Think you did a good job. It works only with very good AI….challenging AI…surprisingly AI…and where exactly is the game that ever did this? Also for the longest time this was my main issue with Star Citizen. Why a 100 star systems when you 99% of the time dealing with NPC’s…and of course they have big plans for Ai but still after all these years it is lightyears away from having convincing Ai…and with convincing I mean it has to be close to indistinguishable to human players. Otherwise it gets boring after 20 minutes…🤷‍♂️

Of course it is overhyped! It isn't released, so everyone has their own idea for what GZ will be. Some of those people will inevitably be disappointed if it doesn't match the hypothetical game in their mind. I DO hope its great though!

Finally! someone who isn't like "OMG OMG TARKOV KILLER HERE" ..... for a start it's insanely overhyped for everything we've seen, and it also definitely isn't going to be a Tarkov killer and isn't intended to be one as devs stated it is heavily based around PVE and you could play for hours before even seeing another player, with that knowledge alone it definitely wont replace Tarkov for people who want faster player interactions. But it has massive potential and I'm sure most of us are excited to see how this game comes together once early access launches.

I also blame a decent number of creators for having exactly zero capacity to express nuance, and the few that do being hamstrung by the requirements of the algorithm. If you sieve through the bs, almost everyone said some version of "it's got some glaring issues, but the devs seem aware and keen to address them - if they can manage, it should have an audience". Which is a perfectly reasonable place for a pre-launch game to be at. Meanwhile, on the discord, the game is either going to cure erectile dysfunction or a total scam. Shit's wild.

I am so glad you spoke about needless complexity in gaming! I totally agree that immersion is not achieved when something is so complex that no one is able to react to or predict what will happen. This is why I’ve always been against fragmentation in Tarkov. Sure it’s realistic, but it’s not fun or predictable.

Good vid, as always! The comment on the netcode especially is very accurate, because you cant actually see the solutions and ways developers are doing their thing, and cant really say why this or that happens. And netcode is a very hard thing to nail down. Theres huge number of examples where the devs are certainly struggle with the netcode, and tarkov is one of this examples for sure. I hope this guys will do well, it's always good to have a good game, and this particular type of gameplay doesn't have too much of a choice on the market to be fair. Interested to see how they manage to stop farm runs. The AI and missions will make or break it, Dayz turned to total shit the instant pvp was just mandatory because there zombies werent a threat (and for years didnt exist).

Without emphasis on pvp and sometype of player scavs this game is already setting its it self up for a shorter lifespan. Even if its nigh perfect gameplay it will get boring. Part of the magic of Tarkov is EVERY SINGLE RAID can end in a near infinite set of things happening between players. I hope its fun but I am skeptical.

Ok stop using Tarkov as norm. There are other games that are fun and have no player scavs and ehat not. Ready or not is popular and doesn't even have PVP. And its only inside levels. This is open world and PVP as option on top. Saying game isnt fun if it doet have PVP is dumb. Even insurgency sandstorm in coop mod shooting AI is more fun than PVP. And last time I checked thisnis supposed to be very realistic military shooter so Tarkov players wont like this. Careful slow approach calling targets shooting semiauto looks immersive and realistic. Tarkov everyone fullauto bulletsponge with rpg elements instead of skill is just boring to me. To each it's own.

I think you arent giving enough credit to the potential AI of games that arent Tarkov. Many primarily/exclusively single player/PVE games have incredibly immersive AI and the fact that tarkov cant do it doesnt mean it cant be done

Just one thing. The ballistics system is a major draw for people like me, and it is based on the same promise that got me to play Tarkov. I prefer simulation games. I prefer slow gameplay, and I prefer gunfights where you are not a bullet sponge. I know that realism has been discussed to death, but it is still a selling point for many of us. I welcome a game less focused on PvP. As someone with thousands of ARMA, spanning from Operation Flashpoint: CWR to Arma III and Reforger, this seems like a bit of fresh air to me. It seems more similar to game modes like Antistasi than it does to Tarkov. I am not particularly hot on Antistasi, to be honest. But it seems a lot closer to what they are aiming for than it does to Tarkovs gameloop. And I think that is a good thing. But hey, I prefer Tarkov SP mod over live tarkov anyhow.

Escape from Tarkov is a great game but i think it suffers from it's own strengths which is this gritty/dark setting. Gray Zone Warfare has less of that with the setting being tropical, which i think helps the game be less scary and daunting to a typical casual player. It's more colorful and vibrant and they can always expand into other settings. I look forward to GZW.

So far this looks like a tech demo, we will just have to wait and play it to know for ourselves, I have no idea how the devs manage to grab so many headlines so far with what they have.

The second most wishlisted game on Steam which will release soon; Manor lords, is also a good demonstration of this. It is not even out and people are saying repeatedly that it is going to kill another franchise (Total War). Keep in mind that it is primarily a city builder, every person who dies in a conflict is a person lost from your village so you can't just fight constantly because you won't have any people left, and on release there will be no AI villages/cities to conquer, no multiplayer, no modding... still people think it is going to put Total War out of business because they saw a group of soldiers walk in formation in the trailer...

The biggest red flag for me about this game is how there will be both PvE and PvPvE servers with shared progression between them for who knows what reason. Aside from the unfairness of players being able to gear up in PvE servers and then migrate to PvPvE at their own discretion, that will also mean that points of interest on the map in the PvPvE servers will be visited less frequently by players because a lot of them won't need to go there to complete missions or to find special loot.

I really hope this game is good so it gives me an alternative to Tarkov. Tarkov is fun for the most part, but I think I'm getting to an age where I just want a more relaxing, less hardcore experience. That is why I loved The Cycle Frontier when it was out.

The reticle is so steady with player movement aka CoD. Good or bad? Definitely doesnt look like it'll have the same gritty vibes as Tarkov in terms of gunplay. *yeah old recoil is shit, new recoil is much better, but the weapon sways/cam shake however annoying does add to the Tarkov feel

I know its responsible in a way for a whole slew of these games at this point, and trying to be the next Tarkov has toppled many so far. Its going to have to be unique enough to set itself apart and be good enough to share the same game space with Tarkov. Or, it will fail as the rest have. that being said I do hope it succeeds

I mean just at base the settings of GZ is extremely underwhelming. Urban environment of Tarkov by itself is more engaging visually and gameplay wise unlike 69420th flat plain island jungle rendition. If devs picked that as the settings for the game - i dont have high hopes for everything else.

There is going to be pvp just.PVP quests. Are you going to tell me that in tarkov there would be no PVP if there were no PVP quests. Some people just sit on hill and snipe for fun. Not all players grind for progress. Also when your live matters you enjoy the pvp more and have more fear of loosing character.

@17MrLeon just based on map size, In a map 42km square, with only 48 players there will definitely be less pvp. Even in tarkov you kinda have to go to certain areas to guarantee pvp. So yeah i stand by the pvp areas are decided by community. I said its not tarkov, meaning yes tarkov would still have a lot more pvp even without the quests to participate in it

Tarkov AI is excellent if you are running SAIN, Swag+donuts, questing bots and looting bots. Tarkov AI is awful on live because BSG's inplementation is designed to minimize cpu load on their servers, often by having the AI just cheat.

Coming from someone who's been bored by Tarkov's mindless questing system and non-existent story [soon™] for multiple wipes now, if GZW has even slightly intriguing lore/character/story arcs, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I wonder if the building hype around GZW might encourage other studios to give an earnest try at the genre. So tired of EFT being the only game in town.

Anyone not expecting this to be in a similar state to Tarkov in 2017, and not expecting it to be 5 years of development is a fool. Undoubtedly we will see these people on the internet claiming that MFG has duped them the same way they think BSG has. In reality they are duping themselves.

I am more optimistic that things will move faster then 2017 tarkov for the following reasons: they are building on the current Unreal Engine and are an experienced development studio vs Battlestate spaghetti code mixed in a old Unity version.

Well hopefully their previous experience will lead to faster better updates. Tarkov devs are horrible in terms of communication and speed/skill.

Jungle seems like the lazy way out of actually designing maps with anything on them. This game looks infinitely more boring than doing my taxes

If the GZ devs release a game with good, working audio, netcode and anti-cheat then they will have already exceeded BSG and Tarkov. That's a pretty low bar. If they can't meet that, I'm not gonna be playing it. It looks so generic in terms of setting and assets that im already put off.

It's supposed to be far more similar to Ghost Recon Wildlands than Tarkov and that's coming straight from the devs 😂 Tarkov players love inserting themselves into every military shooter

I mean it's not a Tarkov killer, it's another league.. Tarkov is nothing to this, it's like a mobile game vs a AAA title - open world, no loading screens, good graphics, consistent world...
