I discovered this song 2 years after its release. My older brothers used to get on me for borrowing their albums. I loved "Eyes of the World". They would say "You know there's another side"? Half Step got a lot of air pIay on our local NY stations... Stella did not. I heard Stella and fell in love. This song has been my favorite Dead song since. As a New Yorker, who used to plow through the old record stores in the City in the late 70's and 80's and to find out later that Hunter and Garcia wrote it in the Chelsea Hotel was just more meaning that this song was more than special. God, I love this song and Jerry and Hunter. There are no words. There will never be another. "And when you hear that song come crying like the wind...it seems like all this life was just a dream...Stella Blue"

Write the song. Play the song. Sing the song. Produce a movie to record the song. Help everyone to feel a little bit weepy. RIP Jerry Garcia, you will always be loved.

Thank you, Jerry. This melts my being, each listen. Where the hell did time go. And what the hell all went down, during that time. Sad you're gone. The world has been a lot different, without you. I'm grateful for these clips.

That's one svelt looking Fat Man. 1974 was, in my humble opinion, the pinnacle year for the Greatful Dead. This video is pure gold. Thanks for posting.

You could be correct about '74, and Jerry looked pretty damn fit. Blues for Allah came out in '75, then Steal Your Face, then Terrapin in '77, all of them contributing crucial selections to the quality of Grateful Dead concert setlists.... How cool it would be to go back in time and compare!

written, of course, by elvis presley (or ghost written by neil diamond), and performed so masterfully in the waning moments of his '68 "return" special (a major cover for the tet offensive...not that i'm bitter (or was a key orchestrator)).
