Unbroken Chain! Listening for the secret, searching for the sound! RIP Phil!

Mars Hotel came out the same day Bad Company did. KSAN played B.C. Over and over. Did I ever complain, I’d just got the album that day and wanted the world to hear the magic of OUR DEAD. Ship of Fools..beautiful. U.S. Blues just Rocked The Oakland Coliseum and doubled their East Bay fan base.

Unbelievable as it seems but From Mars Hotel is the only studio album I have never owned and I have yet to hear it in its entirety and I have been collecting GD since the mid 70s.I have tried to listen to it on Spotify but I always get interrupted.Now I am just about to order the 50th anniversary edition finally.On the strength of what I am hearing here the door is bolted and the phone is off.Beer,a left handed cigarette and nice big chair and my stereo will be order of the day.

Thanks guys, especially to Jer and Keith. Bob,we’ll just let Moneylive on to be the aberration it isn’t., yet is. Nobody did it like you guys; considering it was 1974 and I was just a gawky 15 year old just a few years away from my first of 114 shows. And I get to do it all over again with Phish. Though very different, they carry the torch. The big question is, Who’s Next?
@charlesandrews23607 ай бұрын
I was 15 in 74 also. I had seen them a couple of times. They where are my first love and will always hold a special place in my heart. I never got into fish I was massive Neil Young and Crazy Horse fan by that time. Now that's all over but we now have King Gizzard . Best band on the planet and there seems to be a lot of crossover between Grateful Dead fans and King gizzard fans young and old alike

No commercials for KZbin subscriptions. 🤷🏻♀️
@seanwallace64048 ай бұрын
So that KZbin can profit off the work of others? Hell no! I think it’s a shame that GD Corp …. Is so concerned with revenue that they can’t just let the music play. The interruptions are disrespectful to the music and the listener. Fuck KZbin and fuck GD merchandising.
@jaymatlock31827 ай бұрын
@seanwallace6404 so you buy it if you want no commercials. Or you pay KZbin monthly to have no commercials. It's pretty simple.

I remember having a tape in the late ‘70’’s that we called MarsHotel Out Takes. It had instrumental versions of the songs plus some with vocals. Only problem was it was a multi-generational copy with a thick layer of hisssss in the mix. It is so nice to hear this version. Plus I can’t speak enough about how fantastic a drummer Billy is No diss to Mickey, but the Billy years gave the band a different sound, that I loved. Even the Built to Last sessions on here are great to watch/ listen to, when Billy is laying down his tracks. Lastly the China Doll on here is so sweet. Man I love this band.

Fuck mickey. Bill was the original and best.
@jameswilliam9048 ай бұрын
Billy is a master and so is micky. They have they're own unique take and touch to the drums. By the simple complexity of having the two drums that adds more depth especially when the band is hitting a peak and the energy is building nothing compares to them to together on the drums! But just the same just having Billy on drums gently laying down a beautiful layer to build upon

While it's still not a concert - and therefore not their comfort zone - it's kinda giving those vibes thanks to the outtakes, feels more natural. The album versions of the songs are both too sterile and too overmixed and edited. You end up with none of the boys' character.
