Gravity Written by Kristene DiMarco, Kalley Heiligenthal, and Gable Price This innocent idolatry Not letting You in too deep Because who knows if You can handle me This innocent idolatry I thought it made You proud of me To keep my tears back behind my eyes When did I decide I’m not allowed to cry Positivity can’t split these seas And all my optimism won’t set this captive free I need a King who hung on Calvary I’ll always need a God who feels deeply I need a God who knows the, the gravity This innocent idolatry I made You somehow just like me Unable to sit in the suffering This innocent idolatry Movin’ too fast past my grief When You are acquainted with what I’m carrying When did I decide I’m not allowed to cry Positivity can’t split these seas And all my optimism won’t set this captive free I need a King who hung on Calvary I’ll always need a God who feels deeply I need a God who knows the gravity Don’t let this truth be lost on me My God He feels the gravity of everything

“For a mere moment I have forsaken you, But with great mercies I will gather you. With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,” Says the Lord, your Redeemer. “For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you. “O you afflicted one, Tossed with tempest, and not comforted, Behold, I will lay your stones with colorful gems, And lay your foundations with sapphires. I will make your pinnacles of rubies, Your gates of crystal, And all your walls of precious stones. All your children shall be taught by the Lord, And great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you. Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake. “Behold, I have created the blacksmith Who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord." ~ Isaiah 54:7-17

I like Kristene's songs very much, but the lyrics of this song are not easy to understand for me as a non-native speaker. Who can explain the sense of " innocent idolatry"? The word combination sounds strange.
@kerem69192 жыл бұрын
It means she had a wrong idea of who God was but it was well intenrioned and seemed harmless
@matthiaslehmann34282 жыл бұрын
@@kerem6919 thank you very much for your kind Answer! So I should not understand the words " innocent idolatry" in terms of " superficial or not real adoration of god? I thought the meaning of idolatry is very negative like to adore different man made gods and that s of course not harmless but sin. So idolatry in a positive sense would be also extreme admiration for Jesus ?
@kerem69192 жыл бұрын
@@matthiaslehmann3428 idolatry is kind of like having an image of God who's not the real God. So in the song she has an idol of a God who doesn't understand her emotions when the real God does :)

What tipe of innocent idolatry are u singing about if i may ask?
@shellyjensen6092 жыл бұрын
Positivity and optimism. Instead of running to God with her deep grief, she’s been trying to pretend she’s okay, so God hasn’t been able to be Lord of all of her life.
@leenieledejo68492 жыл бұрын
I agree with Shelly. Her idolatry (of creating a God in her own image during her period of grief for her daughter) was unintentional. Only with hindsight did she realize she had done it (God no doubt revealed it to her in His quiet and loving way: He chastens those whom He loves, so we grow as Scripture says). **Kalley's period of grief after losing her daughter, Olive. I recall that Kristene lost a family member quite recently too.
@liliangallegos97812 жыл бұрын
I don't feel a lot of anointment in this worship song, maybe because the adheretion of "innocent" to the word "idolatry". Idolatry NEVER will be something innocent. The rest of the song is pretty. Maybe we can take the use of "innocent" with sarcasm, but I still I dunno.
@leenieledejo68492 жыл бұрын
She means "unintentional" idolatry but obviously the word "unintentional" wouldn't have fitted in the beats/notes. Kalley's loss of her young daughter must have been unimaginable and would have broken many people. During a period of intense grief, we are not quite ourselves. I think it's a commendably humble and searingly honest song of repentance. Obviously as God was healing her of her pain, at the right time (out of His love for her) He also revealed to her that she had created a God in her own image at times and that she had been sucked into the American "positivity" culture which is all about pretense. As Christians we live in His Victory, we are spiritually alive and part of the fruit of the Spirit is joy etc but that doesn't mean we aren't truthful. We ARE allowed to be sad. But God won't leave us in sadness and won't let Satan bring us down and use circumstances to destroy us. So I don't agree that idolatry cannot be "innocent" i.e. unintentional. [Obviously choosing to go worship statues and physical idolatry is not what we're talking about here]. When we're at our most vulnerable, we can be tempted by it and it's only later, in hindsight once that period has passed, that we are able to recognize it. An example is a mother who loses two of her children and in her devastating shock and grief, she clings to her husband and one surviving child instead of clinging to God. That's unintentional idolatry provoked by unexpected and unimaginable tragedy. I am pretty certain that God is merciful to that kind of "sin". There IS a difference between error and intentional sin. Peter's error recounted in Galatians 2:11-13 was unintentional.
