The city is called Kalmar which is one of the last subs. Kalmar is a city on the Swedish east coast just by the long thin island Öland. Kalmar is first mentioned on a few runestones from the late Viking age. But based on archeological findings and several old grave fields the aria and possibly Kalmar have bin inhabited since at least 1-2 BCE. Kalmar isn't named from Russian but from ancient nordic and it means something like a carin on a rocky island. By my coment wasn't entirely serious. I just find it funny when USSR have a thing for using their subs in Swidish territorial waters and have a sub named Kalmar. They even follow Swedish naming standards for warships. But it had been even funnier if it was a Kalmar class in the whiskey on the rock incident.

А я говорю которые стояли на вооружении разных стран. А ведь есть ещё те которые были построены, но по тем или иным причинам у них не было заинтересованных лиц. А таких тоже не мало. I am happy to see others thought the same. I think especially since this particular submarine is the first to ever sink a ship in combat it is of special historical significance. Further if for some reason the confederate flag is more offensive than both the nazi, soviet, and communist Chinese flags at the very least it should not be flagged with a US flag since it was a US flagged vessel the Housatonic which it sank. Just leave the flag off that one. Really silly tbh.

Not likely, as it was powered by batteries only, with no combustion engine to recharge them, and had extremely limited range. The first were diving bells. Back in the 5th century BC, Herodotus wrote that his contemporaries used a diving apparatus that sank to the bottom of rivers. In 332 BC, according to Aristotle, Alexander the Great, during the siege of the Phoenician city of Tyre, went down to the bottom in a diving bell - an inverted vessel filled with air. The inventor of the first operational submarine is considered to be the Dutchman Cornelius Drebbel. In 1620 September 7, 1776, went down in history as the date of the first combat use of a submarine. The Turtle attempted to attack the British flagship (frigate HMS Eagle). Volunteer Sergeant Ezra Lee volunteered to bring the Turtle to the frigate and attach a mine, but it was not possible to attach the mine to the ship - he came across an iron hook and could not drill through the hull. Lee, abandoning the explosive device to the mercy of fate, managed to escape. When he surfaced to orient himself, he had to fend off small vessels sent to the site of the attack by the British. At the same time, a mine with a running time mechanism surfaced and exploded in the East River, causing no harm. A new attempt to attack British ships took place on October 8 on the Hudson River. The Turtle was being towed to the place of attack, but the British noticed the enemy in time and, opening fire from their guns, sank both the towing vessel and the boat. (The description of the structure has been preserved on a number of schemes, the reliability of which is disputed by a number of authoritative authors)

Actually, the first functional submarine was invented by the Spaniard Isaac Peral in 1859. Well, what Drebbel believed was little more than a walnut shell with oars. The one from the Spanish Isaac Peral, had electric batteries, torpedoes and a periscope, much more like what we have today. The turtle that appears at the beginning of the video, is little more than an American legend and I never sail because it didn't even work. Another Spaniard Narcís Monturiol, was shortly after the inventor of the oxygen recycling system in submarines. Spain is thus placed as the nation that contributed the most to the modern development of the submarine, in the same way, the Spanish Navy has the S-81 being one of the most modern and manoeuvrable in the world. The same Spanish military company called NAVANTIA manufactures its most technological ships for the United States fleet, obviously since the American Defence budget is much larger than the Spanish one.

I find it odd that so few people in the comments talk about how impressive Sweden is to be alongside such large and power countries. Such a small country like it was one of the first countries alongside with the big giants like US, Russian, China, Germany could actually manufacture submarines. And to this day still operates submarines like their famous Gotland class that actually sank a US aircraft carrier "USS Ronald Reagan" during a War game exercise. Snuck past the entire strike group, managed to fire it's torpedoes and leave completely undetected. Truly impressive for a country of it's size and GDP to build such advanced machinery like the Gotland and planes like the "Gripen".

Why only 3 UK submarines? The first commissioned submarine was Holland 1, which launched in 1901. It was designed by the Electric Boat Company and marked the beginning of the Royal Navy’s submarine service. WW 1 A-class, B-class, and C-class submarines. Notable submarines during this period included the HMS M2, which carried a sea plane, and the D-class, E-class, and F-class submarines. The interwar years saw the introduction of classes like the Odin, Parthian, and Rainbow classes. The S-class, V-class, and W-class submarines also played significant roles during this time. World War II: World War II brought about a substantial expansion of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. Notable classes included the S-class (War Emergency Programme), T-class (War Emergency Programme), and U-class (War Emergency Programme) submarines. The P611-class and R-class submarines were also active during this period. Cold War Era: From the late 1950s to the late 1980s, the Royal Navy continued to develop its submarine capabilities. The Porpoise-class (diesel-electric hunter-killer) and the Oberon-class (diesel-electric hunter-killer) submarines were prominent during this era. The transition to nuclear-powered submarines began with the Valiant-class and continued with the Amphion-class submarines. Nuclear-Powered Submarines: The first British nuclear-powered submarine, HMS Dreadnought, emerged in the 1960s. While its hull and offensive systems were British-designed, its propulsion system came from the United States2. Subsequent classes included the Astute-class, Artful-class, and Explorer-class submarines. Midget Submarines: The Royal Navy also operated midget submarines, such as the Stickleback-class (X51, X52, X53, X54). Foreign-Built Submarines: Notably, the Royal Navy acquired foreign-built submarines like the German Type VII U-boat (Graph), the Italian Archimede-class (X2), and the German Type XVII U-boat (Meteorite).

The first submarine was not Spanish, Spain did not invent the submarine, if you knew how to do simple research you would know that there were several submarines before Peral's, and you would know that his would have made not the slightest difference at all in that war because it could had no onboard way to recharge its batteries and was limited to about 10 miles from a home port with sufficient electricity. АПЛ Навага 667А пр. длина указана верно -132м по КВЛ, а архитектура ошибочно срисована с Акулы (941пр.), у которой ракетные шахты находятся перед рубкой, а у Наваги за рубкой.

It is the wrong model as with many of these subs, the Holland design was much more antique if you google it.

What about Italians? 🇮🇹 U212A have been used by Germany and Italy together. You even missed the Trieste, the first submarine to reach the deepest point in the bottom of the ocean, a true piece of history.

This would have worked better if you used tonnage instead. Many of the 'larger' subs were vastly lighter than those from earlier in the line.
