hey guys at 1:16 when he is hitting the crap out of the Bstring 15th fret. Where does that super gritty sound come from? what techniques/gear allow u to unlock this
@bijankhadembashi10165 жыл бұрын
i know about raking (not great at it myself) but i just cant see how a gritty sound would sustain from that
@thiethie5 жыл бұрын
The overdrive pedal is doing most of the work there. It’s the fulldrive2. It has a lot of grit. Pair that with a good compression pedal, and I think you are good to go. Bonus points if you have the katana boost. The latter really cleans up the sound.
@bijankhadembashi10165 жыл бұрын
@@thiethie ah man, i've been wondering this for so long, i was just smashing my strings and turning on the overdrive of my little cube amp. I guess i should get a nice overdrive pedal, coz i'd like to develop the control to unleash the grittiness on demand. Thanks for the help!

I love this man! Please do one for his performance of Gravity when he says that every note coming out of his guitar is dedicated to B. B. King! And on a totally different note, is learning solos from different people cheating? Dont you have to figure it out all by yourself? I love this man, but I can't help but wonder. Meant no disrespect at all man. Just wondering.
@johnnyneves199 жыл бұрын
great lesson layout man, really. And nice playing. In sector 5, I think instead of multiple bends in the inicial part you could just do 1 bend and faster vibrato while picking the note. Makes it sound more like JM, but you did better on the tutorial than on the actual cover video. Great job man, overall really good. Earned my like and subscribe, hope you get famous in KZbin, Surely you will, with such quality videos if you keep uploading them. Cheers! From Portugal ;)
@thiethie9 жыл бұрын
+IQ they QQ You have a good eye and good ears! You are 100% right! I tried to follow JM's way of playing for the tutorial and I hope it's clear enough to be understood. But I personally cannot do that heavy vibrato while being on a full bend (It took me a lot of takes just for section 5 :) My finger muscles can't hold the pitch). So when I do play the solo, I take the more familiar normal bending route. But I appreciate your comment. Thanks for the support.
@johnnyneves199 жыл бұрын
+thiethie Hi thiethie, you're welcome. :) I figure string gauge change might help you out with that. I usually use .009/.042 strings and that bend isn't quite an issue. I mean by your overall guitar skill I can tell you can do that bend a lot better, and it's a key and beautiful part of the solo. I guess bend it normally and as you reach the full bend note upstrike it like you do and do a faster vibrato but a small one i mean don't go too low from the actual note :D You've made a great job anyways I'm not criticizing, pretty much everything else was on point
@thiethie9 жыл бұрын
IQ they QQ I am already using 9/42 string gauge. haha. I have really weak fingers. But I am working on the proper "door handle" vibrato technique. I do appreciate your comment. I think that positive criticism helps everybody learn.

ZTian hi. If you mean the backing track I used in my cover, then it is not a backing track. I used the audio from "Gravity - Live in LA - John Mayer Concert" and removed the mid frequencies from the EQ. Thanks for listening

Can someone enlighten me as to how he is getting the sound at 1:10 -- are they open? Palm muted? Something else? I can't seem to get it right.

why georgia the strummy part is basically open strings strumming. No palm muting.

Does anyone have the tabs in one sheet
@almntz947 жыл бұрын
can someone please tell if what kind of soloing technique/style is that in 3:53 - 4:02 ?
@thiethie7 жыл бұрын
+Alistair Mende that is my way of doing fast strumming. I basically connect my finger nail on an angle on the strings and "brush" on the strings. JM does it with a pick for more power. When I do it, my pick gets stuck in between strings and it doesn't sound as good. But I also believe that it depends if you are in a live setting. If so I would do as JM does and go full power strum. Hope this answers your question.

can u give the backing track to this song........please.....
@OnSugarHill9 жыл бұрын
Hey, excellent work on this! Really love the layout. I do have one correction though. On Section 5 in the "fast strumming" section, you put a B and D note (3 4), but it's really outlining a G7 chord, so he's playing the 5th and flat 7th, so it's actually D and F (7 on G string, 6th on B string) and it leads up chromatically into the C chord (8-9 on B-G). You can actually see it clearly in the video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKCXaGdsjb-arZom6s
@thiethie9 жыл бұрын
+OnSugarHill very good point. you are right. Ironically I didn't watch the video when I was transcribing the solo. I usually just rely on my ears. But thanks for the correction, and thanks also for watching.
@AmitxNaor8 жыл бұрын
any chance to elaborate more on the veey fast strumming part ? im trying to understand that technique but there arent lessons anywhere
@thiethie8 жыл бұрын
What I do is I use the tip of my middle finger to graze over the strings. And use a wrist action to get speed for strumming. This method compared to using the pick means that I get a softer and more constant volume throughout the strumming. For the wrist action, it's best to relax your wrist, and do a "queen's wave" type of movement. Just imagine the queen waving it that makes sense.. Hope that helps you. Thanks for watching

The EQ is - high mids, low lows. But it depends on the specific song. Hardware: Overdrive Pedal- Fulltone Fulldrive 2 Mosfet. Guitar: Fender strat MIM, stock pickups Hope it helps :)
