We need to go back to r² and the three-dimensional physics of the Inverse Square Law is crucial. The spherical 4πr² geometry is key to this concept, grounded in Huygens' Principle from 1670, which states, "Every point on a wave front of light has the potential to create a new spherical 4πr² light wave." Each point can be considered a potential photon ∆E=hf electron interaction exchanging potential photon energy into the kinetic Eₖ=½mv² energy of matter in the form of electrons e². Mr. Turok. What if the entire universe is spinning as one object? We would not be able to tell this is happening, other than by the observation of the angular momentum of all of the objects inside of it. Is this even possible?

We would never know. If it truly was rotating all as one object, or rather all at the exact same speed (I think I just said the same thing two different ways?), we wouldn’t notice the rotation, just as we don’t notice the planet spinning. Since everything on the surface all spins at the exact same rate, we have absolutely no perception whatsoever that this actually happens. This occurs at all scales if the speed of rotation is exactly identical.

@@DOWNLOADZ What exactly do you want to formulate? I’m not sure I understand your question as there doesn’t need to be any formulae to explain rotation as it can be seen and measured. But formulated, I’m not so sure? Unfortunately there is no way other than relative motion to prove or even perceive that motion is occurring at all, therefore if the entire universe itself is rotating, there is nothing for it to rotate relative to, so how could it actually be said to, or be seen that, the universe is indeed rotating when one has nothing to compare it to? I’m sure you would have experienced being in a car, stopped at traffic lights and when the vehicle next to you starts to accelerate, it seems as if it’s actually yourself which is moving backwards, not the other car moving forwards? This happens so long as the other car is taking up our entire field of view. As soon as the car passes or we can see some background, the feeling goes away. But this is just to show that any motion, whether linear or angular, has to be relative to something else, and furthermore, it can just as easily be said that one body is in motion and the other is stationary as the inverse and both are true, just not at the same time. 😊

The cosmos could only be spinning in relation to something else ... Recently I have come to understand that some of the properties of our universe are very very much like those of a black hole and some have even suggested that we may indeed be inside of what we call a black hole ... here is what I propose; we are inside of a black hole that was formed 13.5 billion years ago the event horizon of which is rotating at exactly C which gives our universe the value of C and the mass of the black hole gives the value of the mass of the proton. I propose that all so called black holes are small when viewed from the outside and huge when viewed from the inside and furthermore that all black holes contain a universe and are contained within a universe. Therefore, our black hole universe is contained within another, which then gives something to spin in relation to. I hope you don't think I'm a raving lunatic.

The speed of light C isn’t constant since the measures of time and distance aren’t constant over larger distances. Changing from 60 kilometers an hour to 60 miles an hour increases your speed. Then if you go from 60 miles an hour to 60 miles a minute it increases your speed again. This what is happening in general relativity when less gravity increases the measure of distance and speeds up the rate of time over large distances. It also means that the earth is younger than what they claim.

Does this approach still give a relevant result if quantized space is non-Euclidian? Start by visualizing how the "units" of this space are packed together. Now expand that space to large scales. How does the geometry transform i.e. what happens to the "empty" volumes between spheres that touch? Why can't it be what connects mass and gravity with the former occupying the interstitial empty volume at quantum scales and the latter being the large scale expression of this expanded "empty" volume. If so, this (non-Euclidian) volume should be accounted for somewhere, and seems to me like it could mess up some of these "simple" conclusions quite nicely.

To clarify, my point is that expansion of Euclidian space is possibly due, and in proportion, to the existence of matter. There is also a non-Euclidian expansion that takes place in the fourth dimension of time. So in effect the presence of mass converts non-Euclidian time into Euclidian space and this transformation is observed as gravity.

@Aaron Perelmuter Yes I used "Euclidian" not in the strictest mathematical sense but rather as shorthand for geometric (3 dimensional). So what? I made a hypothesis about the unifying structure of the universe in a KZbin comment FFS. If you had a bit of multi-disciplinary understanding, then you might understand what I am saying even though it is at a 100,000 foot level. How can Euclidian space expand? Two ways. One, add Planck units between cosmic scale objects. Two, increase the metric scale of the minimum (Planck) unit size by way of an expansion in the 4th dimension. The mechanism for this expansion is time, and if the expansion is uniform in 3 spatial dimensions via increase in the unit metric itself, then in fact it is Euclidian even if that 4th dimension is time itself. In other words, time is the term we use to describe the effects in 3 dimensions of the 4th dimensional expansion in the universe's metric. As for mass accounting for the first instance of expansion in the fabric of space, by multiplication of Planck units between cosmic objects, WTF not??? Mass has inertia and requires force to accelerate it besides also being responsible for gravity. Why can't its point-like (or string-like) presence, on the surface of the non-Euclidian emptiness that inhabits the contact points between units of Euclidian Planck space, be the "seed" also for the birthing of new units of Planck space as time radiates this presence outward ... just like it does via gravity??? The math Turok describes in this video is consistent with the idea.

Note that mass creating space works in conjunction with gravity, as gravity keeps mass together and therefore the extra space accumulates away from mass concentrations where gravity is weakest, between cosmic scale objects. As you would expect, if mass was responsible for Euclidian expansion of space by an increase in Planck units.

I've been posting this story for a while, now. Is it possible they're related? Time is fascinating. I worked the subway stations for nearly 10 years. From one end of the city to the other. Every so often I would notice the city would be saying that, "Today just flew by" or "The day was just dragging along." How can an entire city, with no interaction with each other until they used the subway, complain about the same time paradox unless it was effected by it? Maybe a time distorted bubble the earth passes through in its revolution around the sun. Maybe random waves of time distortion hitting the earth? Maybe they're given off by the sun. Maybe they're from outside our Terran system and reach us in intervals. ???? Ti-i-i-ime, is on my side. Yes, it is!

The reason why the universe appears to be flat is because the amount of information that can be encoded within pi is infinitely great. Thus our minds and even our theories must imagine the universe within a means of computation that allows for us to predict quantum uncertainty with as high an accuracy as possible. It’s the lattice, which allows for us to gauge within reasonable proximity where the particles in question are at simply due to the probability of them being elsewhere being low. It has nothing truly to do with the universe at large but more so with our ability to understand and observe it. Even the consciousness must have evolved within the geometrical configuration of the lattice because had it not, there would be no way for us to avoid particle collisions. Thus we would have succumbed to extinction. This is also why the default biological state is reliant on their being two hemispheres, as well as the way we map out our planet.

My idea so I get to name it! What I mean is, no one has claimed it so I'm officially calling, "dibs." Voyager 1 is now in Milky Way's interstellar time or "Mikey's Time." "V-ger's" message has sped up now that it's outside our suns time bubble or, "Terran Time." It will be faster still when "V-ger" sends a message from beyond the Milky Way's time bubble. If space has a event information transmission rate saturation limit then gravity is just a slow down in events between 2 massive objects. You could say relative motion generates information events and acceleration generates information events as well and that would explain relativity. so events per time? The rate remains relative then. If there is an information saturation rate, then this rate would be the core definition of time, events ordered, you could say. But using a defined number of events, with that rate and if we could find out this rate we could work with "true" time, working with eventcounts only, getting rid of relativity, finally having absolutism. But I don´t think absolute spacetime could exist, not in our universe at least, because it would destroy all meaning. Relations are what gives existence meaning. There is no me, without you. But actually, I do believe that time is a mere illusion.

Its many reasons why 1st of all the etymology and definitions behind the two words are contradictory. 2nd playing musical chairs of super position & realitivness to stand where you get the answer you want is a subjective human opinion and not fundamental to the universe. Scientific box is low level you make a claim then when it gets in trouble its moving the science box to hi level to borrow excuses. 3rd and most importantly, predictions that fail and are unfalsifable are not practicing Science. Loved your lecture. I have a Theory that I think might have some validity and explains a few observations. I would appreciate your input. Particularly if you can easily show me how my thinking is muddled and confused. Thanks in advance. My theory is that Time (T) does not actually exist but is a construct of man invented to explain the world around him. We never "measure" time, we only represent its passing with various systems. The "Past" no longer exists in any form and neither does the "Future" as the events have not yet coalesced. There is only The Present Moment which is created by the collapse of the Quantum Waveform which creates all particles, materials, and reality itself. The Rate(R) at which the Waveform collapses creates the effect of Time Dilation as the collapse of the wave is Directionally attracted to the nearest and greatest amount of Entropy. This Directionality of the waveform collapse is what we experience and measure as Gravity. Cheers!

"The Turk" isn't going to take time, from his busy/important schedule, to answer you, me or any KZbin poster, so let me have a random crack at your take (because I, too, have been thinking a lot about time, since my days at UCSD as an undergraduate): Contrary to what you said, about time being a construction of man to "explain the world around him," TIME is one of the only reliable variables in Nature's many phenomena (along with elementary particles). I think about time a lot, because returning to my neighborhood.... IT STILL IS THERE, most things, with the exception of the newer developments (my neighborhood is one of the few that went from good US Navy Housing to run-down neighborhood, after the Navy moved away, to now being re-developed again, due to its proximity to the ocean, a big, beautiful private Catholic university rich very rich people sending their kids to, and it also being in the middle of a few things... UCSD, San Diego State, Downtown San Diego, a stone throw, literally, from Mission and Fashion Valley shopping malls, Old Town the Downtown Trolley, the US Marines Miramar (where the Blue Angels do their yearly shows), Fiesta Island/beaches, just 3-4 miles (straight) away, jumping into a car & entering the highway, you could get to the alpine altitude with tons of snow in the winter, up in Polamar Mt range-Julian/Cuyamaca, 45 minutes away... a few more minutes drive beyond that, there's the absolute hot deserts of Borrego Springs and Palm Springs...) Anyway, most buildings and all roads and alleys ARE THERE, as I experienced in the late 1970s to late 80s, as a junior high and high school kid and then a college kid... But it NO LONGER IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD I had lived in. It's not just my imagination. It really is NOT the same neighborhood. The people are different, the atmosphere is different, the music blaring from street to street is different... The old apartment in which I had spent the first 5 years upon arriving in the US in the lat 1970s... it's still there. I dream about it more than I ever dream of any other place I've lived in, in the last 45 years... But, again, it no longer is the same apartment I knew so well... a place I still could see and feel every square inch in my head, even today... TIME, in other words, HAS MOVED ON, literally. The Sun has moved far from where it was, when modern humans first ancestors arrived on the scene, somewhere in eastern/southern Africa. But locally, for us and for our ancestors, the Earth has gone around the Sun hundreds of thousands of times... perhaps millions (depending where out cut-off date is for our "earliest modern human ancestors"). The Moon has gone around the Earth many more times. The Earth's tectonics have recycled and moved around the earth in the various ways many times over, too. I look at the mirror and I NO LONGER AM the youngster with a full set of long, flowing hair I once had, in junior high school. Again, it's not something I made up to help me "explain" what's going on around me. The CHANGE has taken place... the change keeps marching forth... And, to paraphrase Jim Croce (whose Downtown San Diego Restaurant my roommate of 4 years worked in, while we're renting an apartment, in Uptown/Hillcrest), time is NOT something we could slow down or put in a bottle. Hell, not even the Event Horizon of a Black Hole stops time, although it DOES disrupt its flow, as seen in the photons being directed around it. How do we know, despite what Einstein said, time does not stop for anyone, not even photons? Because even photons, electrons, protons.... all too shall come to pass in some distant future.... they all eventually break down or transit into some thing else... It obviously is ridiculous to think those photons going around the outer parts of a black hole, the event horizon.... would just go around and around and around for ever. They wouldn't. They WILL come to their own end, eventually. Again, time stands for no one and nothing. The life times of animals on earth --- both as individuals and as species ---- truly are just the blinking of fireflies... Our sense of time in the larger Cosmos, therefore, isn't a very good one. But suffice it to say not even the Earth, the Sun, or the hundreds of billions of stars in our Milky Way... or the 2T+ galaxies in the known universe.... would last forever... THAT should unequivocally prove to YOU that time is not something we constructed to help us explain natural phenomena. It may hard to grasp; if may work a bit distorted or warp-ish for some aspects of the "fabric of reality," at very "exotic" intersections of space-time.... but IT IS REAL... The "noise" DOES happen, when a tree falls in the forest... even if we're not there to hear it... because noise is just a function of molecular activities... A big thing like a tree does displace a lot of air molecules, as it goes from position A (standing) to position B (on the ground)...

The universe may have a certain shape, since the amount of matter in the universe is probably finite, perhaps flat, as the man says; however, space is obviously infinite in all directions, and by definition it has no shape or form, nor is it a substance you can bend or stretch. The proof is trivial. GR, like QM, is just a usuful model for making calculations, but there is absolutely no evidence that space and time are really as GR envisions them to be. A model is just an approximation, not reality. Physicists tend to confuse their models with reality. The accuracy of calculations does not prove that a theoretical model is correct; only finding that there is no other possible model does. And for now there are many other explanations for gravity and related phenomena.

In every gravitational field time is stretched and passes slower. You surely must have heard of the extreme time dilation which exists near very large blackholes, as shown very well in Interstellar. But you don’t even need a bh to experience time dilation, it happens to all of us all day, every day. Our feet/lower body parts age slower than our head/upper body does. This has been proven experimentally, not just using math or theory. GPS and sat nav would be out by about 10km per DAY for every day the time dilation the satellites experience due to being in a much lower strength gravitational field than us at sea level is not corrected and taken into account; their dilation is negative, they experience time passing much faster than it does at sea level. If the computers and systems in the satellites and on the ground didn’t take into account the fact that time indeed does actually pass at different rates gps simply would not work. Period. So there you have it, crooked time in action, affecting most of us every single day. Not to mention that if you could afford 2 accurate enough atomic clocks, you’d be able to see for yourself that lifting one to a height of about 40-50cm is enough to show it running faster than the clock on the ground. Moreover, space can also definitely have geometry. Tell me, when was the last time you were walking around and could feel or see that the earth, the ground itself is not flat at all, it’s VERY curved and spherical.
