Finally! THIS is the version I heard first. When Manson announced he had covered this song in 2004, before it was actually released that Fall, this version floated around as a "leaked" version of Manson's. Always loved the GK album version, but prefer this demo version. Even prefer it to Manson's version, and Manson's my favorite band. Hell, I even prefer it over the original and I love Depeche Mode too 😀

say whatever else you want to about Manson, but his cover was hot garbage compared to Gravity Kills.

I've been looking for this song for years. My dad got it off of limewire a while back under Marilyn Manson's name. Me being a seventh grade kid at the time and just getting into music, I we clueless. For years I thought it was the Manson version until I went to show my friend on KZbin, only to find it wasn't the same. I've been liking for it ever since then. I'm so glad I finally found it.

Back in the Napster Kazaa days, people had to manually enter tags and filenames for MP3s, so people would just put a song title with no artist. Having no idea who actually made it, eventually they were mislabled. Any humorous song would end up shared as Weird Al or They Might Be Giants, and this one was almost always shared as Marilyn Manson. Thanks for uploading this and helping to set people straight.

In limewire days, some artists deliberately uploaded songs with misinformation. Thanks to the original drummer of Dream Theater, I was introduced to the amazing band "Superior".

EXATAMENTE por esse motivo que eu estou aqui, eu estou organizando minhas Tags das minhas musicas MP3, e eu devo ter baixado nessa epoca pois a minha musica estava nomeada como Marilyn Manson! Hoje 14-jan-2024 eu finalmente sei quem é o verdadeiro artista! (e minha biblioteca do Itunes agradece!)

He did a cover of the song as well, it's originally a Depeche Mode song, that's been covered by a number of other artists over the years.

Well Jeff, I owe you an apology. I had thought you did yourself a disservice by putting Personal Jesus on Superstarved "after" Manson had famously covered it... what I didn't know then was that you beat him to punch by more than four years and Brian totally ripped you off! Always a fan of your music. I appreciate you sharing the behind the scenes!

@TreCoolness The band decided to redo Superstarved in 2001, so they edited their songs that they chosen and removed some other songs, so this cover for song was electronically adjusted to the way the band wanted it. -Chris Earthquake

I was listening to this song a lot, thinking it was a Manson cover, than came the announcement that Marilyn Manson is doing a cover of Personal Jesus. I was like yeah, sure, I've been listening to it for months or years now, how's that possible!? Turns out you can't trust every ID3 tag you saw in early mp3 files from dubious sources...

I’m sure even the presenter on Kerrang! Radio at the time said this was Marilyn Manson’s version when I first heard it back in 2004, now I know why could never find this version 🤦♂️
