"It was the ninth year of summer, and the seventh of Bran's life." - Bran I AGOT So as we can see summer has lasted for 9 years in AGOT. Don't know how long the previous spring lasted though. However it was winter before the Tourney of Harrenhal, which took place in the year of the False Spring, and after the Tourney sometime the season got wintery again so probably right around the beginning of Robert's Rebellion. So I think that means the real spring must have lasted years too.

That exchange between Arya and Ned is so interesting on so many levels. Since Ned tells her she will marry a king (rather than a lord like in the show), I always wonder if that is foreshadowing for Arya's endgame. Since Nymeria is named for a military princess who was the equivalent of a queen, that strongly suggests she could end up the same. Her refusal of that call seems to be the fact that she connects marrying a king to following in the path of Cersei and Sansa, which she's not interested in. The kind of queen Arya would be more closely aligns with Nymeria, Rhaenys, Visenya, Alysanne, and Daenerys. It's also interesting that Arya never asks if she can be a knight. She instead asks about the professions that Ned says Bran can pursue even though he is now disabled. Despite the fact that she's learning to fight physically, she asks if she can be a king's councilor, an architect, or a high septon. This shows how her dreams extend beyond martial pursuits into other careers.

There is a theory going around Quora that Jaqen, who Arya befriended in the books is actually Rheagar's and Elia's son Aegon, who wasn't swaped once, but twice, first by Rheagar and the second time by Varys and Illiryo, who shiped him to Lorath and replaced him with fAegon who is a Blackfyre. While Aegon, under the allias of Jaqen and now Pate, is cooking his revenge to expose both Varys and Illyrio. There are also way too many parallels between Arya and Jaqen with Rheagar and Lyanna, like swearing an oath under the Weirwood tree at Harenhall. From that I can see Arya being the Queen in the North or go with Jaqen some place far away from the politics of Westeros instead of a one night routine with Gendry wich the TV Series depicted.

@D D Agreed. It would be a betrayal of her character.
@winterwolf74234 жыл бұрын
@D D I don't see any basis for this. GRRM has created several female characters who, like Arya, defy the conventions of Westerosi expectations on women. Most of those women still have romance. Defying convention doesn't mean a character isn't able to find love and commitment. A list of warrior women/unconventional women who find love/romance/sexual passion in Westeros while defying expectations: Elia Sand, Alysanne Blackwood, Nymeria of Ny Sar, Alyssa Targaryen, Baela Targaryen, Daena Targaryen, Rohanne Webber, Obara Sand, etc. Not following societal restrictions does not prevent someone from finding love and commitment. There is no reason Arya can't marry when she gets older.
@winterwolf74234 жыл бұрын
@@Δ-Δ-Δ-Δ As I said in my response above, no. It would not be a betrayal of Arya's character to find love and commitment. Many women who don't fit societal conventions find love in real life and in the world of Westeros.

Baelish assured that Ned would not discuss his suspicions with anyone. Quite brilliantly done: there is no way to tell whether there really were that many people spying on Ned, but by pointing Ned's lack of expertise Baelish deprived him of any alternative point of view.

About chess, the queen used to be the vizier, a kind of arab commander, in the arab world that is the dude that is in charge of the sultan forces. When Chess travels to europe it hanges to Queen because there where no viziers.

Pycell gave Ned the book, because he was sworn to serve the Red Keep, and Ned spoke in the name of the king. He had no idea, that a boring geneaology could lead anyone anywhere, and it did not with Ned. It took quite a bit of prodding and pushing by all kinds of people for Ned to figure anything out, at the long last. There was no special secrets contained in the book, and Pycell was not the only one who seen Jon Arryn with the book, so Pycell could not risk Ned mentioning to Robert that the grandmaester was breaking his vows.
@iamsecond4114 жыл бұрын
Hey Gray! Maybe Pycell gave Ned the book because he didn’t want Ned to be hand of the king like Cersei didn’t want Ned to be HOTK. Hear me out. He knew that The book would lead to Ned finding the truth out and because Ned is honorable of course he would give Cersei the chance to confess her infidelity which would lead Cersei to retaliate and lead to the fall of Ned. Especially if Pycell knew that Cersei was working on getting rid of Robert. Helping her get rid of Ned would solidify his position next to the Lannister’s and allow him to maintain the power he had. Idk tin foil maybe and maybe I’m giving Pycell too much credit but I have a feeling this was a very smart and decisive move that Pycell knew would lead to Edwards downfall.

Knighthood, in a place like Westros, is more about proficiency of skill of arms, as opposed to modern knighthood in the UK, where Knighthood has become a service award. Ser Hugh probably wasn't quite ready for Knighthood, but was Knighted by Robert because Jon Arran who was expected to Knight Squire Hugh relatively soon, had died. Robert probably took pity on Hugh and knighted him out of sympathy, because Robert was likely knighted by Jon Arran as a teen in the Vale. We know from the Alayne sample chapter that Knighthood can be given prematurely, because that is why Bronze Yon Royce set up a Squire's tourney specifically for Harry to win and get knighted, so Harry the heir could compete for Sweet Robin's guard. Between Alayne cursing Harry, and what happened to Ser Hugh, I would not put money on Harry at that tourney.

I don't get why you think a never ending summer would be bad. Never ending summer would mean more food, less starvation, more people can do other things than farming. It's basically better in every way. I think "the song of ice and fire" means, that the just IS a balance of good and evil, not that good is also evil. It's more, that the song plays in every character, so there are no good or evil characters, but only characters that are good and evil. It's like in Star Wars, that the force tends towards a balance, but the Sith are just pure evil.
@destinitaylor43604 жыл бұрын
An endless summer isn’t all good if you think about it right? I mean sure it’s nice for all other parts in the world but what about the north and beyond the wall? Wouldn’t the wall be melting and the animals beyond the wall be struggling to survive? 🤔
