Jensen has kind of revived Chabot's career that pair has been fantastic great trade for both sides that got the players they need

You missed the Matt Roy signing with WSH. He hasn't put up a ton of points, but he's excellent on the defensive side and has really allowed Ramus Sandin to flourish a bit more

Carolina, St. Louis, New Jersey, and Washington had great offseasons. Carolina's team really could've collapsed if they mishandled the UFA departures with panic signings and trades, but they instead made some great signings for system fits all over the lineup and have set themselves up with a boatload of cap space in 2025. St. Louis did great work with offer-sheeting a cap-strapped team to get young guys into the lineup, New Jersey made excellent defensive and goaltending reinforcements, and Washington did a rare-level retool that turned them right back into contenders.

The offer sheets from the Blues were bold although some might very well have called them back then stupid. The Broberg and Holloway starting to have worked wonders for their new team, still in the mix for playoff spot. The Canes, Caps and Devils also overall had better off-season than some might have expected them to have, and that they remain in top-three divisional spots is proof that their offseasons have translated onto the ice. Panic signings and/or trade no doubt can turn an offseason into a disaster, and that of 2021 for the Habs no doubt would turn out to be one that would lead to a last-place finish during the season that was to follow that which had finished with a run to a Stanley Cup final. The Canucks didn't have a great 2024 off-season either, with a smart signing of free-agent goalie Kevin Lankinen but with Nikita Zadorov and Ian Cole having left in free agency, the Blue Line apparently got quite a bit thinner, with: - Derek Forbort, often injured last season with the Bruins, having had trouble staying off injured reserve with his new team - Vinny Desharnais, fresh off a Stanley Cup final appearance with the Oilers, having also been an underwhelming signing, with next season still left after this one on his existing contract While streaky play by the Canucks has them barely above the playoff line, the current season of the preds has been an unmitigated disaster, with a double-digit standings-point deficit between them and a playoff spot. It may very well be chemistry issues will need more than this season to sort out with the Preds.

At least theres confidence in where you can give a A+ for the Sharks for Askarov, and you can see his performance this season with the cuda and his heroics performance vs McDavid and the Oilers

I never really thought Monahan lost his skills of a 1C. He had that down year of 23 points in 65 games with Calgary which sent him out the door. But man those major injuries take more then just a year to fully recover. We're seeing Caufield bouncing back to a 35+ goal ppg winger this year after a down year of just 28 goals and 65 points. Even Kirby Dach who has really struggled and is looking like the high 20s point center Chicago traded to Montreal. But I mean an MCL ACL tear the year prior. There's so many more examples of this. When Monahan came to Montreal and put up 17 points in 25 games. They were an over .500 team. And keep in mind that was year 1 rebuild Habs. With no Slafkovsky Hutson etc... And no one seemed to realy care. Everyone kinda just let it under their radar that he was still the same player with the same struggles at the end of his tenure in Calgary. Then he's actually healthy with Montreal and would you look at that. The Habs were a .500 team again with him healthy and he was putting up his 2018 numbers again. Then gets a first from Winnipeg which many seen as a large overpay for a 3rd line center with 1 year left. But again proves he's capable to be a top 6 center. The Jet's for whatever reason didn't resign him and let him go. Columbus seen that oppurtunity to reunite him and Johnny Hockey. They also seen who he really was and still the low dollar price for him. So they gave him what he wanted. Sadly Johnny Hockey passed for I believe the idea. But they still got a temporary 1C with Fantili being 18. I don't really understand how people didn't see Monahan as a top 6 center still. He only had 2 years in the last decade where he's paced for under 50 points. The only real issue I could see being brought from this deal was him suffering with more injury problems. But considering he played all 88 games last year in the season+playoffs. I thought it'd be just as it is. Maybe even better. I thought he could score north of 75 points again.

I wish we would have found a way to bring him back to MTL during the offseason. But we couldn't have competed for the contact he got.

KZbin is paying less than ever. He needs to make money somehow. I agree it’s annoying too but I understand why they all get sponsored now outside of KZbin ads

Most people don't care about the bets either, but at least it's sport adjacent. Do you wanna hear about raid shadow legends instead? Or even worse... Better help 😂

This is out of left field, but the idea of Stamkos getting traded to Dallas (before he loses more trade value) has got me very intrigued. I have no basis to back up this thought other than pure speculation. But oh my would that an interesting addition to the Stars.
@speedybure16 сағат бұрын
Granlund from SJ would make sense, he can play LW, C, RW...having a much better season that Stamkos.

With the Askarov trade, I completely agree that it's too early to tell from the Nashville perspective. I think it's already pretty clear that San Jose got a pretty good deal in the exchange, though. Not that it's at Nashville's expense by any stretch, just that San Jose has a need in goal and they have solidified the position for the future with this trade.
@speedybure16 сағат бұрын
Not at Nashville's expense? Preds need a rebuild or at least a multi-year reset. Could take another 5-6yrs for them to be contenders (if they are to be within the in the next decade). Askarov is younger, so it very could be at Nashville's expense. The 1st pick is for the upcoming draft, which isn't particularly deep, and drops off significantly after no. 6/7.

I’m not even a fan of the Red Wings but I’m still so disappointed that Yzerman traded Walman.

I wanna chime in on Kovacevic; big Hondacivic guy and loved him on mtl, but in no way was this a bad move for Mtl. The return was fair, and the necessity of freeing up space was very present back then. He wasn't in their future plans, as Hutson/reinbacher/Mailloux all had precedent as more valuable prospects, and guhle/xhekaj/struble as better pieces already there. Maybe if they moved Matheson instead he would still be on the team, but Savard had to go this trade deadline coming up as his veteran leadership is highly valued in the organization right now. He was simply the odd man out just like Harris was too, and Barron they've been trying to trade him for a year. Sad but it is what it is
@SkebbyPKMN17 сағат бұрын
Not to mention Jersey is much better of a home for him; he plays a mature game and went to a much stronger team that needed that desperately on a bottom 6 role. He would not be excelling nearly as much in Montreal as he is in Jersey.

17:12 I disagree with you there. I really don't see how you can give Montreal an A for the Walman trade.

Yeah, hard to give Montreal an A when SJ got Walman...

We couldn't keep Guentzel here. We're not gonna be contending for much longer, if at all, and I don't wanna see the rest of his career wasted away on a rebuilding team
