The biggest hole in the theory of the “Doom of Valyria” is the fact that, how did the Fourteen Flames erupt and then ALL the Valyrians and dragons are gone? We’re there not Valyrians or dragons and other places too? Why were they ALL in Valyria? How is there literally no other Valyrians or Valyrian magic or steel makers, like I find it hard to believe that they would ALL be there, and not expanded. Only the Targaryens? The Valeryons and Celtigars? That’s it? No way.

They weren't, and at least one lord tried to go back to Valyria to try to reclaim it, but were never heard of again. And I think the Targaryens warred with the surviving Valyrians, to make sure they were all gone. Aegon the Conqueror warred in Essos, on Balerion, before he invaded Westeros.

I really loved this video! Thank you very much you all three of you!!! I have this semi formed idea that Dany may be the 3rd "cycle" of Valyrians, getting closer to justice. Like you all mentioned, the Valyrians were very evil. The 14 flames were almost giant godmouths that they daily fed human blood sacrifice into. Those slaves, especially in the very deep parts of the volcanoes, lived terrible lives full off suffering, pain and death. But I think there was more to their deaths-I think the Valyrians used dark magic as necromancy... So when those poor souls died, they were just brought back to suffer again, many many times. This is where the FM come in. Not only did they give the gift of final death, but I think that the Valyrians may have been not just using blood, but maybe stealing the souls of the slaves. That part sounds may be too Judeo-Christian, but like Berric and Stoneheart, they lost not their lives but their own...essences. Maybe that sounds better than souls. And the FM not only gave eternal death, but let them die without stealing their souls/essences. (Which may mean there was some more evil magic done that goes past necromancy. Maybe the souls fueled the 14 Flames or dragons themselves. Which means that R'hollor AND the White Walkers can both do similar things to the Valyrians. So maybe they're all evil in some gray way? The Targs maybe saw the true evil in what the Valyrians did to people, and left purposely without bringing that can of worms- so it could never be opened. But then they forgot, created their own selfish reasons for using their magic/ dragons against each other and they perished too. But Dany is here to break the wheel. The third cycle? I don't know. But it seems like something is causing the earlier people (whose names are lost in the annals) who taught the Valyrians, and then the Targs later on, to want to separate themselves from the rest of the Valyrians. And here is Dany. 3 is a very important number in so many religious texts, myths, cultures and such. Moon and pagan worship impress upon the Maiden,Mother and Crone. There's the Holy Trinity. And lots more. This isn't all my original thought, but me putting some pieces I've heard/read together in some (hopefully) cohesive idea. Anyways, thanks again for all you do and produce. Xx

First off I absolutely love listening to your podcasts, I love all y'all's work, opinions, thoughts, & takes....Huge fan of y'all I want to read the books so freakin' bad, honestly all the book information I do get or learn anything about is through y'all, podcasts, discussions, book reads, etc, ....since yes I still have yet to purchase & read the books....real life takes precedence as I am a mother, don't judge too harshly that I have yet to read them on my own.... Hey gray, I have been wondering about something and figured I would bring it up to you. I think you would do it justice better than anyone else. Melisandre told stannis when she believed he was the prince who was promised, “you will betray the men who follow you, you will betray your family.” Do you think that all these things she told Stannis were meant for Jon? He has betrayed the men who follow him by bending the knee to dany...could he betray his family next? Or was it just foreshadowing for stannis? She saw all these things in the fire that related to the prince that was promised, but she was telling the wrong person. It’s just interesting taking all she said and seeing how it’s relevant to Jon.

LML brings up a fantastic point about why the Targeryens didn't bring the technologies of Valyria to Essos. The speculation of different houses having a different craft or skill, really puts me in the mind of feudal Japan. Japan's had stations and clans based on a social food chain. So, that would be mean even though was no figurehead sitting rule at the too, there had to be like a shogunate of leader a daimiyo of warriors (dragonlords and dragonriders) all the way down to artisans and merchant class. And what if, the Targeryens who were a lower house, were considered bottom rung and them leaving for Dragonstone was just taking what they could. I don't remember the Dooms approximation to when they left, but what if they did get some type of heads up. What if their was a recipe for when The was foretold to happen? Something that Daneys the Dreamer said. Or a certain time stamp of who would be there, in Valyria when The Doom was to strike. It certainly makes for a reason to suddenly, hightail it out of there.

so targaeryens were minor family. they moved to dragonstone after fake dream of a kid. before they left took only few valyrian special things. moved to dragonstone and built a castle there. we know that there is a mountain of dragonstone there. what if it was volcano of westeros and they used it for their own magical advantage and take down valyria in order to kill all competition and move forward with their idea of conquering the world starting from westeros. that volcano around which dragonstone was built is now cooled down and thats the mountain jon snow is mining for dragonglass.

I have a theory about Dany, I believe she is the amethyst empress reborn. I believe that Targaryens\valerian are descendants of emperor god on earth who ruled over the great empire of the dawn at the beginning of time. The emperor god ruled a benevolent world for 10000 years, he then made one hundred women he's wives and left to join his forebear in the stars. He also left his oldest son in charge who went by the name pearl emperor after him came the jade tourmaline onyx topaz opal than the amethyst empress. The amethyst empress was the last of the benevolent line, her envious brother cast her down and proclaimed himself the bloodstone prince , he's reign of terror and slavery began, the people knew sin for the first time. This was known as the great blood betrayal. Many say the bloodstone prince was the start of the long night as he practiced in blood magic the dark arts. Where does Dany fit into all this , we know that the valerians match the description of the old gods and we know Dany has had vision of the difference colour described to of ruled at the beginning of time, Euron also describes Dany as having eyes of amethyst. In my opinion in one form or another the original emperor god has returned to bring balance to the world of ice and fire, Rhealler was the last female valyrian alive at this time, so he impregnated her with his seed. we know Rhealler was unable to have children because all the miscarriages in the past and then Daenerys Targaryen was born amidst the greatest storm westeros had ever seen. The stallion which mount the world and the amethyst empress are the same person, her khalasar will shadow the earth once again as the prophecy suggests and she will take everything back from the bloodstone prince metaphorically speaking and order and balance is restored. Its not the first time a man has taken everything from a woman in reference to the amethyst empress and bloodstone prince, it happen in a dance of dragons too.

Great podcast! I just found Ideas of Ice & Fire yesterday & already watched much of his Dune content. Always enjoy LML. Hope you guys do more together either here or on Patreon. Interesting theory about the Doom being caused by the FM & House Targaryean being part of it. Could explain why they chose not to return to the east (it was part of the bargain) & instead conquered Westeros. LML, you have a quick mind & get caught up in the discussion. Sometimes when your brain fires fast you feel like if you don't say it, you will lose the thought. Jotting down little notes might help. That way you can allow the other person to say their piece & not forget what your train of thought (rebuttals) were. Just a suggestion :) It's unfortunate that your enthusiasm for the subject gets interpreted negatively :(

I think Jon is the Lightbringer himself ...He is Rhaegar[AA]or Dannys[AA] metaphorical Lightbringer..NK may had known that AA has come for him and for to end his dark time on Westeros ..thats why he did throw the javelin at her and Drogon ..In S7 are hints that Danny is AA and Jon is Lightbringer..her metaphorical Lightbringer..She throw her sword[Greyjoys/Martels] in the EP2 in water[sea]by that broken[by Euron destroy Yaras fleet]..In EP3 she throw her sword[Tyrion and Unsulied] to the lions heart[Casterly Rock..the lions home]but get broken again [Loses Ollena Tyrel and the Reach by Cercei]..Then comes Jon Snow[the new sword]..and she falls in love with him [he with her]..and goes saves him in that wight hunt mission ..sacrificing her beloved child Viserion[nissa nissa],agrees to fight the NK and earns the the Lightbringer[Jon bend the knee and proclaim her his queen]..The story of AA in the show is HER story actually..Also the NK is worried about that because he also knows that Danny and Jon will bring to life ..the Last Hero/PTWP..That baby will be the symbol of hope and life..the Dream Of Spring and the Wolf pack that will survive when the Lone Wolf[Jon]dies during war ..and will be the ending of the Long Night and the death of the NK ..because death pays for life..Jesus type defeat Satan..Hercules defeat Hades or Thor defeat the Ice Giants..you know..that will be in the show..in the books idk..What do you think?

Bran the builder built Winterfell over a volcano. Most of Winterfell above ground expanded over the centuries according to Maester Luwin, but the above ground part of Winterfell still isn't as large as the crypts, the crypts are also of an unknown depth as well. It is rumored that the deeper levels have sunk in but that is not given from a credible source within the canon. This means that when Bran the Builder constructed Winterfell, 90% of what Bran the Builder is personally responsible is the underground complex we know as the crypts. The area around Winterfell is also full of hot pools and springs which are coming from some underground heat source. Yellowstone national has hot springs and pools all over because it has an underground super volcano. Volcanoes are not just a source of heat but a source of magic in this series it seems, which would make it a crucial place to be during the long night to make a stand against the Others, giving credence to the idea that the castle is named Winterfell ironically. Gargoyles also seem to be donned only on the oldest castles in Westeros like Winterfell, and a few other very old castles. The only castle in Westeros that isn't thousands of years old that has gargoyles on it is Dragonstone which is funny because Dragonstone was built by Valyrians. So the idea that pre-Valyrians (for lack of a better name) were all over Westeros long ago is plausible. The COTF probably remember these old pre-valyrians who built Storm's End and the Wall and Winterfell and all the other places said to be built by Bran the Builder. There is a lot more evidence of these people being in Westeros than I care to type about in one post. I also believe that Valyrian Steel can't be created without dragons, whether because dragonfire is necessary or because it is said that all magicwent out of the world when the last Drago, died and had probably been waning since the fall of Valyria and Valyrian steel needs to be made while there are living dragons in the world so the spells will work. The man in Quarth couldn't climb a ladder of fire before the dragons returned, nor could the glass candles be lit, nor did the spells used on wildfire by the pyromancers work, it only makes since that the spells used in valyrian steel forging be ineffectual as well. Any old magic remembered by the warlocks and the faceless men and the COTF will be able to be used once more as well. It was called dragon steel by the pre-valyrians because there was no Valyria to name it after plus it was probably known by these people that dragons were necessary to create the steel so they named it after them.

Is Craster a secret Stark? If so, maybe he's giving his sons to the White Walkers KNOWING that he's helping them build an army to help destroy Dany. The White Walkers have been active again for about as long as Viserys and Dany left King's Landing, which I have postulated is about how long it would take to have 99 sons. Didn't Craster tell Jeor Mormont that he had 99 sons? If you average 5 sons a year for close to 20 years....

Thank you for delving into all the Valyrian steel swords! Even though y'all left out Heartsbane! :-). I LOVE this podcast! Okay Okay may I AX you a question, GRAY!!! Do you still think the Iron Throne is Valyrian steel?? Cause you didn't mention it this time like the video you did back in April. If so, they should get to work melting the damn throne STAT and get some swords into some people's hands! We running out of time... One more thing: Ned tells Jon Snow the last time he sees him before leaving and later dying that the next time he sees Jon, he will tell him who his mother is and let him know more about her. Now since he is dead, I am a bit curious...where did Ned's body go after he was killed? I know they played with his head. Were they kind enough to at least send his body back to Winterfell to be buried in the crypts? If so, do you think Jon Snow will see Ned down in the crypts? And let him know who his mom is then? Do you think people will come from the afterlife to help in the battle? Cause that last line to Jon before he died seems like a big foreshadow that he will see him again in my opinion. Like how do you think Jon's visit to the crypts will go down in your imagination? Do you think it will happen next season? I am sure that a HUGE part of Season 8 has to have reveals happening down there. I mean it just has to. Winterfell has to be very very important in this defeating of the night king, yes? I think you may have done a Crypts of Winterfell video before but I've watched so many videos I can't remember everything in detail.

Interesting stuff. I guess I'm more oblivious to Ice and fire folklore than I thought. Especially the events prior to A game if of Thrones. I did always think Targeryans caused the doom of Valerya. Also, I mostly always thought that the dragon Lords never really went up north because they New of the ice dragons. They're much bigger and that they could easily freeze even fire dragons. Let's say they spit -400F ice. Like in Day after tomorrow how the air was so cold it froze things instantly. Then all you have to do is hit it hard and shatter it. I think that's what's beneath Winterfell and Bran will warg it. Which is why a Stark must alway be in Winterfell. (Tinfoil af)

Throughout my second time watching game of thrones I kinda noticed something. So fire and ice are clearly important to the story for many reasons. I focused on the fire part first and I noticed that in tons of notable scenes, there's either like a fire pit or torch going. What if it wasn't slave sacrifice to pay the price of Valeryan technology, but rather dragon sacrifice? Dragon lights the flame then is killed and it's blood is the sacrifice. That would explain why the Targaryens wouldn't have access to it as well.

Is it possible that the Targaryens DID have the technology but it was dragon blood sacrifices required instead of human sacrifices? That would also explain the Targaryens not using the technology because they needed all the dragons they could get, even the unhealthy ones.
