@@FlourgoldWizards The missing slurp power can only be achieved by increasing the drop. Gravity dredges are great by concept, but they won't work on most creeks and carrying the hose or the tubes through the forrest can be a PITA.

Add a 4" pipe maybe up to (6") to a 4" reducer down to your 2" pipe. Try a couple different lengths of the 4". That will build up the volume and probably keep the pressure higher. Good luck. 😊

I agree perhaps adding a t-connection 10 feet back from the leed end of the pipe and an extra pipe that will supply extra water pressure at the end and more suction at dredge end.

You’re exactly right! That’s how you get high pressure water to the other end. The same principle is applied when you have a hydroelectric setup. Even if you have a small peloton wheel and a car alternator
@offgridbc6810
@offgridbc6810 5 ай бұрын
@@MarkMarvin1983 You don't really get more pressure, that is based on height of source, what you will get if you downsize the end is more velocity. That is how a microhydro system works, more head means more psi and smaller size pipe at the outlet = more velocity.

Hi Wizard….Great vid!, thx!….as a retired Chemical Process Operator, who knows a little bit about Vac process, I’m impressed! Lol!….a small suggestion u might consider, adapting something similar to a vacuum rug cleaner at the end of pipe at ur sleuth it might help with more even flow….a small strip of cloth across the end, on top, might help a bit, stop air creeping back up the pipe, plus smooth out the water flow! Hope the tips might help….Rex was my 1st dogs name, they actually look very similar….mine was the 57 varieties type!!!….I appreciate ur enthusiasm for life!!!

Cute pup, looks like German shepherd pit mix to me. It's easy to see how they so easily did hydraulic mining back in the 20's and 30's just by putting a bunch of pipes together that got smaller as they went while running downhill. That setup is just begging to become a motorless pump. Something else you could try (though you don't really need to already owning sluice boxes) is running a piece of corrugated drain pipe with a T in it and putting an adapter that goes to a rectangular gutter hole. Then you can put a hopper into that hole and just shovel into that hole while the entire pipe is under water. The water flowing through it will work just like a sluice and the corrugations will act like riffles. Especially with how fine your gold always is, it'd make for a super simple setup. Something else you might try is Y-ing in a couple more pieces to your main pipe down in the last 10 feet so it can get a lot more water pushing through. The venturi effect of water pushing through should pull through the main pipe even harder. Also increasing the diameter of the pipe as you go will decrease the pressure output at the end, but will increase the overall velocity. (Odd that I know a lot about fluid dynamics huh? It's because it works a lot like exhaust :P) Oh and if you're wondering why you haven't seen a comment from me in a while after I was commenting on everything.. My back's been fucked up lately and so I started getting depressed. I want to be able to go out and do things but I can't even get out and walk the dog without ending up in serious pain.. and then I had a fight with a parent and had a small autistic meltdown and hit a stucco exterior wall three times as hard as I could sideways and busted one of the bones in my dominant hand.. so even if my back starts feeling better, I'm very limited on what I can do because as STP once said "you gotta take time with a wounded hand.." I picked up a 30 pack of beer at the store today and hurt it again. (of course I didn't get it looked at, because they would've asked questions according to my dad) So yeah, when I start getting depressed because I can't do something I want to, I don't want to watch videos about the thing that I want to go do and can't. Using a shovel right now is definitely off the table for me. Living in a den of negativity doesn't help either. Oh and on top of it, I've been writing a lot for the last week.. over 30,000 words of a story set basically in the DnD universe. :D

Awesome video Jason! I was extremely successful using a 50 ft pool flexible vacuum hose. It was 2 inches in diameter and smooth bore in the center which did not stop Gold until it hit my sluice. I was successful with less drop than what most people suggested I believe due to fast water flow. Add a diffuser at the end of the pipe to slow it before it hits your sluice similar to your screen on your beach rigbone. Cobbles!

Jason, i think if you really want to do this I would recommend adding a 11° injector onto the suction tube maybe halfway down the length of your main line going to your sluice. I would make that injector half inch inside diameter. Tapering out to 2 inch. This would be like adding a jet log to your set up. That would give you more suction. I've done a lot of reading on these many years ago. I think it be worth your while to tinker around with this to get your most efficient set up

If i can suggest, Try 3" pipe 20' long above the suction line reduced to 2" then merg and run along suction line like a mechanical dredge! Replacing the mechanical part of a dredge with the rivers flow before the siphoning effect gets started ? Then 2" pipe like it was ! with 1 more pipe half way down like jason recomend then merging 20' before it opens up on sluthbox ! You will have 3 points of water flow obove, siphoning and below! Hope I'm not embarrassing myself? As ive never tried it myself 😊

@@FlourgoldWizards wish i could help you carry the pipe !lol Still think all that area is big time influenced by glaciers ! and any big gold or big deposits are up (north) facing hills and at the ends of the glaciers intrusion south during the ice age ! Think glaciers scraping the gold and were would it get caught up or left, knowing how gold flows and glaciers cut the terrain? I would think a glacier hitting a hill slowly over centuries would leave gold up or on front or sides of the north face ! It could also be the north side of a drop off like an east west gorge or valley or a lake ? Boulder's on the hill even bedrock thats elevated !

Hi Jason , I was watching how the pipe suction is working and had a thought that if you extended the pipe further up stream and the same length you have down stream and fitted a "Y" section with the flexible hose where you want to dredge to do your suction as it would act as a siphon but you would also have more water speed travelling through the pipe and also more suction. The more fall you have with the pipe the more suction Pye R squared = more suck or something like that LoL!😊The only draw back is the amount of pipe involved and the drop in elevation of the creek or stream of your chosen location , but other than that a hydraulic ram setup . Learning has the occasional curve and trying something new and challenging is what life is all about. Cheers and Cobbles Mate👍👍👍😎💨🏴‍☠☮☮🌈☕☕💡🔧

There's a dip in the pvc pipe causing it to load up. Just put some rocks under that section to flatten it out. With enough pipe (and water)you could gravity feed water to a highbanker. Larger pipe reduced to spray nozzle, high pressure spray bar. Change out elbow for one with smaller pipe or tubing, down to pex tube, for crevicing. You could put a garden hose adapter on the flex pipe for washing down bedrock into a low spot

I've watched them spray the loose stuff down to a low spot with a garden hose attached to the highbanker where the could get at it with the sucker then break up the hard packed stuff out of the crack with crevicing tools. The gravity pipe works both ways. Suck and blow. Of course with suck, you have to keep the pipe as flat straight as possible to keep it from plugging.

Last suggestion I`ve seen this on powered dredges to put a rubber flap across the sluice few inches down flow to spread the water current. You might try adding a smaller screen to the suction Inlet, 1/4" hardwire cloth... possibly even two layers at 45 degrees to each other. That should eliminate rocks and just let the fines through.

Try turning your gravity dreg into a venture vacuum. About 1/4 to 1/2 the way down your first upstream pipe, add a y duct. Make sure your y is pointed up stream. Hook your suction hose to the y. I would probably go up in pipe size also. Adapting down to your suction hose from the y.

punch plate over the top of the mate would help and i agree longer maybe 4 in flex tubing (so you can follow the stream around corners if need be) hard pipe is fine if you have 80 feet or so with smaller screen over the nozzle so the bigger rocks don't plug up the pipe. thanks for the share! stay awesome!

Gravity dredge is a great tool. I think if you use a Y fitting at the top of 5 lengths of pipe and add one length to the top you will get better suction and too clean out the pipe of the material. But I would use 3 inch pipe and reduce the fitting for your flex hose to 2"

Try using a sanitary T, where the t curves in to the main part, you can use the flow end for water only and the curved T end for sucking. Use the other extra hose to connect and to go further up the stream for more fall.

I'm new, but been watching for a while. I wonder if you could attach the flex hose to a modified classifier bucket. Suction hose on the bottom and many holes drilled into the sides. Then use your metal screened separate and pull the trash out. Moving more dirt faster. Another idea I had what about submerging a black ribbed drain tile. Sticking it to the ground and coming back after a few weeks , catching your sand from stream flow.

If you run a pipe upstream, connecting with a Y to your main pipe after your suction hose. It might increase the draw on your suction. I've seen this done in the mountains, but there was much more elevation. 🤔

Great job Jason. I’ve been wanting to make a gravity sluice for a while now. I tried once before but I didn’t have enough fall and I was trying to use too big and long of pipe for me to handle. I was using 50, rolls of add drainage pipe and the ridge’s were too hard to clean out. But yeah this time I’m going smooth pipe into a flexible pipe like you did.

I love the concept. Tweak it. Check out charts of drop of elevation to drop for vacuum values. I used to use siphon tubes for irrigation in my youth and the higher the source vs. drop was imperative to flow. Good luck. I hope this helps.
