it is possible to make a robot with human emotion and it will happen in few years from now. Don't forget our emotion are controlled by chemical reaction which is you can produce chemical reaction and build it inside the robot, emotion factory robot :)))

Sad that they age? Of course... But they are fortunate to have the attention shown on this video, many elders, mentalily ill, even children lack attention when they need it most, in many other nations.

I can't really agree with the way this is told. Even in the article itself, it was stated that over 30% of the Japanese population is over 65. To properly care for the elderly in the way that is considered ideal anywhere else, you'd have to remove more than half of the entire nation's population from the work force. The remaining minority would be breaking their backs for the sake of these people. I can't help but think that these people weren't even asked any questions to make this article. "What these elderly touch isn't real. They are soft, but not warm. Do they even know that these animals aren't real? Does it matter?" How can these question be posed without asking the very people that are affected by them? And in reality, I ask, does it matter that they are not real animals? The emotions that these people put into the robots when they pet them are real. Just like when a child hugs a teddy bear. The thing they play with doesn't have to be real for the emotions to be real. And unlike real animals, they don't need to have employees to clean up for them. Employees that are vanishing when the average age of a Japanese person is getting terrifying close to retirement age. Can such questions as "is this right" be asked in a country, when in a few decades, less than 50% of the population is below retirement age? What about when it becomes 25%? 10%? Such a thought might seem impossible outside of Japan, but this is a real concern over there, something that the people have to deal with every day. What would you think if you and your spouse is already middle age, have four retired parents to care for yet you both work all day, no siblings between you, and only have one child that will one day have to care for both of you and their spouse's parents in the future? Maybe even your own parents if they live to be more than a hundred? What choice would you have, when you think, your own child might end up dealing with two generations of retired parents because life expectancy is that long in Japan, yet birth rates are so low that child has no siblings to help them care for you when you and your spouse are unable to work anymore? Saying it's sad that the youth of Japan is dumping their elderly on robots is cynicism of the highest order. What's sad is, Japan is a nation that has more elderly than they have young people. That, it is a nation where its people has no choice but to leave caring for the ones they love to robots, because unlike western nations that just doesn't bother paying for enough elderly care workers, Japan is a nation where the elderly will soon outnumber the rest of the population.

I think it's good that such technology exists at least these homes have movable toys that keep the elderly occupied. It would be difficult for both the elderly and caregivers to manage real animals.

They are always two sides to a story. Thank you for this enlightenment, you have really educated me on reasons why Japan chooses to adopt robots. Wion news post whatever suits them and what they feel the audience wants to hear. They did the same thing on a Nigeria news of blasphemy of recent and turn eye on the killing of a pregnant woman and her 4 kids by a terrorist group called IPOB. They’re always ready to spread news against Islam and turn the eye when it’s other religion like Hinduism. Thou they are good in what they do but that isn’t journalism to me, the solution should be: tell the two sides of the story and leave the audience to decide which is right . Thank you once again.

I work with seniors and sometimes we give them a baby doll or stuffed puppy, they enjoy it and carry them around with love. It helps them with anxiety and brings some of them back to when they had children or pets to care for. We also have pet therapy where dogs, cats and other animals come in from time to time. I think robots would be good, especially if it can do quizzes and interact with the residents. I often utilize KZbin for sing-alongs and quizzes, my clients enjoy it. I also think they would find the robot interesting.

Its not just the old, look at the phenomena called "Hikikomori" - where 1mio young people are locked in their rooms for years (without seeing their family members with whom they share a house .. or sunlight outside). And yet few see the real causes of this deeply sad development. No wonder many countries don't want to subscribe to US ruthless capitalistic model, Japan is 20-30 years ahead, but eventually all the Western world will end up there too - and worse, alone in the Metaverse

Human beings exist and create one's life for the liberation from mystery and all the struggles and sufferings it creates. That purpose of human life is to transcend oneself from the intellectual mystery to the reality and leave the home which is our physical body and the planet earth. Thus, the final farewell to one's body should be the liberation from mystery and entry into the eternal reality.

Japan's robotics are top in any field of research, idk about these robo docs tho? even so I'm quite sure whoever has one such robot knows what is in their possession, besides those's mentally challenged perhaps? People who choose too have those mechanical bots is their own choice and as for the aging population that I'm pretty sure is do with Japan's current stance.. little migration, in need of more housing (maybe need more landmass) and with it's own limited growth for the next generation too replace the next or other.. In my opinion, a computer could never love you back. And even if they ever become smart and creative like we are their love might be different. Thinking of getting a hug from someone you love. Or being with a pet. What sensations do you feel? Pressure? Warmth? A heartbeat? Sure a computer could replicate all that but would it be the same. For now I would prefer a human or animal companion. Perhaps I'm not used to having a metal and circuit friend.

As children, every human looked up to imagination characters as friend and ally companion buddy, to cope with everyday events or advanturing, AI, can be ANYTHING even a wall, that turned into a creature, to a mech, to a furnature, they are no different than a conjured term, called 'MAGICAL creatures,' a summon species *from the beyond* (even from such a place👀), to a child-minded person, seeking comfort of another.
