I think I may have seen you that day, when I was out walking with my wife and our dog, at the footbridge just before the Lochan. As I'm watching this, I'm editing photos from our holiday in Boat of Garten, and had just finished a photo of the small loch an that has the boardwalk before Loch Garten. What a wonderful place to live.

I chose to ride sunny Mallorca in October, you chose Abernethy Forest & bikepacking in Speyside in the boggy and wet. We are not the same 😀 Excellent are per usual, you certainly know how to pick a great route and put together the best bits for us to admire. Many thanks!

Abernethy forest is just great for riding. I’ve been going for years but only recently discovered Loch Mallachie and it’s always nice to drop into the Pine Martin during or after a ride.

Hey Swampy, yes Loch Mallachie can be overshadowed by Loch Garten, but it's a real gem of a place just next door. Of course, the Pine Marten is always great for a stop off refreshment!

Just spent a few days in Aviemore and much of your route brought back great memories. Agree about the muddy trail to Loch Mallochie. Everywhere else was just superb. Thanks for putting in the extra effort and filming it all - I need to keep both hands on the bars!

Thank you - it's a belter of a route and glad it's rekindled some memories. You're right about the effort of filming - what would normally be a 3-hour ride took me 7.5 hours! Was well worth it for the sunset at the end though. 👍

A cracking route & a cracking video! It was like being back on holiday for 11 minutes. Albeit we rode most of that route in the opposite direction in June. Do you think you would have enjoyed it more on a hardtail? What rucksack are you using? I am looking for one about that size and colour.

Hey Hugh - glad you enjoyed. I'm glad I did the route the way I did as it allowed the spectacular sunset shots coming down from the Slugan. The graveller was fine for this trail although the techy climb up to Ryvoan Bothy needed some care - you'll see I was all over the place there! Also, the muddy/rooty single track to Loch Mallachie maybe needed wider tyres, but no real issues there. Most of the trail can be done at pace on a graveller, so the hardtail stayed at home for this one. I've just looked it up - the rucksack is a Rab Aeon LT 18 - Firecracker.

@HughDWallace Ha ha, done it a few times and managed ok but on this occasion as I was filming and on and off the bike to reset the camera etc, so I was dabbin like a goodun!
