the biggest stadium I ever seen. You dont want to get lost in the lot all lit up and lost but....it happens

Vince was the most under-rated pianist they had but I really wish he would've used an acoustic piano more. Brent really seemed to fit nicely into the band and seemed almost to rejuvenate Jerry a good deal. I really liked Brent. But when Keith Godchaux was at his prime - and playing a grand piano? Man alive he was great!! Particularly the "One more Saturday Night" from ....huh...i think it's from Europe '72. His solo is FIRE BABY!!

Once Brent checked out it was never the same. Garcia was never the same. Just like when Brent first got on board, things kept getting better and better every year. Most notably with Garcia. With Brent gone, things with Garcia seem to get worse and worse every year. And it wasn't just the fact that he was using. Whatever spark Brent brought and left with, was felt the most by Jerry.

***** There were a bunch of great Hornsby shows, MSG fall 90 smoked, Giants 91 was pretty spectacular. Garcia loved playing with Bruce, JGB was awesome during this time too.

***** That is one way to look at it, depending if you also got critical of the number of Bobby songs that displaced Jerry's. It was an incredible, couldn't describe if asked time. I got into them in 90 and the amazement kept rollin. I was out of high school by a few years and the routine rat race didn't seem inevitable. Guess what…I loooooved Throwing Stones. If you haven't checked out The Other One on Netflix, do.

7-16-90 was a better show, but Baba O'Riley/Tomorrow Never Knows encore made this memorable...

The boys look tired and un- inspired. Going through the motions. After Brent’s death things started to crumble. 92 was a tough year for the dead. The count down was on. Their were moments of magic scattered throughout the remaining years. Jerry started using heavy again. His playing got worse. He forgot lyrics more and more. He looked frail and weak. But then, out of the darkness they’d break through the clouds ,and it was pure magic. A magical night or an amazing set. A break out or something done so perfect it would make you cry. It Gave us hope that just maybe, everything was gonna be ok. Sadly it wasn’t to be. But it was fun while it lasted

Garcia got super fat again in 92, hence the break and the 30 plus pound weight loss seen at Dec 92 and Spring 93

Summer 92 is not the best, which I felt when seeing the shows, but I do like the Baba/tomorrow never knows encore. The rest of the set, kinda meh. I would look elsewhere for much better versions of all these songs.

yes. there are FAR better versions of the songs that they played during the 2nd set here. It was a bit lacklustre.

likening a man's departure to that of a locomotive is a metaphor, so showing a literal train isn't really a helpful visual aid in terms of enjoying the song.

I was at this show. 18 years old. Met a really sweet blonde girl and we hung out second set. If you're reading this, I should have kissed you. Sorry. I was high.
