Here is a quick tip on how to turn your grayscale paintings into color so you can continue working on them easier with color. It's a great technique which I've used several times in both character and environment art.

One other non destructive and very flexible way to do this is by using an Adjustment Layer to add the Gradient Map. This way the map is on its own layer and can be adjusted at any time during the process. Also, it works as a mask so adding color to objects is made much simpler. Look for Adjustment Layers down at the bottom right close to the "delete layer" button and select Gradient Map. The Linear Dodge effect you demonstrated is beautiful. Thank you very much for the helpful tips. *Subscribed*

Thanks for the great tip! The reason I -very- rarely use Adjustment layers is because I don't like to have "bridges" when I paint. Meaning I like to go at it naturally and what things I apply on the painting, will then have been applied. However, when it's a big painting, I often use Adjustment layers in the very end of the piece to get it exactly how I want to with curves, sharpening, color grading, and any other effects. Thanks again for your tip. :) Best, W.

Thank you very much! Your tutorials are interesting, simple and helpful. I was inspired :) I'm experienced in digital painting and I've already known about gradient map (I use the adjustment layer). But your video gave me some new tips - I've learned about linear dodge for example. And thank you for the brashes pack, I'm interested to try it :D

Hey, this was massively helpful, thank you for this! But also I was just wondering how you brought up the hue/saturation tool? At the moment I can only bringing it up by putting on an adjustment layer, and I wasn't sure if there was something else I could do to adjust it on a specific layer.
@WalidFeghali
@WalidFeghali 7 жыл бұрын
Can you specify where in the video you mean? But if it's only to bring up the hue/saturation tool whenever, you can press ctrl/cmd + U and that should do it. :) Good luck!

Yes I use a tablet. For 6 years I had the Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch, but now have upgraded to the Wacom Intuos Pro medium because I had outgrown the smaller one. I have an article on picking your first tablet on my site www.evenant.com :) check design and then basics!
