I forgot to mention this in the video, but another build idea is using the Topshelf Tonic trinket and spamming poison darts. This would be most effective against enemies with multiple actions per turn since each poison dart is equal to 24 damage at that point.

it's funny and tragic that that speed argument was almost exactly what happened to me the first time I entered the darkest dungeon, but I didn't get a deathblow. being thrown at death's door in the first round of the first fight of the first time doing it despite having 64 dodge sent my irl stress up straight to 100.

Glad you talked about the "speed = more vulnerable" argument. It's a sunk cost fallacy. More speed makes you more effective in battle. Being more effective in battle means it's less likely you'll be put in a scenario where speed causes you to lose your character. I suppose ideally you'd want your healer to still go before your other heroes to prevent bleeds/blights to kill your heroes, but it's still a positive for a hero to have high speed.

Its really nice to see all of the anti-grave robber arguments get a legitimate response, beacause I am one of the people that think she is kinda decent-ish/bad. When friends or people on a native DD group ask me about Grave Robber I just say „Well, just try to throw daggers at stuff, cuz that is just the safest option. You can try to lunge and shadow fade if you feel confident enough”. Maybe I should look on Grave Robber more like a character that just needs big assistance from her teammates, instead of just some additional damage for your group. Also, I really like that there is no clear worst character in the game right now. I really wish we all could get more chances to discuss characters, their usefullness, strong sides and weaknesess like that. And this video is this kinda thing. I learned a lot here, and i *might* use GR more now. Just, thank you for that video shuffle

I think the best argument against her is that she doesn't put anyone out of a job. You can use her, a highwayman, or a bounty hunter as a dedicated damage dealer/rogue and still be very successful. However I feel that if you took that approach to every class, you'd just be using 3 copies of the same 4 classes to beat the game which doesn't sound very cash money.

Best fun can be just picking a character and skills you want to use for a chosen quest and building the other 3 teammates around that. It can sometimes take an extra few minutes to start the quest, but it's worth the mental challenge alone, trying to think many possibilities ahead.

Definitely a fan of Grave Robber, and agree that Shadow Fade is one of her best skills, especially for round 1. On Stygian/Bloodmoon you can't always rely on one hitting a back liner anyway, so having one turn for the rest of the team to help setup (de-stealth, shuffle from rank 4, team boosts, etc ) for the double damage pretty much guarantees she'll 1 hit something with Lunge as one of the opening moves of round 2. Personally love Vestal/Hwyman/GR/MAA comps. MAA brings great group wide camping dodge/damage/crit buffs, and Command from him on round 1 will even further boost her Accuracy and Crit for the round 2 opener, and after that he can just Guard her while boosting her damage by another 25%! AND MAA can dance with her and Hwyman using his stun, and is shuffle proof in general.

Grave Robber being seen as super easy to kill is likely because of some psychology when you think of a rogue archetype which are traditionally evasive and capable of hitting hard but also get smacked down when their agility fails them. So you have a character that is able to dance all over the positions and has high dodge you naturally assume this means she's easily felled when she does take a hit. Why does this not apply to the Highwayman? By all means, it should since he's also very much a roguish archetype and while I could spend paragraphs waxing poetics in an attempt to find a reasoning all conclusions I've formulated have lead to one universal answer: Highwayman has a huge cock. That's all there is to it.

I'm one of those people who isn't too keen on Shadow Fade, mostly for two reasons: - I think the "With the Grave Robber being stealthed, other party members get targeted more" argument has a point. This is particularly critical for enemies which target the back rows exclusively (tbh only the Goupers in the Cove come to mind); I kind of feel that the AI also sometimes has a general preference for targeting either front or back, which would play into this, but this might be my imagination. However, a more common issue is that stress gets distributed more among 3 people instead of 4. - I feel that forgoing 'regular' damage in favor of damage spikes every two rounds often isn't worth it, because the best thing about a quick character is that you can kill enemies before they have a chance to act. And if killing slowly is no issue, Poison Darts achieve similar results. Of course without Shadow Fade running Lunge becomes rather fiddly, and without Lunge the Grave Robber dps isn't as enticing. Which is why I personally always prefer to bring a Shieldbreaker instead. But if one can appreciate the Fade/Lunge combination and work with its quirks, it's quite a cool combo.

This is exactly what I'm running into. I tried GR out last night with some of these tactics, and while I think she's incredibly cool-looking and I believe that she can be used well, she seems dreadfully inefficient compared to having a character who can just deal and take reliable damage in her place. Shadow fade/lunge is certainly powerful but I'm a big believer in burning down or stunning as many enemies as possible in turn 1. I feel like she's doing a LOT of work to do something good but not jaw dropping while also leaving the rest of my party exposed to her share of the stress/damage. 🤷‍♂️

Stumbled on your Darkest Dungeon content a few months ago and I've been excited for this. You did not disappoint in discussing one of the most underrated characters in the game. Thank you for driving home the importance of Lunge and shadow fade. People always sleep on that +40% dmg and +12% CRT. It even has above average accuracy, so little chance of missing which people often forget. Stoked for whatever you decide on next. Shieldbreaker is one of my favorites and she's more complex than most of the others. I always have a hard time deciding which skills to use with her.

Did you know back in the day Toxin trickery used to be broken. It used to give her like 20 dodge, was stackable up to 3 turns so like 60 dodge. So with dodge trinkets, she could get her dodge chance so high back in the day that she was almost untouchable. if u had GR in rank 2 doing this with antiquarian in rank 4 spamming protect me on her (which gave GR even more dodge), effectively 2 members of your party couldn't be hit by single target attacks. So many enemy turns would be wasted, it massively mitigated stress and hp damage to the whole party in a sense. I dont remember exactly but pretty sure I remember getting her dodge over 140. It was so busted that they nerfed toxin trickery to be borderline useless now. Shadow fade used to give more dodge to like 30 or something. She was the dodge tank and it broke the game. However her damage was pitiful back then. The new Graverobber in DD 2 is playing a lot more like the original GR and I actually like it, the dodge tank style. I do hope they buff her damage in DD 2 but I hope they dont ruin her dodge tank ability again. its a fun playstyle.

Hey Shuffle! Brillant guide ont this complicated character, agree with your analysis and suggestions on nearly everything. I have two restrictions: I think that Pick to the Face is vastly superior to Poison Dart, and that you’re exagerating the importance of Shadowfade (“please press Shadowfade”, “Shadowfade is her best button”). I absolutely agree it needs to be slotted, and you’re 100% right in your analysis of it as an excellent defensive skill, but ultimately, Lunge is her best button ^^ Your first team does a phenomenal job at accomodating the GR lunging and shadowfading between ranks 2 and 4. But just because it is possible doesn’t mean we have to on most turns, which is kinda what you’re suggesting, at least that’s how I undersood it. But first, I think it’s way better to start on rank 4. Better to get rid of rank 3 as soon as possible, and Lunge does not need to be buffed to cause considerable damage or even-one shot backliners. And while Shadowfading on the first turn does allow you to cast Bile before Lunging, you can accomplish the same by not shotting yourself in the foot by having the GR equip an item with +2 speed. The Abo even has a camping skill that buffs his speed, so that’s absolutely perfect. Anyways, Shadofawing and Blighting on the first turn just leaves you way too vulnerable, you’re not stunning and killing enough on this first turn. And secondly, I think that once she is on rank 2, she’s better of staying there, except if she’s in danger. Pick to the Face is actually better than Lunge against anything that has even mid-tier protection, which is the case of many frontliners. And so, while Lunge might well be the very best move in the game against rank 3, it ends up not being worth wasting a turn to Shadowfade against an armoured frontliner. So your party made me think and I wanted to add more stunning and blighting power through a Plague Doctor, something that can really invalidate the enemy while we lunge and shadowfade. which requires us to place a healer on rank 1. And the result is great actually, I really enjoy running the following “mix Dot-raw damage party” in the Weald, Warrens and Cove : PD : Noxious Blast, Blinding Gas, Battlefield Medicine, Disorienting Blast; 1) Blasphemous Vial, 2) preferably Ancestor’s Map, or Witch’s Vial or Aria Box or Hag’s Laddle or Ashen Distillation GR : Lunge, Shadow Fade, Pick to the Face, Throw Dagger; 1) Sharpened Letter Opener, 2) (which is the build that I use in every party btw, I find her very “one-size-fits-all”) Abo : 1) Broken Key 2) Padlock of Transference (Alternatively he could equip Fuseman’s Matchstick or even Osmond Chains in the Cove where he’s less in need of additional blight chance, but then again, stun chance Is universally great) Flag: Punish, Rain of Sorrows, Reclaim, Redeem; 1) Flesh’s Heart, 2) Bleed Amulet In other parties, having only a flag as way to heal other characters (except Battlefield Medicine that can potentially pick some one up from Death’s Door, but that’s not much of a healing skill) would be too little, but fortunately Shadow Fade, Absolution and all our stunning power complete our defensive/preventive arsenal. Otherwise, it plays quite similarly to your Lunge team. One thing it excels at is destroying rank 3 as soon as possible, with Beast’s Bile, Rain of Sorrows and Lunge. And then Disorienting Blast can pull rank 4 forwards and/or clear corpses (but there’s also a strong chance there won’t be any corpse, given the DoT and the Crit chance of Lunge). There is one significant weakness to this team, and that is camping, as there is no way to prevent night ambushes. As for your dancing party, I definitely agree with you that it’s too much trouble for what it’s worth but it’s kinda your fault: Duelist’s Advance has too low damage to justify spamming it every turn, and the fact that you have to deal with backwards moves considerably hampers your capacity to use Lunge consistently. However, there are dancing teams that can accommodate the GR and are more efficient and much easier to play - and that’s a party I read about on Reddit: Grave Robber/Vestal/Crusader/Man-at-arms It’s extremely simple, really, and all about Rampart, Holy Lance and Lunge. The Grave Robber will alays play before the Crusader, which means he can use Holy Lance. At the beginning of round 2, the GR is in position 3 and the dancing can continue as on turn 1. What’s great is that the difference in speed between the characters is such that there is no need to dabble into speed quirks. I also made a variant of this team for bosses that are shuffle-heavy, have high protection and are resistant to stunning. You just replace the Maa with a Shieldbreaker. That’s the very team with wich I beat the Countesse and the Shuffling Horror. Spamming Lunge, Pierce and Holy Lance is quite the raw damage extravaganza.

I can get down with the idea that lunge is best button, but I think shadow fade is too critical to the kit. It more than doubles her damage because of the crit buff, and on bloodmoon with higher hp totals the extra damage matters a bit. I'm surprised you think the Abom team needs more stun control since it already has 3 other characters that stun and 1 with a double stun. It has bile but the team is mostly focused on burst damage and stun control. You can make it work with blight most definitely, I just think PD is harder to use around GR because unless you rock a frontline healer people are about to be shoved out of order, so Flag is a good choice. I like the idea of that dancing team since it's mega beefy with 2 healers. I just worry about GRs damage because double lunge still mathematically comes out to be less damage than shadowfade/lunge, especially if you can apply blight too. Having a 35-40% chance to crit for 70+ damage is too enjoyable haha. Thanks for the comment, as always.

@@ShuffleFM The Vestal, the Abo and the Hellion all have something else to do than stunnig. On turn 1 the Hellion's priority is Iron Swan and even later I'm no huge fan of Barbaric Yawp: sucks against size 2 enemies, low stun chance and the Hellion lacks class-specific stun trinkets (which kinda forces us to use Dazzling Charm? meh). Realistically, the Vestal will often have to clean what's left after Iron Swan and she can only consistently stun stun-weak enemies anyway. The Abo will sometimes blight for the GR - as you described yourself, although I suspect that Shadow fade + Blight is overkill on the vast majority of mobs even on Stygian. And it's not that I think that additional control is "needed" so much that I wanted to with a PD:) The PD extends the action provided by the Abo and the Flag not only is a frontline healer but synergises well with the PD. I'm not saying it's better, but it's another way to accomodate a GR moving between ranks 2 and 4 that maybe you hadn't thought about. "double lunge still mathematically comes out to be less damage than shadowfade/lunge, especially if you can apply blight too. Having a 35-40% chance to crit for 70+ damage is too enjoyable haha." Again, is that not overkill ? ^^
@ShuffleFM
@ShuffleFM 3 жыл бұрын
@@arthursimsa9005 If you're confident that Lunge will get the turn 1 kill then you don't need to spend the first Abom turn blighting. This setup also handles minibosses very well because of that overkill potential. Yawp may suck against 2 size enemies but blinding gas is also an average stun if the enemy party isn't full. Some large enemies can also go to the back like Shambler. There are also some enemy rolls where the large enemy is in the middle. Hellion is fine with just dazzling charm because yawp has higher than normal stun chance. The team I listed is also flexible because it can shadowfade into throw dagger to snipe rank 4 if you want Hellion/Abom to stun spam turn 1. There are other times where you are forced into stunning turn 1 with Hellion anyway because rank 4 is in stealth. The issue with the PD/Flag team is that it relies on bleed, blight, and stun all sticking to targets. Most enemies have 1 strong resist to 1 of those effects, while most backline enemies do not carry a viable level of prot to stop a lunge gank. Even if it's good at killing rank 3, bile/lunge is still better at killing that same target. I hadn't considered Flag as the frontline healer before, but I don't like the interactions of PD and GR for lunge. I've tried it in other teams, however maybe Flag was the missing piece so I'll give it a go.
@arthursimsa9005
@arthursimsa9005 3 жыл бұрын
@@ShuffleFM Fair enough, you make some valid points. "The issue with the PD/Flag team is that it relies on bleed, blight, and stun all sticking to targets." In the Wealds and Warrens that's quite achievable; it's certainly not unreasonable. Witht the trinkets I mentioned in OP, Flag has 160% chance to Bleed, PD with Hag's Laddle or Ashen Distillation has 160% to stun and 190% or 185% to Blight (!) and, Abo has 185% to stun (!) and 160% to Blight. In this light, it would be better to make the PD a dedicated Blighter and pick Plague Grenade instead of Noxious Blast. First turn would be Plague Grenade (any speed quirk would help her play before the GR), Manacles and Lunge. If the GR starts by shadowfading on turn 1 as you planned, then the PD can stun then blight. That would work better than what I described earlier. Obvious adjustments should be made when faced with a dangerous rank 4 Virago or Skiver. I must say that it's a bit unfortunate that the stun and blight chances of the PD and the Abo are not distributed the other way around though, it would probably serve us better. "I don't like the interactions of PD and GR for lunge." Really, what do you mean exactly? I think it's fantastic, perhaps even more so when Shadow Fading on turn 1. "If you're confident that Lunge will get the turn 1 kill then you don't need to spend the first Abom turn blighting" You can never be confident about that, low rolls are always going to happen. What you can be more confident about is a 185% chance Manacles (still 5% to miss against a Ghoul, a Large Corpse Eater...). "maybe Flag was the missing piece so I'll give it a go." Cool! :) Keep me informed if you do!

She was one of my faves right away, as well. And as much as shadow fade is a great turn 1 move, it’s often so tempting for me to whack a back row stress dealer or enemy buffer right off the bat. I just toss a dagger in their heart and eliminate them before they even get a chance to ruin my day. Occasionally that backfires with a miss, but hey, that’s Darkest Dungeon for you. More often than not, it pays off. It depends on the enemies drawn. Surely, the Fade is more wise in certain instances. She’s valuable in so many scenarios. I often carry her in boss battles because of this. And hey, gotta love that Snuff Box, too.

@@ShuffleFM I think the reason why some low HP characters are getting looked down upon and others don't might be because there is simply no other less-fragile alternative. What I mean by this... let's take Houndmaster, for example. He is one of the only dedicated stress-healers who feel most comfortable at the back ranks. The other one? Jester. Even more fragile than said Houndmaster. What about Antiquarian? She has the lowest HP, why doesn't she get backlashed for it? Well, obviously, because that is the core of her character - being extremely weak. She is that escort mission guy which brings home the bacon and there is simply no one else like her ( though she has got some exceptional skills, even one that helps her survive better, "Protect Me!" ). Plague Doctor? She has 38 health, the biggest number for the low-HP-characters category and the only character able to cure DoTs, she is irreplaceable in her blights and bleeds curing duty. Occultist?... um... ah... Actually, I have no idea why would bring him in your roster anyways, so I can't really think of a reason why wouldn't he get sconced for having low HP, since you can simply replace him with a MUCH, MUUUCH better character - Vestal with 44 HP ( He is just a "0 CRIT Bleed Heal " meme for me )... but what about Graverobber? Well... If you want tougher damage dancers then you can have Highwayman and Shieldbreaker. Just tougher damage dealers? Bounty Hunter, Abomination, Hellion. Tougher backline damage dealers? Arbalest, Musketeer... I hope you have got the point. Just my theory though...

@@saltysalt4537 Even then the camping is not the entire time, but you can still use it to target hard fights so that is worth something. As for the other points, blocking is limited to twice a battle and the threat from the vast majority of moves in the game comes from secondary effects that can't be blocked. Blocking a tree branch is great, but blocking arterial pinch is meaningless as an example. Don't get me wrong of course, it's good, but it doesn't turn the shieldbreaker into a defensive juggernaut. Being able to stealth is a much better defensive mechanic since the only threat at that point are cleaves which also threaten the SB as well so it's a moot point. As far as comparisons, Antiquarian isn't a dedicated combat class so she's exempt from discussion imo. I'd argue all characters do have alternatives in this game outside of specific special abilities like Battle Ballad and Vestal group heal. Other than that everyone is just about replaceable, and each roll has a few different choices for it. Musk is an arbalest reskin, so GRs only real backline competition is arbalest and houndmaster. GR can put out a ton of damage from a high speed stat compared to those 2 with better defensive mechanics and her mobility gives her her own niche comparatively. Her biggest competition is highwayman, and that guy can make any other damage option obsolete lol. I get your point, and thanks for taking the time to write so much out.

Honestly, I don't think much of speed, Jester got you covered on that front, so for me speed doesn't really have much of an impact, so I would actually prefer slower, but tankier options, but I don't mean GR is the worst in any way though. Without Jester, she is the best bet at dealing with high priority targets by simply putting her in the back and sniping someone with a well-placed "Lunge", even without "Shadow Fade", I am just too addicted to "Battle Ballad" to see it. @@ShuffleFM And thank you for taking your time to read and answer my gibberish on a 4 months old video! A little problem you didn't talk about is early game. In late game, where you cleared DD(especially on highest difficulty where you are time-restricted) and you stockpiled on trinkets and upgraded armor/weapon/skills. You're free to level characters easily with trinkets you want and make all characters work in their 100% efficiency comps. The early game is the hardest and most rng-prone part of the game. In early game GR is one of the weakest characters, because of her low stats(hp/dmg), unreliable dodge(dice roll) and sure she has good speed, but on highest difficulty with enemies having +20%hp, you can't really burst them down and Shadow Fade only protects you from one turn of dmg and then you have to use other move, which with her speed makes it almost 100% of the time, all enemies go after your GR, this is where bad RNG can happen and it's never good idea to take risks. Now GR isn't the only one of high-risk characters, because of being low-hp dodge-based, but Hound is better geared to dealing with it, with self-heal + protect + stun and Jester is the best stress-healer in the game, so sometimes you can't compromise that, but you can compromise GR in your comp, because she is never auto-include best choice. You usually take GR, because you want to take GR, not because she works better than other characters. She is a cool characters and I like her, but she is more of a fun optional choice, for playing around when you are free to build comps and not a strong consistent universal character for clearing the game on highest difficulty and that's what tier-list should be based around.

@ShuffleFM 4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you arrived to challenge this lol. I feel she has some options in the early game. Surgical gloves and blighted satchel are both good for a lunge build starting out, and at level 0 lunge can still reliably kill things, especially if blight is applied. Her level 6 is definitely better than her 0 though I'll agree. At level 0/1 without blight some enemies move out of non-crit range like the pelagic grouper in bloodmoon, so she will need help there. Most enemies at low level have 72.5% or 82.5% accuracy for their attacks. At level 0 with 10 base dodge and another 10 from shadow fade she's doing okay on that dice roll imo. Thankfully you're only level 0 for 1 mission. Her base dodge and shadow fade actually scale faster than enemy accuracy until champion, but you have good trinkets and sometimes quirks by then. This is also why I said she pairs well with Hellion, since Hellion can stun the turn GR is out of stealth. You can also shadow fade and use thrown dagger, leaving her to worry about stress attacks usually instead of direct damage. Starting out she has more hp than Jester and Occultist, the same amount as Shieldbreaker, and she's only 1 and 3 hp behind Houndmaster and Highwayman respectively. The hp scaling isn't a serious issue until higher level when you have more mitigating tools at your disposal. I disagree that Houndmaster is better equipped for it. He has the almost the exact same hp value, he's slower, and his guard is dodge based which forces the same dice rolls that GR deals with. His guard also creates more situations for him to be hit, whereas shadow fade always creates less. His self heal is nice, but it begs the question of how ideal it is that your damage dealer is spending turns healing instead of killing. Blackjack is a great move though. She isn't an auto-include, it's true. She shares a position with dedicated damage dealers like the BH and HWM and neither of those are auto-includes. Very few individual characters are auto-includes unless they possess a fight breaking mechanic like guard against the Prophet, or Arbalest against Swine Prince. You've raised many good points against her but I feel you are disregarding her strengths. She is the most movement resistant character in the game and can help fix your teammates by going first while using moves that still generate tempo. She has versatile damage with melee, range, and armor piercing while having abilities that synergize with bleed, blight, and mark. Her scouting tools are also better than her counterparts. Also, shovels D: I'd say try the hellion/gr/abomination shell that I suggested if you haven't. You obviously don't have to agree with me, but I've had a great anecdotal experience with her. In my darkness runs she is often the best performing hero in the team which reinforced my opinion even more.

@@4e34e545e345w3 Hello. Well i feel i lost more Beastmasters and Bountyhunters then Graverobbers, they demand a quick heal though. Beastmaster partly relies on bleeding and has no armor pierce. It is the quickness and high damage and accuracy that eventualy lowers the risks, using Graverobbers. In a "the best defense is offense" way. Maybe i am just biased. I have to agree that the Highwayman has a better camping buff.

@@ShuffleFM I don't disregard her strengths, I simply didn't counter-argue there, because I agree with your points on that subject. Also when I made the point about Houndmaster's protect I didn't mean it in the sense of him getting more dodge, because as you said it's same dice roll mechanic, what I mean is, protect from him bring utility to the team, where you can guard someone else on your pt who could take unlucky rng string, where as GR can only watch them die :) Self-heal of Hound isn't ideal and ofc you shouldn't strive to use it, but it's there as last resort option, which is better, than not having it. She definitely has some options early game as do everyone and she can be your best no light character if you build your team around her. You can build teams around almost every character and have same/better/worse results, each of those, depending on who you decide to build around. She is the only hero who gets extra damage from blight, that's true, but I don't think you're gonna disagree with me if I say her scaling with marks is the worst in the game(of the heroes that scale with mark), hence you never should run her in such comps. Her synergy with bleed is also of similar caliber, it seems nice that it's there, but in the end, you'd rather hit with hero with another bleed, rather than waste a turn on lowering res. Once again I'm not saying she isn't working or that she is bad, I'm simply stating, as I did under tier list videos, that she was placed too high, by one tier in my opinion, due to her drawbacks. The fact that she requires specific comps, and loses on utility to characters like HM, MaA etc. or raw dmg to HWM, or even HM, BH, Arbalest in said MARK TEAM, should weigh more in terms of tier-lists. She is decent, but she's in that weird spot, where she brings some of the out of combat utility, while being generally combat oriented character, without specific niche, which leads to situations where you almost always can build a teamcomp that is better geared towards said mission without including GR.

Alright, my strange comp I've had some fun with; 1 Crusader, 2 HM, 3 GR, 4 GR. Have the faster GR in spot 4, and put something to slow down the one in slot 3. Rather than using shadowfade to setup big lunges, just have the GR's mix in lunges or daggers so they can do more lunges in general. Ideally the sequence is the back one lunges first, then the next one lunges again, and the HM advances, which sets up the first GR to lunge again, which allows for the second one for another lunge. I have the HM use Duelist Advance to help push back one of the GR's usually, as well as it just being a great move, but I also give him Point Blank in the event he ends up in rank 1. The Crusader will run Battle Heal or Inspiring Cry (I'll swap it during the dungeon depending on what I need), the stun, the Smite and I've had good success with Holy Avenger to help him get back into slot 2 if I wanted to keep tempo with the rest of this dancing team.

To sum it up GR,CRU lunge forward around each other for max dps output and occasionally the MAA joins the dance with he's forward moving ram while in the stun department u got both the PD&MAA both with theyr dedicated stunner trinkets and also potentially the CRU if u really feel like it while the PD casually does dots(which also boosting lunge DPS) and should u be willing to divide the stunning duties to have the PD only handle the back and let MAA&CRU handle the front then u can also reliably bank on vapors to hammock up both the GR&CRU vs obscene HP&Prot targets... u also got decent AoE coverage&dps for stelthed enemys with flashing daggers+zealos accusation and plague grenade... while as support skills we got the cure poison&bleed from PD along with crusader inspiring cry to handle the crew morale(not much handling needed since the opposing crew's back lines will be stunned locked by the PD) and out of battle we have excellent scouting&trap disarm while both GR&PD can be on disease removal duty... leaving use with the MAA that during camping does what hes best (re)known for....

That is a pretty good defence for Graverobber and a good quality video overall. Keep it up! :D But personally, I still prefer Highwayman. Has better HP, better base damage, the same DODGE, lower SPD, which, to me, comes as a plus since I use Jester anyway, so my team's speed is through the roof and someone's lower speed just basically means better turn control for me ( though +SPD bonus from CRITs can screw turn order a bit, so beware him going infront of the healer ), his riposte is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and is probably one of the main reasons I can't replace him with anyone else. The mere prospect of him killing an enemy with a riposte, denying any effect the attack could have had ( stress, bleed, blight, debuff, stun, ETC. ) or killing the entire enemy team with his riposte is simply godly and happens much more frequently than you would expect. He is very good at dealing with enemies in any position, exceptionaly the first one ( point-blank shot, duh ). The only thing that really stops him is high PROT with bleed resist. It isn't that much of problem, but judging by the fact how much slower it feels to deal with those enemies and the posibility of having to face a Ghoul in the Ruins ( where you don't normally bring his bleed skill ), where being slow at dealing with him can result in "The Worries" ( Jesus Christ I hate it, 5% chance seems like 50%, holy shesh ) really makes you regret the fact that he has no PROT ignoring pure damage skills...

Open veins - slow down enemies, grapeshot - increase crit chance on enemy, tracking shot - destealth enemies. Graverober Shadow fade is turn skip that doesn't offer anything to team. Other setup up heroes (besides Leper's revenge) with their marks offer debuffs that come with marks where everyone can take advantage and mark itself, which other heroes who deal more dmg vs mark can take advantage. And when Shadow fade is only way to make her a decent hero - that's a problem. She can't stun, she can't self heal, she doesn't have team support skills, her damage is awful with out Shadow fade and Lunge that require setup.

tbh not a big fan of shadow fade round 1 because it has a good chance of leaving an enemy alive if your other party members miss their stuns/crits/etc. I'm thinking 4 cove lepers here, letting all four get an action round 1 is a huge risk. I find in a lot of encounters if you can kill at least one enemy before they get to act it significantly increases chance of survival. R1 Lunge is accurate and can one-tap squishies on a crit, and depending on that you can follow up with another heavy hit to finish them off or stun the remaining enemies. I'm also a fan of putting a Crusader or another slower character with a shuffle move in rank 2 so I can Lunge two rounds in a row.

About spd and dying from dots: the game even actually balances that by REDUCING YOUR SPD BY 5 when the character is on the death's door. Unless the crit+dot came before GR makes her turn, which is... uncommon to say the least, she's gonna be as slow as Arbalest at base. And even then, if you hate dying by dots... just bring PD. She 90% of the time comes first and has THE move for that situation. It's actually around 4 or 5 really unlucky things which should happen in a row before you can even consider it "bad luck". Like, two enemies go last and then next turn the same enemies go first before you're able to control the situation, and all of them hit same character, and high rolls/crits, and no dodges, and this character goes before healer, and actually catches a dot, and fails dd check... AND EVEN THEN YOU'RE PROBABLY SHOULD BE PREPARED. I wonder if there is any mad lad who completed this game on full light bloodmoon deathless, like, 10 times in a row, something like one dude did with FTL (imsmr 51 wins on hard in a row with different ship layouts). Just to prove you can overcome rng with skill. Not counting torchless, it's actually too rng to be anywhere near consistent (I mean you can literally get Shambler in tutorial hallway battle, there is no way to be prepared for that).

Her low base damage has been best worked around by setting her up with blight and shadow fade, to the point where she does more than double her damage when she does attack. It maths out to more damage per turn while giving her more protection, so this is a case of "exceptions noted". She can certainly be effective with lunge on turn 1 if you wanted to go that way.

In the mid game I like Junia's Head for healing and something like the Book of Sanity to offset the stress. Not the best in the end because you need two trinkets, but you can get the heads fairly early on. Probably before you can get one of the better healing trinkets

@ShuffleFM hey, thanks for all the great content. I Hope I'm Not too late on this discussion, but I'm on my First playthrough right now and I have a Question: It seems to me, that starting grave robber in the Back and lunging First (at least one darkest) ist more effektive, even more so If you have hot to trot and maybe even the trinket wich does Kind of the Same, to hopefully Take Out Position 3 before they can act. This seems to Work pretty well and my grave robber also never really got destroyed in this one Turn Up front. I guess the Question ist: would you stand by Shadow Fading First regardless of the difficulty?

I start crusader on the back row and just holy lance my way up and can heal and stress heal the whole way and once I get there I can stun any of the front guys that are left, cause that's all that will be left. This is much safer and more consistent than relying on iron swan to hit the back row. If you get shuffled and crusader starts at the front, you can stun and stress heal to compensate for not doing damage. I realize this is a 4 year old comment but crusader is better lol

One thing I dislike about the Grave Robber is how 4 of her class trinkets are about blight, when she has only one blight ability. I get that she could be setup and whatnot, but I feel like some of these trinkets could be tweaked to not focus on that

I see your point on that the hp and speed alone aren't that big an issue and don't lead to her getting in those crit+bleed+death door+go first but have you thought about how they could go together? taking into account her low health, doesn't that mean that she needs less damage dealt to her to reach that scenario? hypothetically speaking, if crusader had like 8 speed or something, but still had like his higher hp of like 40~ish, it wouldn't be as big an issue since it would take more dmg to get him in the situation of death door + bleed + go first? with the higher hp + speed, it would take either longer time needed to get in that situation of crit+bleed+death door+go first allowing you more time and oppurtunities to fix it or it leads to more dmg needing to be dealt from the bleeds and crits to chew through his hp enough to get him to that point, meaning there would be less situations that reach the threshold of dmg to do it to em. making it less common and less of an issue? right? now with GR if she comes out of a shadow lunge then gets hit by a crit and a bleed sending her to death door, it is more likely to happen since she has less hp to pull through the bleed and/or crit dmg so she is left on death door more easily and likely than those with higher hp. then her higher speed kicks in and she goes first leading to a death blow. her speed and low hp ALONE might not be that big of an issue but if they come together they can lead to her getting this situation more easily. although the counter point to this is her dodge and self heal and trinket speed manipulation and etc which is valid, this is just my take.

But I thought the appeal of the game was building interesting and/or crazy strong comps while planning several steps ahead. Planning ahead while prepared to improv when RNG throws a curve ball is what leads to crazy and memorable moments, for me. Character's hard fought victories, literal self-unaliving, and everything in between are what make this game so unlike any other. "You missed a spot!" *stabs self to death as friends start to go insane as pigmen start ripping your tank apart*

Hold on. Dumb-ish question. But once you Shadow Fade from say Rank 2 to Rank 4, your next attack doesn't "have" to be Lunge correct? Say you want to throw Poison Darts and set yourself up by blighting a 2 tile enemy (say the big bandit) before dumpstering him with a lunge, is that possible? I have always systematically followed up Shadow Fade with Lunge on her next turn every time...I know you said it somewhere during the video... Trouble is finding a 10 second clip in an hour and a half video lol

so, i had an antiquarian, 2 crusaders and graverobber (all for ruins scouting chance). the initial comp of two frontline crusaders wasn't working so i had her chugging toxin and pick axing fools. had the odd idea that you use graverobber's absurd speed to debuff resistances and lead into bleeds and blight. grave robber and jester were meant to flash and harvest, i guess you could have a crusader heal, maybe an antiquarian drop protect me on a shield breaker in the frontline, using serpent sway to negate damage, adders kiss or impale, and then exposing an enemy to max crit chance for jester on whatever is left. i dunno. just max hit and crit chance on jester and tank and spank for breaker and hope the candle is enough to heal for the team.

I feel like you went on a massive rant about speed when discussing weaknesses and missed some glaring ones. 1 - she isn't a healer, or a stress healer 2 - she isn't a tank, and she doesn't have CC 3 - she is the worst DPS at eliminating an enemy from the backline before they get a turn, despite the fact that she is fast because she wants to fade turn 1 4 - she requires setup to feel strong 5 - The class which she is most comparable to in my opinion is the highwayman, and I have to work pretty hard to find scenarios where I'd rather have a grave robber. 6 - I don't especially love that she stealths, it messes with the stress and damage spread, because she's not getting targeted, other people are getting targeted more. She is a flavor character I work in for fun, and she is fun, but unfortunately that doesn't make her good. Once I get the ancestors map I usually retire her.

GR might be relatively squishy, but at least she has ways of avoiding getting hit: moving to the back and stealthing. My legend highwayman recently got critted for 30 damage and then got deathblow immediately afterwards before my healer could do anything. (because my team failed all their stuns and kills on their surprise round) Not that it would have been different with a grave robber, but man, highwayman is also super squishy, and he spends a lot more time on rank 2 or 3 then she does, since he can't just vanish into the back like her.

Ehhh I wish it was the 20% healing and next resolve level up she rolled Hippocratic and I'm like... Dude I'm sure this is God tier. Now granted she's only level 2 and those can't roll off (yet) since she only has 2 positive quirks atm.
