I just want to say, I have watched SEVERAL videos on how to color skin,, and this is one of the easiest videos I have seen to follow. I love how you mentioned exactly what steps you were taking and just the way you colored it in general was amazing. Thank you for making this video. It really helped me a lot.

The greyscale in your books are so dark I hesitate to order them. I returned two from another artist because I didn’t see how I could color over those dark dark shadows! Now I have your videos I will watch everyone. Then I won’t be afraid to order your books.😊

Beautiful. I love how lightly you use the pencils. Barely touching the paper. I'm not heavy-handed by any means, but you make me feel like I have a lot to practice to get lighter and thus able to use more layers.

Dear Ruth Sanderson, Thank you so much for producing and sharing this video! Prismacolor colored pencils are my favorite as well. I have your coloring books in my "save for later" area of my shopping cart at Amazon. I absolutely love your art, and would love to purchase this one, your your Cinderella, Goldilocks, and Christmas book! The thing is; I'm new to adult coloring books, and grayscale coloring books were a brand new concept for me, and especially intriguing. I did a little research, and realized I wanted to steer clear of CreateSpace paper, as there are so very many complaints about it, and I don't want it to eat up my colored pencils. I actually purchased one of Selina Fenech's grayscale books, because the description listed a different publishing company. But, as it turns out, I'm pretty sure it is actually printed on CreateSpace paper. I've used only one page in the book, because the paper is, well...bad (for me, and my pencils, at least the way I've tried to use them. It didn't work well, even with odorless mineral spirits. I also have a Jade Summer book, that's on CreateSpace paper. I caan't use my only two coloring books I got, as I'm waiting to figure out a way to use them. So, until just now, I've been under the impression that all CreateSpace paper is the same. But, I just followed your link to this book on Amazon, and it states that the paper is 60 lb. in weight. I'm sure the paper in the other two books I have are not that heavy. Do you know if all the CreateSpace Published coloring books are printed on the exact same paper? I understand I could purchase your books in PDF format, but I don't own a printer, and my local print shop said I would have to have permission from the artist (you) to pay them to print the books/pages out for me. I would just buy a printer, but I'm disabled, and living off of Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits which leaves very little each month for me to spend on myself. I know you are busy, and I hope you might be able to write back to me, I would very much appreciate it! I don't know if you sometimes reply to comments, but I have my fingers crossed. I'm not meaning to criticize anyone, or any companies. The paper in my two books just doesn't work well for me. It may work beautifully for others. Thank you so much for your gorgeous art, for sharing it with the world, and for sharing on KZbin! Much Love

Hi Stacey, I am sorry the paper does not work for you. Create Space claims the paper is 60#, and to me it is like a sketch paper, with nice tooth for coloring with colored pencils. I do like building up many layers slowly and usually blend with Gamsol or a colorless marker, but thought I would do burnishing this time. I did the very detailed picture from Cinderella in my 5-video series right in the book itself, and I was amazed by the beautiful results, which to me end up looking like an original painting. I actually really like the tooth of the paper, and while I would prefer it was thicker, I can work with it just fine. I respect other's opinions of course. I also can't stand Polychromo pencils and know other people love them!

excellent info. for portraits as I've noticed a lot of nice, otherwise, beautiful coloring videos that are messed up only by the coloring of the face.

how did you come to doing greyscale ? Is it easier to draw and render? Also i noticed your gloves . I have the same gloves. Do they help you as much as they do me? Also you are seriously talented.

So if u use just light peach,on all of the face,do u just use the peach on only the shadow areas,and work nectar in on the shadows as well?
@RuthSanderson
@RuthSanderson Жыл бұрын
Yes, I find Peach a bit dark for the light side of face, though on edges like hairline it works well. Or a bit to add "blush" though I tend to use light pink for that. Experiment and see what works for you. You may want a slightly darker tone (Peach) for light side, in cheek and nose, especially transition areas between light and shadow.

What kind of gloves do you have on that's great for not smirring the pencil color all over the page?
@NoDontLikeIt
@NoDontLikeIt 3 жыл бұрын
You can use any kind of “art” or “artist” glove for that. Many gloves just cover the last few fingers and wrist. But I also like to use “arthritis” or “hand pain” gloves-which may be what this person is using, as only the tips of the fingers are uncovered
