After a brief sojourn to other artists and genres I was wrestled back to my roots thanks to a local bar that has booked GD cover bands. It went by a few weeks ago and was reaffirmed and renewed. Reaffirmed by the wonderfully kind and spiritual fans who came out to enjoy community, friendship, and the music. I didn't realize how much I missed the uncomplicated, loving and unassuming nature of the people who miss live music in general and the Grateful Dead in particular. I reconnected with old friends, met new one and discovered 'closet' fans I would have never expected. As always, no shortage of surprises among a generous crowd. It saved me from myself.

Hometown show. Epic. The second set CHANGED me forever. Prob. my most spiritual experience at a GD show. 19 yrs old , mighta missed a lot in the 70s but it was just the right timing for me to be there… such a short time to be there and a long time to be gone🤷🏻-as always.

I've been practicing Silat and Escrima since 1993 and Taiji, Bagua and Xingyi since 2008. I like practicing slow twisting and circling steps with blades. It nourishes my brain and I circulate my chi to stay healthy and massage my internal organs to stay soft and limber. The first thing I would teach someone is how to relax and root and circulate Qi. After relaxing, someone can learn basic Gong Fu! Was at this show and it was HOT beyond belief. Thanks to genghis and chucko for hooking us up with the best seating arrangement ever- 2nd row seats and a private box w/AC. Heated up by the stage and then cooled off in the box. The group switched places when the temp was overwhelming in order not to fry your brain and lose your mind.

I was 20 at the time of this concert. I was into the wrong stuff. It was good music but I wish I would have experienced this. It’s my own Damn fault. I guess growing up musically has changed my taste. I’m late to the party but I’ll stay if it’s okay with all of you guys. I’ve watched several live shows over the past few weeks. I’ve watched several interviews with Garcia and Weir. One w Lesh . I can see why you would fall in love with them. Especially Jerry. He’s so humble and has a beautiful soul. I’ve done drugs but never acid or shrooms. I’m 51 now and my mind probably couldn’t handle the shock 😂. I love reading the posts of experiences you guys had at these shows and all together I feel blessed to have this opportunity. Just don’t run me off for being late.

Welcome aboard. I certainly feel blessed to have seen them a bunch of times, back in the day. Heaps of great tunes, still remain! I caught Dead and Co. and while it isn't the same without Jerry, it's still good, the vibe is there. I'm reminded of the classic western, The Wild Bunch. At the end, with most of the gang gone, old Edmund O'Brien tells Robert Ryan that they're going to start it all up again and asks him to join in. He says, "it ain't like it used to be, but it'll do". 😎👍

The era in which the GD broke into mainstream consciousness with their only chart topping hit. The accompanying Touch Of Grey music video is an absolute classic! I still remember it rotating on MTV like non-stop around this time. Friends who didn't know them wanted get to know them because of that video. Their resulting plunge into GD music was like a bottomless wellspring of good vibes, good times, and moments of spiritual enlightenment as the rest was, as they say, history ;) What a long strange trip it's been !! And we're ALL still on the ride!!

The thing about the Dead is that the shows were all special, but they were a continuous event. Like an old friend, the conversation never ends, they were always there. Seeing other bands was a "special event." Seeing the Dead was just having a good time and seeing the Dead. I saw the Who 2 days after seeing the Dead twice, both times the Who seemed like a bigger deal, but the Dead shows were more fun, by a lot. Hard concept to explain, but I bet many of you get it.

Great documentation of where the band was at during this time. Crazy Phil bombs all over the show. Great “Eyes” and “Terrapin.” Saddening, Mickey looks like he is going to cry while playing, trying not to look at Jerry because you can see his love almost crumbling through the beautiful rhythms. I believe, opening night at the Palladium in NYC, 5th row center, 4 of us trippin on window pane - you get the idea - it was a transcendent, ok religious experience. They were so unbelievably tight. My first show was a few nights following this show at Deer Creek. I went from a 16 year old metal head to a dead head over night. It was a baptism of the soul and forever changed the course of my life. I never made a 3 rivers show unfortunately. My wife went to the 95 show and invited me. Who knows... maybe if I would have said yes we would now have been married 28 years instead of 11.

I felt so vindicated when TOUCH OF GREY became a world-wide hit. All those people who had boo-hoo'd the Dead for the previous 25+ years came to their senses and saw they were hugely talented. Something I discovered in 1970 when Workingmans Dead came out.

Yep! My first show was Cal State Dominguez Hills soccer field in Carson, CA on 5-5-1990, also marked the punching of my LSD v card around 3pm…when the show let out, I was spun. So harrrdd! I had no idea where I was except for a dead show. Vocabulary ceased to exist from my mouth by 6pm, by midnight we ended up in Venice at a live Rocky Horror Picture Show, which I’d never heard of btw…I came close to freaking out when it rains in movie but I was actually feeling rain on my skin! A run out to the lobby revealed I prolly still had maybe 35 doses(blue unicorns) left in my pocket, so it seemed the proper way to calm the rain incident was only to eat two more😂 When back at the crib, my friends and I concluded I’d dropped 12-14hits between 2:30 pm and midnight. Man I got a three hour long intense ‘deja vu’ episode that changed the way I experience this word forever(while drums/space still reverberated in my head from the show earlier that day. Quite a ride for a 16-year old stoner from Palm Desert! Trip stayed full on peak for more than 48 hours. My mom totally knew I was spun af when she insisted I look directly at her and she swore my pupils were the size of quarters! Great times with the good ol’ Grateful Dead! Thanx, Jerry and band for 23more awesome shows before jg bailed in August 95😢 least he died clean off dope and the needle! My idol!

In the end the Dead are the only true masters of music, Simply by understanding they could not nor should not control music but follow it's magic while chasing it in a playful way. By doing so the music was more fulfilling for all involved and it's potential remained limitless. , Perhaps the biggest lesson to humanity was given to us by this band.
