really glad this recording has the audience "noise" just hearing the audience reaction as people recognized the opening notes of this I got goose bumps from the memory of what those moments felt like back when and now tears of thanks and regret for so many whats come and gone it does matter really

Ever been moved to tears goin down the interstate listening to this Cornell Dew? Now I can say that I have. Right from the first note and opening sequence, I felt so much tension and emotion in each phrase, leading to the massive build-up of passion and musicianship at the final crescendo, it was just overwhelming. What a song, and what a band! GRATEFUL DEAD!!!

Alwxys feel that in the soul especially this Morning’s Dew Cry No, it’s my fave song ever I’ve been playing it for … hmmm awhile I need another 20 years or so to sound like kinda this , I try to do my own version of course I draw heavily from this one and that 66 show from Ontario that is very raw and lots of fuzz on Jerry’s geetar! Think it’s 66 don’t hold me to it. These aluminum kneck guitars have a wicked tone . Only if I could ever afford one or fine one OMFL

Rolled into work one morning, red eyed from crying. Caring co-workers immediately inquired if all was ok; hard to explain to them that I had just been listening to Morning Dew. 🤔

The last song Jerry sung at my last show in April of 1995…. and we were all full of tears, joy, love, and an awareness that Jerry was sick, his voice frail at first , but my gosh he ended that song like he was roaring in our hearts…miss him so much ! See you in the resurrection Jerry… in the new world!

If I had to pick one moment that was the Dead's most inspired and transcendent, the Cornell '77 Morning Dew would be it.
@glyn4203 жыл бұрын
Maybe there most passionate vocal performance but not close to their most inspired or transcendent playing. Not even close.

@@glyn420 I've been listening to and playing music for over half a century, have seen the Grateful Dead hundreds of times, and have written reviews for Downbeat magazine. You are straight-up mistaken.
@glyn420 Жыл бұрын
@@RobHollanderMusic and. None of that makes your response correct. I don’t give a shit who or what you played or wrote for you are the one who is wrong.the playing isn’t remotely complex enough to be their best. There are countless other ones, dark stars, playing in the bands that destroy this playing. The Watkins glen jam destroys this playing. Again vocally transcendent but the playing they’ve done better
@RobHollanderMusic Жыл бұрын
@@glyn420 Well, let's agree to disagree. I was stating an opinion that is something that is subjective, and your comment implies some sort of objective reality in art - which of course doesn't exist, thus you were both ignorant and condescending at the same time. One piece of music cannot "destroy" another piece of music; even your metaphors are telling. And if "complexity" is truly your ultimate value in the playing of music, why are you listening to The Dead? If it truly was your criterion for musical performance, you'd be into jazz and classical.

The whole set is so intertwined it’s almost overwhelming the first few times one dives into it deeply with out the cut outs of CDs or computerized version. Find a real tape bootleg it’s a whole nother plane of sound if you’ve heard it on tape you know!!🔥💥

Kind of ironic this song about nuclear holocaust was played at a military science building.
@michaellazarou87247 жыл бұрын
tripsaplenty For years now, Barton Hall has been known more as a hub for intramural sports and as one of the better indoor track and field venues in upstate NY. It also happens to be a great place to see a concert and is used frequently for that purpose. However, the "military science" sign still exists on the outside of the building and I appreciate your sense of irony. :-)

Its not about a nuclear holocaust.. its the day after the RAPTURE and the unbelieving are about to face the Time Of Tribulation. Remember to keep your head up when you refuse to take the MARK
I'm not particularly a GD fan, and not at all familiar with the vast majority of their work. I've read about a "legendary" live show at Cornell being among their finest ever. Anyone better-informed than me case to share whether this was part of that show?

LOOK...... All shows are different they say this is the best BUT, I think It's really up to the listener. Europe "72 far better but like i said it's up to the listener how hearing both, be up to the person. The way Jerry sang on the '72 version are far more intense and life changing, it's when i knew i was born to be a Deadhead.
