Grays Peak // Skiing a Front Range Classic

Greys Peak is one of the most popular 14ers in Colorado. People flock to the trailhead throughout the summer due to its accessibility and proximity to Denver. In the winter and spring months, it is less congested, but plenty full of people aiming to bootpack steep couloirs and ski some of the best variety of backcountry lines close to Denver. It is a breeding ground for amatuer ski mountaineers. I am one of them. As I was alone, I opted to ski some of the more mellow terrain and get one last day of beautiful Colorado backcountry before travel and training take up the rest of the summer.

I want to hike up and snowboard down…do I need to be worried about avalanches now June 15th 2023?

I don't know what the snowpack looks like right now but most likely not. Definitely check the Colorado avalanche info center forecast for specific information on avalanche danger and snowpack though.

Any big plans this summer? Definitely feel like there’s been a big uptick in quantity and quality the past six months.
