Alex, I notice that Gray tends to stop after completing an obstacle. Perhaps, a little flipper under the end part might help him not stop and pause. Or, you know, boom.

Have some major chaos start whenever Gray stop. NO delay. Have some minor chaos when he go to slow, like under 60Km/h or something, for to long, like after 5 seconds.

Another option : Disable the brakes, or have them only work on a single wheel. Reset the last check point if he stop. You passed that check point but you stopped, you explode and respawn to the previous one. Do NOT explain what just happened.
