I am really looking forward to getting the beginner edition of your volume 1 grayscale coloring book! I have never done grayscale before, but have wanted to do so. Your video was clear to the point & easy to follow. As 1 who has almost 50 coloring books & so many sets of pencils, pens, & markers I'm always looking for the next thing to learn. I can't wait to see more videos & to receive my shipment.

I love this video, it really helped me learn beginning grayscale technique. Can you make a video for more advanced techniques? How you use multiple colors to shade, etc? Thanks for making these!!

I'm glad you liked it Jennifer! And that's a great idea for a video. I will definitely have to add it to my list! Thanks for the suggestion. =)

Great video thank you.. wondering after the picture is done with using the petroleum jelly do you have to spray it down with a fixative? does the petroleum jelly leak through the paper from one side to the other or does it touch the other page when you close the book? Ty

after watching your video, I logged onto Amazon and purchased Vol. I and Vol. II of your Spellbinding Images. What beautiful coloring books. You added such valuable info/tips and I love the small practice pictures. The paper choice is wonderful. You really thought out a wonderful product. I will be recommending your books to all my friends.

I'm going to pass this on to a group that I know is struggling with colouring grayscale pics. Thx, again. Any other tip/techniques you have on anything (blending/shading/colouring background trees, shrubs, scrub grasses), pls do so I can learn, especially the background foliage. Mine just look like green blobs. Lol.

Thanks Cleo! I appreciate you passing along the videos. =) I don't currently have a video like that, but maybe I can make one in the future. =)

Also, for myself, I'm getting pretty good with the grayscale, as beginner. Have you any videos on more advanced grayscale techniques or tips? I'd really appreciate anything you can offer.

That's a great idea Cleo! I have some advanced tips in my Advanced Edition grayscale coloring books, but I should make a video demonstrating those techniques. I added it to my list of ideas for videos. I hope to get some time to make some new videos soon! =)

Great video --- I am wondering if you would recommend using petroleum jelly method for a background ?

Can you also just go over the color again with petroleum jelly to blend instead of dipping the pencil?

can you use markers? i have never colored in grayscale,it looks so hard
@NikkiBurnette3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can certainly use markers! Markers are actually my favorite thing to use on grayscale coloring pages. The beginner's version of books make it really easy to use markers and apply solid color over an entire area while the grayscale shading underneath does all the work. :)

Nikki, what paper have you printed on? I bought some X-Press It Blender Card for my Copics, and it says its great for printing with both inkjet and laser printers, which would be great for saving your coloring pages by printing the images out instead. Waiting for shipment to come in so I can test it.
@NikkiBurnette8 жыл бұрын
+Silvara Majere I actually used the X-Press It Blender Card for the marker version that I did of Sydney! www.aurella-art.com/sydney-a-marker-grayscale-coloring-tutorial.html I enjoyed using it. I thought the markers worked very well on it and didn't spread much at all. I felt like I wasn't using as much ink out of the marker which was nice since it's so expensive to refill them! My only issue with the paper is that I felt that there were little white specs everywhere when I printed on it. I have an inkjet printer and maybe it was just the setting that I used...I'm not sure. Or maybe I'm just too picky lol. But the printing just didn't seem to be as smooth on it as its been on other papers designed for inkjet printers. I would love to know your thoughts though once you use it, so please let me know! I've been using some Spectrum Noir paper that they sent me with my markers and I like it a bit more than the X-Press It Blender Card just because I don't seem to get those white specs everywhere.

is there residue left after using the petroleum jelly? how do you remove it if so?
@NikkiBurnette7 жыл бұрын
Great question! There definitely isn't as much left over as you would think. When I started using it, I thought it would be a greasy mess, but that hasn't been my experience at all. There is always a few little globs here or there left over, so what I do is place a napkin or paper towel over the entire coloring when I'm done working on it for the day and then lay a heavy book on top. The napkin will absorb any extra. Just remove it the next day when you're ready to color again! If there are a couple splotches leftover, you can always dab them (don't rub) with a clean napkin. Hope that helps! =)

what is the best brand of colored pencils to use? I typed in Faber Castell on Amazon and some were really expensive. Do the pencils you're using need to be sharpened a lot?
@NikkiBurnette7 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily! I find that the pencils don't need to be sharpened a lot when you use petroleum jelly like I show in the video. You can use any type of colored pencil you like really. I've tried all different sorts...some expensive, some inexpensive. And they all have their pros and cons. I really like Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor and Prismacolor Premier. I find these two brands work the best in my books with the petroleum jelly technique. =)

Do we need any fixative for sealing?
@NikkiBurnette7 жыл бұрын
Hi! I personally don't use a fixative. I just slide them into sheet protectors after I'm done coloring. But you certainly can! I would just suggest to test them first before using them on your final colorings. Some fixatives have a tendency to darken your image.
@PurpleButterfly0938 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the tips! I do have a question, though, how often should you dip the pencil in the petroleum jelly, especially if it's for a big area?
@NikkiBurnette8 жыл бұрын
I usually dip the pencil into the petroleum jelly again when I feel the pencil start to drag. You will notice that it's not quite as smooth when you're coloring, so that's when it's time to reapply. I find that I reapply it fairly often...probably less than a minute of coloring goes by before I feel like I need more on the pencil. I hope that helps! =)
