All of this is just making me more and more convinced that we must absolutely be energy independent inorder to maintain a stable economy. Relying heavily on petroleum for energy when we severely lack petroleum deposits is the same as being at their mercy. Our immediate focus should be to upgrade our energy grid, invest heavily of large and small decentralized renewable energy projects and diversify the sources. We have to really prioritize R&D in Thorium extraction Th- nuclear power since we have considerable domestic deposits of it. Biogenic natural gas shouldn't be neglected either, we can do far better that just using it as cooking fuel if we can get out auto industry to co- operate and introduce more CNG engines compatible with biofuel. Simply banking on currency value still doesn't mean we would have even leverage to protect our economy

Simply trade in cross currency with nation you do import-export rather than in US dollar, so there will not be pressure to keep US dollar forex reserve. This way reduce the importance of USD.

@@kavishwarmokal124 It would help insulate from dollar, but that doesn't mean our economy would be unaffected by anything else. It's not the printed paper currency that are actual geopolitical leverage, it's resources. If all our production and thereby the stability of our economy is too reliant on a resource that we are too deficient in, it means our economy will be at their mercy. Watch Peter Zeihan. The mideast can’t ship oil to southeast asia and Japan/China unless India gets oil too. Also, the bay of Bengal likely has oil. Thorium will solve electricity needs and maybe public rail transport, but not car fuel. A green transition isn’t possible without Russia.

You know what an Economy is about? Demand and Supply. Oil and gas prices are very expensive because the suppliers are controlling their output to cash in more. So what happens when demand falls? Simple, they will control the supply so that prices remain high. As long as a country is reliant on other country's products, you are not in control, they are. It is best for a country to have a trade surplus that way your economy is protected against external factors.

One thing to remember is that inflation isn't just a function of how much money people have, but the amount the populace is willing to pay for a service or good. After the 2 year, pandemic, there is a large pent up demand. From Travel, to goods, people are spending whatever they have. when it comes to gas and food, people don't have much of a choice which the Ukraine war has made worse.

It will probably fall further with further rate hikes of the American federal bank. India is a food sufficient nation though. It exports food to the rest of the world. So the fall in Indian rupee should not harm the rest of the population too hard. The fall of the rupee relative to the USD will only affect US-India trade, and hopefully make Indian exports more competitive.

@@jackzhou4813 And it has always been the case since its inception. The current Bretton Woods financial system is designed to serve the US only. Exporting the US inflation abroad. A reason to why the US is the only country that can have a negative trade deficit for decades and still doesn't collapse, and is the only one who technically can't "default". And if you look closely at how the system is set up, for a country to trade internationally, they first have to exchange their resources against a piece of paper printed by the US and then use that same piece of paper to buy US goods. This concept that foreign countries should always do the first step means the US will always have the leverage/resources first. And let us not talk about loans and interest. Print a few digit on a computer and you get back resources from those countries basically for free + an additional interest. No wonder many countries in the world are indebted to their neck as the IMF, WB, WEF and all sorts of Western financial institutions/organisations/NGOs promoted the debt driven economic growth theory and market, financial and monetary liberalisation since the fall of the USSR.

Most currencies are in the same situation as the US has taken drastic steps by increasing interest rate by .75% and are preparing a further rise of 1%. This makes the US $ strong, the other currencies look weaker against this interest rate rise. India should increase the interest rate by at 0.5%. The consequencies are treatable. Other option is to trade in currencies other than the US $.

Beside if you see what I have seen is that these kind of things mostly happens in populous countries and like in China it is very common during Chinese New year. And as far as farmer bill was concerned, it was a very good way of eliminating the middlemen and would have brought more benefit to farmers and consumers, but Many middlemen brainwashed the farmers and protested against it. Government tried to negotiate and change the rules as per farmers benefit but they just wanted to cancel the Bill. And as any democracy government had to do what the public wants even if it is not benefiting and the government took the bill back.

The only way out of this mess of strong USD causing high import prices but earning peanuts for exports and high inflation among emerging , developing and poor countries leading to stagflation or recession, is to peg back local currencies to GOLD even though it is priced in USD on the commodities market. People around the world will then realise, what is the real worth of each country's GDP, Currency, Debts etc. Right now even currencies are determined by the Forex markets players who determine what a country's currency is worth based on the stranglehold the USA have in creating perceptions of their real currency worth.
