I love this video because it's as close to being at a Grateful Dead show in the 80's as you can get. This is literally what you would see and hear at a show. Just perfect for those of us that like to feel that again and for those too young to have experienced it.........

I was born in 84 and my father born in 44 so you would think he would have been a Dead fan when you look through his albums, reel to reels etc. he lived The Band, Dylan, CSN&Y but then had a disdain for Neil Young which I never understood. The only album I found was Dylan & The Dead live and loved it but had been in the Panic/STS9/ Cheese/UMcGee and mainly The Mars Volta scene so my love was already prevalent. The Mars Volta live show collection is on par with some guys Dead tapes. Those early 2002-2006ish(look for Jon Theodore on drums, Jon Bonham incarnate when I saw him live on 5 tabs) those were some magical freaking shows yall

Holy mother of all things 1985. Last night I was listening to Stanford Frost from ‘85…one of my favorite weekends I had the pleasure of seeing live back in the day. The band was so so crisp, so relaxed, and those hot sunny summer “runs” like Ventura, Irvine, Oakland, Pako Alto, Berkeley Greek, Chula Vista, Long Beach…man those were indeed the golden days. I can almost feel the sun on my skin, and the band 30 feet from me. I JUST discovered this video and I’m stoked. Like man, I can’t do a thing about climate change, fascism, the ‘22 midterm elections next week…but I sure can smile smile smile as I drift back in time some 37 years to a time that feels as vivid as yesterday. 🧡🧡🧡🧡

This was a magical time in gd land. The soundboards from 85 tell the story. Jerry got busted in the park in January, when east coast spring tour rolled around the first news we got was "Jerry wore a red shirt in Hampton!" One of those times where the lyrics mirrored life -Springfield 3/24/85 The Bertha omfg the energy when he got to the "test me why don't you arrest me". Give it a listen if you are not familiar with it. Another great moment was Rochester during the Touch of Grey when they got to "we will get by" and this amazing banner came down with 20 years so far, crowd went ape. Such incredible sound live. Hershey park in the rain with the birdsong>comes a time>deal and a monsterous space- dew etc I could go on and on. My favorite year has always been 85

Kevin - Thank you for posting. I went searching for shows I'd been to, settled in with this gem, and then had a time-warp back-in-time experience when I realized in West L.A. that the toe-headed muppet head bopping in the frame a few yards below you was me. My kids will get a hoot out of this! What a great string of shows through the hot summer. The OK City Zoo Amphitheater was such a treat of a venue. And a sweet show indeed. Thank you!

The sound in the 2nd set is exceptional, even by Grateful Dead standards. 85 has always been a favorite year of mine, I discovered the Dead and began collecting tapes that year. Soundboards from 85 summer tour were the foundation upon which I built my collection, Alpine, Hershey, Merriweather, The Greeks. All top notch shows. They even kicked ass at the Frost that year. 20 years so far... Thanks Kevin.

For the young heads commenting, is this sick shit or WHAT?. For some reason ALL 1985 soundboards sound like this!!! The 85 Summer tour was super special they had this wicked 20 year banner behind them . The first night merriweather my friend Siegs and I were about 20th row and Thry were having trouble with the sound one channel was out in Jack A Row and then it sounded sooo rich and full, like this!! Amazing sound the drums so crisp, Jerry is rumbling!

Even the "ahh shit!" moments when the tall guy comes and blocks that perfect view you had..lol. 1985 was an interesting year. Some really kick ass shows mixed in with some duds. I wonder if the zoo exhibits were open that evening. Tripping while looking at the animals would be an experience!

According to the re view in Deadbase, the otherworldly noises in "Space" woke the animals and they began 'singing' along with the band!

The first half of Bertha, I couldn't hear Phil properly. Phil and Jerry both gotta be playing good and loud for me to listen. Thanks for posting.

I was there. I swear to whatever that there were 3 cigar shaped UFOs hovering overhead...briefly, during the first set. I turned to my friend, and pointed to the enigmatic trio. He looked, then squinted , and his eyes lit up and he looked back at me...and all we could do was laugh.

How appropriate....The Zoo....A concert at the Zoo. The promoters had to find somewhere for all the animals to enjoy the music. Must have worked since the dead played there at least 2-3 times. Heard it was a pretty sick place to see a show. Maybe not Red Rocks quality, or Hornings Hideout quality, but definitely a good time.
