Amazing jam !! I think this kind of jam was what Phil was referring to when he said that it wasn't the same after the hiatus . Personally , I love late 70s and 80s Dead, but these free flowing half hour long jams from their early years are pretty unique.

Yeah, 77 playings are amazing too. Some of the playings from May of that year are among my favorite dead jams of all time.

An upbeat 2 minute long rock song followed by some bitches brew inspired modal jamming. I wish all songs followed this template. I love the dead from this era. I have favorite shows from almost every year but for me this is how the dead were meant to sound. The wall of sound lets you hear every instrument clearly, especially Phil. I prefer them with just Billy on drums and with Keith on acoustic and some electric piano. Bobby sounded better too. In the 80s and 90s a lot of his playing is too atonal and off beat and he would use weird guitar effects.he is more tasteful in the 70s.
