Airstones are still used within the fish tank, but no CO2 filters have to be used.

If there is no air pump, does the water after filter will back to the tank by gravity ? Or not? Is there a video explain a gravity filter and back again to the tank without air pump or water pump?

Ahmed, Good question! If there was no airpump to lift the water back to the tank, the water would remain at the same level in both the tank and filter and there would be no movement. In this video, we are injecting air into the large PVC pipe that is returning back to the tank. This allows us to lift the water above the tank's water level allowing more water to be fed back to the filter by gravity. This is how we can operate a filter without a water pump. Able, This filter was installed on a 2,000 gallon tank. For intensive RAS, we would stock this tank at around 1,000 lbs of fish. For an average stocking density, I would assume 750 lbs of fish. The filter itself is capable of supporting a maximum or 10-15 lbs of feed per day while maintaining TAN levels below 1-1.5 mg-N/L. This setup could work on multiple tanks as well with a centralized sump, but the total water volume/daily feed should not exceed 2,000 gallons and/or 10-15 lbs/day. For the airlift operation, we typically use a regenerative blower that can operate at at least 60" of head. This will assure that there is enough delivery pressure and air volume to maintain good water flow.

Why the water level in the filter is not the same level in water tank?

Ahmad, good question! The water entering the filter is being continuously airlifted back to the tank at the same rate that the water from the tank is flowing into the filter. This causes the water level in the filter to always be lower than that of the tank. If the air blower that is airlifting the filtered water back to the tank was turned off, the water level in the tank and the filter would equalize.
