Just another possibility, as a long time Funeral Director, I have been involved in several exhumations where a family has had a decedents remains moved to a new cemetery, several cases, were from old Homesite burials to a municipal or Church cemetery, and even old abandoned church cemeteries to the "newer" church cemetery. Hope that was the case in this situation.
@thomasmint17619 ай бұрын
Very interesting. Two questions: 1. Could this have been an exhumation? Usually that would have a full grave-length opening. But perhaps they only partially opened because of the tree overgrowing the site, and “slid” the coffin out through the partial opening? 2. Why not inquire with the project/engineering company doing the work why they left that section intact? Or, does that defeat the intrigue of your exploration?
@AdventuresIntoHistory9 ай бұрын
1. No. There would have been no coffin to slid out with this old a grave. 2. A little bit of research confirmed this was the John Wright Cemetery about 5 minutes after I left and got back into good cellphone service, so no need to.

You mentioned the possibility of a flower (flour?) pit a couple of times and that is a term that I have not heard before? I am glad that we now know that it was a family cemetery. Have you been able to find out if that grave was dug up by unscrupulous people or could it be that the body was moved for some purpose? Considering timber harvesting can only be done after several decades, are Timber Companies going off historical topographical maps as to what areas can be harvested and which can not? Where I'm from timber is harvested from an area every 80 or 90 years. Obviously the Timber Company knows of the cemetery or it would have been cleared. Robert, I agree with some of your points and disagree with others. It is blatantly obvious that is a grave and not a flower box or well. I do agree that someone has dug up that grave for unknown reasons although you may be correct with robbery. The home site you showed is probably related to that cemetery, but I don't think it was a family cemetery. It is simply too far away from the home site for that. I would bet there were other home sites in that general area. Probably can't see where other homes were due to all the logging that has been done in the past 100 years. The cemetery itself is probably much bigger than can now be determined due to all the logging in the past. I'd bet money on it.

Sad, when people become grave robbers just to obtain artifacts that they can sell to collectors . Being a Native American, way back in the day , we did bury our deceased with what little that person considered precious to them. Mostly though, we would burned these precious items, so they can take them with them in the spirit realm, this included special or favorite clothing, blankets, their eagle fans we would undo them and gift the feathers to the elders, the feathers would live on. If it was a male, who had passed, his medicine bags would be buried with the deceased. Just like the kings in Egypt special prayers, and songs were said to protect these items from being used from individuals who had no right to have them. What ever special prayers and strong medicines the deceased once had, left with him, back to the earth. Disturbing a grave is a violation to the deceased and is against, the laws of humanity and The Creator aka God. All they did was obtained a new job description “ Grave Robbers” May the Lord have mercy on your soul. The Spirit Karma is now after the Grave Robbers, sleep well

What would be the motivation to dig up an old grave? How likely is it that someone would be buried with valuables?
@ginnymiller24489 ай бұрын
I think most people don't realize how quickly a coffin buried directly in the earth without a vault would deteriorate, especially one from so long ago. I have seen other cemetery videos filmed in foreign countries, where it is customary to disinter/move old burials to make room for new ones. After only a handful of decades, there was nothing left of the burial other than metal casket parts, a few pieces of larger bones, and some scraps of clothes and leather shoes. I would like to think that whoever dug up this grave didn't find anything of value, seeing as how the person was buried without a headstone, that makes me think that the family wasn't wealthy and likely didn't bury valuables with the dead.

Have you considered taking a 6" steel rod along. It would be interesting to know if there had been steps down into what you thought was a grave that had been opened or was it a root cellar? Families spent a lot of effort to have a place to store potatoes & other root crops and apples even salt pork. A rod to prob with would have found steps. It seem to big for a grave and a lack of head stones. If they put up a cut stone wall grave markers should also have been present. Just a couple of thoughts I thought I add.

Any moonshine in that part of the county? Looks like a good hiding spot.

It's unfortunate people can be so rotten and low as to dig up graves. It's a reminder that people will do anything. Especially when money could be involved.

I don't see anyone asking the obvious question, maybe I'm missing something. Have you looked into any possibility of you being related to John Wright? You said you found him in Talbot Country. It would be interesting to have an info update, even if just a message in another video.

Disgusting. God knows who you are. Keep up the good work Robert. It’s very important

So sad and disrespectful to these graves that were desecrated.

So, what goes on around there in those places? Logging? Stripping the land bare for farming? Planning on building civilization?
@barbarabell11717 ай бұрын
Hiw did you find this place?
@freyastom38869 ай бұрын
Maybe they are the foundations of a small house chapel with a small crypt under the floor. I could imagine that a wooden roof sat on stone walls that have long been destroyed.
@AdventuresIntoHistory9 ай бұрын
It’s a family cemetery.

If that's the hard Georgia clay the grave robber must have thought they were going to find something valuable. Are their any descendents of the family still in the area?
@AdventuresIntoHistory9 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are still Wright descendants around

Treasure hunters. I understand why people find it shocking and hard to believe, but after having seen or heard so many stories of dug up graves….. it doesn’t surprise me at all. Still terrible

Is privet, the same as privey hedge?
@AdventuresIntoHistory9 ай бұрын
It’s an invasive plant, privet hedge
@joanhawkins85529 ай бұрын
@@AdventuresIntoHistory oh, ok, mom always called it privey hedge because it was planted around the privey/outhouse. Y'all pronounce things a little differently than we do in South Georgia. I had an aunt and uncle that lived it Columbus and it took me a while to understand some of the things they said.
