I was there. Thanks. I know where we were sitting for this show. I can remember sharing a smile with a rando' in the crowd during "Loose Lucy" (or maybe "Man Smart (Women are Smarter)"). Hairy hippie guy walking by on his way somewhere. He made eye contact as he went by, and when I grinned at him, he reacted with a happy "Right-on!". and grinned back. An important datum for me in my ongoing testing of the hypothesis that: if you smile at people, they tend to smile back. It's an important truth. Grin at strangers for no reason. 🙂

Phil has a different ear than the rest of the band. Probably somewhat due to formal and avant-gardist classical training. Tom Constanten had a similar background. Only those two would site John Cage or Karlheinz Stockhausen as major influences, in actually listening to the sound (and silences), not just the musicality.

4 sure.....I was fortunate to have caught this one. In my top 10 and I've done full Alpine, MSG, Nassau, Meadowlands runs and the better part of several tours. It's funny I just posted about this show the other day and how it was the last time I got to see Brent. As a poster mentioned here, it was never the same after he left us.....the beginning of the end in my view. There was something about Brent. That gravelly voice. The new kid with something to prove; even 11 years later. The interaction between him and Jerry some nights was beyond magic.......so glad I was able to ride the original bus route.......and yes this show was quite a cooker !!!!

@@keithmall5810 I wasn't there myself. I was only 15 at the time. A friend of mine was there and gave me an audiance recording that summer. I was instantly hooked. Went out and bought Eurooe '72 and Terripan Station to start with after that. Saw my first show in Rich Stadium in '92. Missed the Brent years, but this show was my first experience to live Greatful Dead and I fell in love. The more I heard later day live shows, the more I realized just how good this show really was. Kind of a hidden gem for almost 30 years for a lot of people just experiencing it now. For years, whenever I needed a solid pick me up I'd listen this show.

@@jimkilroy2549 Hung up my Dead shoes after doing the entire '91 MSG run. Caught a few highlights between this Buffalo '90 show and then. Spring and Summer '91 had a few sparks but there were some shows where they just seemed tired and somewhat forced. The night they encored with Terrapin at Nassau Spring '91 was by far the worst I had seen them live. I'll never forget. It was a quick show. Jerry just stormed off the stage after Terrapin. Weird vibes. Went back on a lark in '95 to Highgate......so disappointed. Figured it was just a one off, so I tried again at one of the Meadowlands shows and I knew that was it. Even still, some of the greatest music live was created by these pioneers and I consider myself beyond fortunate to have witnessed just a small portion of what they produced over decades.

Me too my friend. The show before this at Foxboro was my first. That I went to. Went with a long time tour vet. Who made amazing professional tie dyes. I'd come home after school and help him. While he taught me. That was my keep ,for him to take me on tour that summer. Than out west from the last qshows at Tinley Park. Well being my first and so young I was completely overwhelmed at Foxboro. Sold alot of dyes. Got wasted. Never went in and had a blast. I will never forget the drive from there to this show in Buffalo. Every car on the highway were heads . Also going to Buffalo. Every car full of heads. Every rest area like another dead lot. The whole way. It was, lt was magic. But this time I had to get in . I got a face value ticket. Traded a tye dye for a nice hand full of some beautiful cubes. First for that too. Had a wonderful magic time. Great show, great summer completely changed my life. Remember seeing Jerry sitting behind an amp. With a beautiful lady. Watching CS+N open the show. Awesome show. Are you freakin' kidding me ? It was obvious they were having a blast as well, . This is shortly before our friend Brent died. I remember the day very well in New York City with my girlfriend. I cried, she thought I was a pussy. It took a while but Welnick and Hornsby picked up the shoes but it took two. At times Brent could ramble like every member… Except Jerry! He forgot lyrics but never went off point. Brent was such a great addition to the band after Keith. I've been listening to these songs for so many years and I always discover something new. That's the magic of the grateful dead is the intense layering of harmonies and notes, syncopation. From Big Pen to Jerry, rest and peace and thank you for the best music of my life.

drove across the state from the Hudson Valley to catch this show with a deadline to be at work by 10:00a.m. the following day. Yikes! 23 hours later, I was clocked in and on the floor. What a trip! Stopped in Ithaca to make t-shirts to sell in the bazaar as we were driving to it, still have one. One of the most memorable shows I ever attended for so many reasons - not least for the music which had the band on fire. Oh, and Jerry, in shorts, blasting away! Sugar>Scarlet? Yes, Please... One visual i recall is that of a female Head who had climbed up on top of one of the porta-potties lining the opposite end zone from the stage (no idea why or how, or if she had nose plugs...) doing the "round and round" during Loose Lucy... Classic!

First and best show! What a day. Hot as blazes. Thruway rest stops full of Heads all the way from Albany. Road to the stadium backed up for miles. CSN opener was excellent. He's great. And he added a neccessary vocal harmony to the band. At the same time though, I prefer Keith's time in the band..in my opinion he was with them during their greatest period (although one could argue that Tom Constantin was actually with them during their greatest run). I think I like the fact that Keith employed an actual Grand Piano rather than using a keyboard constantly. I love the sound of the piano far more than an electric keyboard (though I do like an organ sound too - like the one that Ray Manzerek of the Doors used!).
@channingchills2 жыл бұрын
@@wangson Huge fan of Keith, in general. But yeah, his use of the grand was awesome. Reminds me of Billy Powell’s use of the grand on some of Skynard’s live jams.
