Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.

It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

you are exactly right. During this era (89, 90) he brought a MUCH needed spark to the band. Watching his interplay with Garcia in all these shows is just wonderful. It seems every time I see Jerry smiling on stage, it was Brent related. Maybe it took 10 years, but he really was a profound and critical member of the band and their sound in this era. Nuts to think he would so quickly be gone

We used to listen to 'I Will Take You Home' at the end of a trip. The last song in the morning while we watched the sunrise and smoked a big fatty before going to bed. Somehow, at some point, it got nicknamed the “Tinkerbell Go Bye-Bye Song”. None of us remember who came up with it, but it stuck and we’ve called it that ever since. By the way, I’m talking about 25-30 years ago. I still love listening to it, though, as I go to sleep some nights.

FUCK!!!! they sounded good at that time. Wow. The Dead really never did get over Brent's loss until long after Garcia died. I don't think they chose to grieve his loss either, which while I believe I can understand their mindset as to why, in hindsight it was a huge mistake to not take at least a short break to figure out what they were doing next, or to just actually consciously acknowledge the huge loss (Barlow always had the opinion that the other guys in the Dead could have treated Brent better while he was alive, but that's another thing altogether). Hornsby is a talent second to none, but they had to know, at least unconsciously, that he wasn't going to be on the ride permanently, and as much as I actually appreciate Vince Welnick with Rundgren and The Tubes, I don't think he was a great choice for the Dead. He was not a natural improviser, and although I think the band and the sound guys made things harder for him by giving him a less than desirable palate of sonic choices, ultimately he was kind of a triangular peg in a bunch of circular holes, musically, imho.

The tragedy of the absolute beauty of this "life lesson" ballad Iz . . . Even though Brent played that song with all of his/ALL of OUR HEARTS out on the open to feel a human emotion . . . And although the sting of watching him play that song w/a photo on his keyboard of the absolute treasure of his life , that he would never live to see grow into fruition . . . WE were ALL left with the GIFT of the reality of that TRAGEDY . . . To remind us ALL that the choices we make WILL dictate the life that we lead . . . Or to blossom above his/all of our shortfallings to at least be available to watch OUR SEEDS GROW . . . To harvest what we sow . . . And do the very BEST that we can . . . To provide a fertile environment in which our flowers may all blossom to their FULL POTENTIAL ☯️ It's all any parent can hope for . . . Let the love of the song live and spread beyond our wildest dreams of . . . PEACE and LOVE and GOOD HAPPINESS STUFF 💜☯️💜

These early versions of "I will take you home" are interesting because they are the only times (that I know of) where Jerry played a midi guitar during a regular song before using Rosebud which had built in midi. When the Dead & Bob Bravlove started using midi for drums/space, Jerry was still using Tiger, which did not have midi. So he used a special midi guitar. Here he had to quickly change guitars. Afterwords he only had to turn a switch on Rosebud.
