GRAVEN Review

Today we're reviewing the boomershooter/first person metroidvania "GRAVEN", releasing out of early access in a few days.

If you wanted to play based on my coverage, I'd recommend holding off 'til the 23rd rather than jumping in today, saves from EA will not carry over to the 1.0 release.

I love this game. It seems to go one of two ways, either people really like it or they hate it. My only gripe is the save system. The inventory system where you don't have access to everything is a bit of a pain but I can appreciate why its there. I am crossing my fingers they support modding and they expand the game. Hopefully those that dislike the game will just move on instead of trying to ruin it for everyone else. From a graphical/atmosphere/tone standpoint there are few other games that have done it as good as this one. It is outstanding in that regard, imo.

Looks interesting. Might be able to dovetail a review with the eventual 1.0 release. No promises but I appreciate the recommendation, always on the lookout for cool/undercovered indies.

I am stuck at the room that is next to the ending area in your video, i found the crystal and the key and put the rod in but something is missing, where is it?

If I recall correctly, once the crystal and rod are in…you can go up the ladder in that same room and pull all three levers. This empowers the rod, and you can grab it and put it in inside of the empty slot near the gate in the same room.

I would consider this game more of an immersive sim than a metroidvania.

I intentionally avoided that label because it doesn’t prioritize multiple solutions or a tangible world in the same way most imm simms do. It certainly brushes up against them (one time I sequence broke by stacking boxes), but moments like that are the exception not the norm

It may appeal to a similar audience because it definitely has the “vibes” of one, if not the mechanics of one, imo
