The part about the domain of potential values for which the entire equation holds true is REALLY IMPORTANT and not stressed or reinforced enough, because it is an inherent constraint that we are all supposed to know, and I am among those who did not, and I'm over here hopping up and down on one foot spluttering "but what about 0!?!?" And it never occurred to me that the values had to hold the equation true. Until now.

Sir, when x=y in the last question.. We can also take x=y=0, since there is no restriction on x and y and that would make the denominator 5y-x as 0 which isn't possible.. So won't the answer be D ?

We can't use x = 0 and y = 0, because that pair of values does not satisfy the given equation: 24y/(5y -x)=6

If x is equal to y then it will always consistently equal y. The value of x and y cannot be 0, and the fraction cannot be undefined like you suggested because they already told you that 24y over something is equal to 4. That is another way of implicitly stating that x can never equal 0, and since y is equal to x, neither variable has a value of 0 Hypothetically, if the fractions were to be undefined as you suggested, why does it matter? x is 0 y is 0. How does this lead you to think that the relationship cannot be determined?
