Islam regards men and women as equals, with both created from the same essence. The Prophet Muhammad praised virtuous women and encouraged kindness towards wives. Islam grants women independence, including the right to inherit, choose their husbands, and conduct business. Widows were supported, and mothers were given utmost respect. Women played active roles in society, even in times of war. The Prophet emphasized partnership and kindness in marriage, with men and women expected to support each other. The Sharia recognizes women as spiritual and intellectual equals but assigns different roles based on fair division of labor. While men have authority in the household, they are expected to consult with and respect their wives. In contrast, Western notions of women's liberation are seen as exploitative and degrading in Islam's perspective.
