They are masters of crescendo. Bringing it down so quiet to moments of silence, then the slowest of slow builds, listening intently to each other, each adding little nuggets of improvisational goodness. A couple bass notes here, a little guitar run there, some work on the cymbals and kick, with some piano chords and on and on as it builds furthur, each instrument chasing the other, adding a little more, blending together a little more, getting a little louder, swirling into a frenzy around the disco ball, light and sound bouncing off the walls to the audience and the Deadheads sending lightning bolts of energy back to the band and on and on it goes until it builds into an out of control freight train of sound and I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

This was a very memorable run of shows at Winterland in '74. I met my wife at this show as well as some life long friends. I'm old now, but still on the bus.

It's critical to understand what this song is about. It's really the world's saddest song. It's about nuclear armageddon, A young couple, perhaps the last people alive on earth, hiding in some shelter from the radioactive hellscape outside. Their infant child has already died. The wife is dying, delerious, and asking her husband to take her outside, into the morning dew. He demurs until, realizing that he too is dying, finally relents, saying, "It really doesn't matter, anyway." With a head full of acid, this is about as emotionally searing as a song can be.

Probably inspired by the book Silent Spring by Rachel Carlson. Even though the topic is harsh , it’s a beautiful song. Especially when Jerry and the boys play it.

I’ve seen the Dead with Jerry 150 times. There was nothing more fun than a Grateful Dead concert. You ask any Deadhead if they saw enough shows and their answer will always be no!!!👌👍✌️😀

Oh my, that was awesome , the camera work and audio captured the intimacy, respect and bond between the band and their fans, such a beautiful song, I was laughing and crying while I watched you and the vid, thanks.

This is from "The Grateful Dead Movie" and available for free on You Tube. Excellence throughout! Great street scene, from camping for tickets, right up to those hoping for a "Miracle" ticket, to the show. This is a "Wall of Sound" show and just watching them unload and assemble that beast is a show in itself! It's a must see!

Pin drops. The audience in tune with Jerry and the boys on every note. Thats just one of the masteries. They go quiet with everyone hanging to every note then crescendo with every member of the band jamming their hearts out that just gels together and you can listen to an individual or the jam interwoven in lockstep. One of my fav of all time.

The song is about coming out of your bunker in a post apocalypses world and realizing you are the only one left. and you wont last long, "I guess it doesn't matter.... anyway"

Well, that show was from 1974 I think so I would have been 8 years old, not old enough for that concert BUT I am old enough to be a grandma now (Im 56, my sister is 49 and she has an 18 month old grand baby), I would say most of the folks in that audience, if they're alive still would be very OLD grandma' and grandpa's but more like great-grandma's n pa's. It's so nice seeing younger people find their way onto the bus, welcome welcome we're so happy YOU are HERE! I saw Grateful Dead over 100 times, all up and down the east coast and then one very special, magical west coast tour (where I met both Wavy Gravy AND Ken Kesey!)

Very old? Nah, just old. I was 19 and went to these shows and many more. I'm 68 now. Old, but not "very OLD." Lol. Still on the bus.

One of my favorite songs for when I'm just relaxing and just wanting to shut off my brain. With the Dead each performance is slightly different from the last and the music just flows the way it flows.

The story goes that when Jerry played the final solo in this tune he turned his back to audience and played with tears streaming down his face. This show was preformed on the "Wall of Sound" PA. Look it up. It's a fascinating piece of innovation in live sound.

It's hard for me to imagine any adult over 20 yers olds in the US who has not heard the Dead's Morning Dew...🧸✌. But you're never too young or too old to discover Jerry and Bobby''s creation.
