This COMPLETELY is blowing me away. It's blowing me into smithereens. I never knew The Grateful Dead recorded this Motown song- and did a dang amazing rendition of it! I've seen people on TV where they say something like "I need a moment"; well I'm experiencing THAT right now. I absolutely LOVE this on every level. Thank you times a million for posting this!

Went to a couple of these shows. One night I got caught by Mr. Bill trying to smuggle in a tape recorder. There actually was a bomb threat called in that night and we all had to get out. He nailed me on the way back in. Had to go to his office to get it at the end of the show. He asked me " How would you like to meet the Grateful Dead?" He told me to bring some luggage from the office to the stage and there was Jerry and Bobby! Jerry said " You should pay the man." I refused and asked for 2 tickets for the next night. Graham said, not possible. I would not have traded another night for the experience. I'll always have it.

So many great comments have come before mine that I hardly feel I can add much, but as it was with Pete Stevens this was one of the very first Dead songs I ever heard - live, obviously - and I was fully on board after that. A prep school kid, East Coast, totally out of my depth, but when I heard that song I was, like,'man, that's where I want to be swimming.' So grateful that this was posted and I get to re-feel those emotions.

Awsome version, I loved it when Jerry and Bobby played this on the letterman show. When asked by letterman about a trip to Europe and playing in Russia. Letterman asked how long they’d be in Russia? And without missing a beat jerry answered “ until they let us out” F*****n hilarious comeback!!!! Jerry had a great sense of humor and I always loved his laugh.

I wish the whole show was posted, the second set as I recall was pretty darn hot. I went to GD shows from 1970 to 1995 and still think the 1971 shows, (esp this run and the Manhattan Center run), were the most fun fun mainly due to Pigpen being at this peak and Jerry's Gibson guitars blasting away loose as a goose clean notes be damned! (I was Slimjim54 but had to change after messing up my Google account!)

@Shuguproductions: Yeah I knew it then too. I knew the party wouldn't last forever and that these guys could only do this for so long. I had no idea how long tho! But you now have something we never had, unlimited access to live recordings and videos for free. Tape traders back then were notoriously tight fisted about sharing. You are lucky too!
