For everyone who keeps getting confused about the main singer for this, it's Kinickie not Danny. In the musical, the name Greased Lightning was made up by Kinickie, and this is noted when Kenickie and Roger are talking about what Kenickie was doing all Summer. Danny is the back up singer. Yes the movie and the musical are different but the musical originally made Kinickie the singer of Greased Lightning before the movie.

Kinickie sings Greased Lightning in the musical but Danny sings it in the movie because John Travolta had a diva moment and wanted to sing it x

That's not how the story goes. The producers wanted Travolta to sing it, because he was the lead. Apparently, he did his pieces, because he wanted Jeff Conaway to sing it, because it was his moment.
