I know right? I was 19 and this was my first GD show and second trip as my first trip was at a JGB show 5 weeks earlier. I got a ten strip as I was walking through the pedestrian overpass and the dude said that they were freshly double dipped. It was strong!!! lol

Great year, 89. Band was playing very well in 89. I'm pretty sure I was at this show, saw so many they blur together! - LOL. This is part of their fall pilgrimage to NYC area which was either at Madison Square Garden or this venue depending on the year. They would play several shows at a time in this venue.

Thanks for sharing this!! This was my first GD show as I just saw JGB on Sept 13 in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and I was hooked. Traveled down from Maine with a friend at age 19 and managed to get a ticket to this gem of a show. Going through the pedestrian overpass, I met someone selling freshly, double dipped blotter and he warned us. My friend and I each bought a 10 strip and I proceeded to take one and my friend took the whole strip. The blotter selling dude looked shocked and stated "You're fucked" and looked at me with concern in his eyes lol. We got into the show and sat down and it started to kick in just when "Let The Good Times Roll" kicked off an incredible show. I was really feeling it by the end of Althea and remembered that my friend took ten. I quickly turned and looked at him and he was staring at his hands as he waved them directly in front of him. I touched him on the shoulder and he stood up, stared at me for a second and he abruptly left and I never saw him again until 3 weeks later when he showed up looking for his bag of personals. I asked him where he has been and he stated "some kind people took me in and I followed Th Dead for a couple weeks lol. Okay, back to the show. I recall the human wave that was done between sets and I was peaking at this time (alone now, lol). It was amazing and I felt like I had to stand up when it came around as I could feel the energy lol. The rest of the show was incredible. When I finally found and got back to my subaru hatchback, I couldn't believe that it was vandalized and my tires were all slashed (again only 19 and still tripping hard). A kind woman must have noticed my distress and cane over and asked me to place my hand on the tires. Wow!!! They felt fine to the touch and all of a sudden my subarau was in perfect condition lol. I thanked her and was being forced by security to leave (without my friend but you know how that ended lol) so I proceed to head up route 95 and I was driving on waves as the highway was going up and down (I was 19 and stupid. I'm not proud). I noticed a hitchhiker in a bright tye dye so I picked him up (right on 95 mind you). He got in and said "oh you were at the show" and I turned to him and stated with my dilated eyes "oh yeah, it was great" He looked scared and stated "thanks man, I can be let out at this exit lol. I then got scared and decided to rest at the next rest area. I will always remember that show. Saw many more after that and never looked back. Thanks again for sharing.

What Bob plays is unreal. I never realized all the little nuances he played till I was front row 1 time in "87" and the amp on the stage behind his feet was at my face level. WOW is all I can say.

@@bozzaa Just insane, how does he do it? I nearly always positioned myyself dead center in front of Weir at shows, as close as I could get. While I was keenly tuned into what Jerry and Phil were doing, to say the least, my main focus was nearly always watching Weir's fingerwork intently and listening to his sound.

I was also at this show. I did that whole Meadowlands run. I camped across the street in an industrial parks many runs there. Put tents in the Elephant grass stealth style. The local cops even got to know us after a couple years and told us to just stay hidden as best you can to avoid complaints. We would take a shower in the sprinklers of the Industrial buildings after the show, the sprinklers would be on in the middle of the night. We would trip out after the shows till dawn. What a crazy time.

@@bozzaa A good friend of mine who was highly-respected at the time for his superb bootleg tapes (John Cadwell), sent me cassttes of this entire run. I listened to them heavily, thought they were generally very fine, noted many excellently performed individual tunes, but they didn't realky rank among my favorites. But now, after seeing this video, I'm definitely going to revisit them. Ah, yes, Northeast touring, with survival rates as high as 40%, lol. Good to hear you were treated decently by the cops. This venue was noted for very heavy-handed security.

@@tonydanis1480 Isn't the Byrne where Adam Katz, I think that was his name, was found under an overpass with his skull bashed in. Speculation was some staff pros used their big fat flashlights on him or Jersey cops with their nightsticks.

i didn't care much for the tones brent's keyboard was portraying, jerry's midi at the beginning of the coda ending, the misplaced beats or tired sounding back up vocals during terrapin, but otherwise i enjoyed the show a lot :)

Loved seeing Wolf reappear, didn't love the midi sound, not at all, but that's just me. I'll take the twang of the Tiger guitar over what came later, maybe even what came earlier, for that matter. Fun night, weird China>Rider, in a good way.
