Okay, the flying car thing. This may be utter bullshit, but it’s been my explanation for years. Earlier in the movie before the race, the lesbian shop teacher says a comment. “If this car was in any better shape, it would fly.” So the car got wrecked in the race and now it’s fixed at the end, therefore being in better shape.

my ted talk about the sandy makeover thing: people always say that sandy's makeover is problematic and un-feminist and the argument that she changed for him but he didn't change for her - but danny never seemed to want her to change her style or personality for him (other than wanting to make out with her) and he tells the t birds that she means a lot to him and he'd do anything for her before she shows up all "bad sandy". as a feminist who grew up with this movie i always felt it was her breaking out of her comfort zone/societal "good girl" mold and having cute bonding with the pink ladies in some *fabulous* off screen montage where they lend her clothes and show her all those moves. idk, that's just me.

The only Pink Lady she bonded with was Frenchy not to mention Frenchy liked Sandy for who she was. The others especially Rizzo were snooty towards Sandy Rizzo even said "She looks too pure to be pink." Sandy wasn't breaking out of her comfort zone when she changed her look she changed because no Danny couldn't accept her for who she is. Danny was ashamed of her when he went to the diner & saw his crew & the other Pink Ladies there. He literally ran into the diner with Sandy so they wouldn't be s po spotted. Danny didn't even have the balls to tell the other T-Birds & Pink Ladies to piss off he wants some privacy with his girl. Unlike Kenickie & Rizzo who told the T-Birds to beat it so they can knock boots.

@@catspawgardner3213 sure, not rizzo but in the "tell me about it, stud" scene marty, jan and frenchie are all behind her looking excited/rooting for her, showing her how to stomp out the cigarette etc. and pretty sure danny didn't want them to crash his date, which he knew they would, because then they subsequently did - but everyone can have their own interpretation lol

Okay i have a fun storytime about grease. In high school i played rizzo in a production and kennickey (sp.?) was played by a nice short gay boy and we had a blast but everytime we did the pregnancy scene the audience laughed. And then i had to sing my heart out in an emotional ballad. So thats nicely engrained in my skull.

Fun fact about Hopelessly Devoted: It's actually a substitution for Sandy 's original ballad, Since I Don't Have You. The movie wrote Hopelessly Devoted specifically for Olivia Newton John because she couldn't reach the high notes in the other song. I don't blame her, the high notes in that song are insane, like borderline Mariah Carey it feels like half the time. Sadly, Hopelessly Devoted became iconic thanks to this movie and left Since I Don't Have You by the wayside to be forgotten. Give it a listen, it's a beautiful song and great for an audition.

I have lots of thoughts on Grease. 1 - It was the first movie I was ever allowed to see by myself in a theater. 2 - I bought the Fotonovel (basically a comic using stills from the movie), so I had big chunks of dialogue memorized. I actually bought the Saturday Night Fever Fotonovel before I saw the movie, which made for a hallucinatory experience when I finally did catch it. 3 - The Fotonovel (ugh) made it clear that they were going for a "Gift of the Magi" kind of thing with Danny & Sandy. They both changed to be what they thought the other wanted, but the other didn't really want them to change. But they found out new things about themselves in the process. 3 - It was illegal to have a sleepover without listening to the soundtrack at least twelve times. 4 - In defense of Dennis C. Stewart and Annette Charles (Crater Face & Cha Cha) - they were only 27 or 28 when they filmed Grease, which is certainly not high school age but also not ready for retirement, either.

As much as I'm enjoying this, and really wish I could be there with you with a drink in hand, I think I need to challenge you on the point of ONJ finding those pants at a thrift store. I've never seen any info about that, and she has always credited Costume Designer Albert Wolsky with putting the whole outfit together, except for the shoes. The red Candies were her own shoes, which she wanted to wear because she was comfortable in them, so they would be easier for her to dance. I've heard her in old interviews when asked if she took anything at the end of filming admit that she took the jacket and pants, and apologized to the Paramount wardrobe department. Obviously they were okay with that, lol. They sold at auction last year for a combined $405,000, all going to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Center. You are correct about her being sewn into the pants. The zipper was broken, and Albert Wolsky was afraid that if they tried to fix it they could ruin the pants, so she was sewn in in the mornings of the two day shoot, unstitched at lunch for a bathroom break, and then sewn back in. Temps were over 100 degrees, and she had to take only small sips of water so they wouldn't have to unstitch her for bathroom breaks!

Some of John Travolta's choices in Grease remind me of his character in Welcome Back Kotter, '75-79. Grease came out in '78 so maybe he used a little of that. I see the SNF influence too. Loved your reactions. Holy cow, just checked the dates for Saturday Night Fever '77. Travolta had a pretty successful run for those years.

The copy of Grease I had as a child was on VHS recorded from when it was on TV - the issue was the airing was mid afternoon in the UK probably on a Sunday, so a lot of lines had been cut for taste/adult themes. I recall back in the day, there was talk about a movie script that was to be a sequel to the original Grease film. It was rumored to star Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears as Danny's and Sandy's daughter and Justin as the bad boy roughneck. I also heard there was a story line theory about the movie Grease. John Travolta's character Danny, was supposedly in a coma after suffering an automobile accident shortly after having to say his goodbye to Sandy. While being in a coma his mind was filled with all the images and scenes we experienced throughout the movie. Plus, it explains the ending when he technically dies and we see him floating towards heaven next to the woman he had always loved.

Few fun facts: 1. The only reason why they made Sandy Australian is because Olivia couldn't do an American accent. 2. It was in Olivia's contract that she had to sing another solo number, so they wrote Hopelessly Devoted especially for her but the song was ready after the entire shooting script was done, so Randal Kleiser the director, decided on the spot how to film it (and obviously it shows, but I think he did the best he could). 3. In the stage version, Sandy's reprise of Look at Me I'm Sandra Dee is a full song, but since they wrote her H.D.T.Y, they've shortened it for the film (I actually love this song). 4. Also in the stage version, all the songs we hear throughout the movie in the background, are sung by the other characters on stage. (there's a great interview with Randal Kleiser on RuPaul and Michelle's podcast What's The T worth listening to) I've seen this film soooooo many times and I think Travolta in it is the hottest man alive!!! What a great episode!!!! Love you both!!! x o x o x o x

Grease was my favorite movie for a very long time as a child. I had no idea about all the innuendo in it, I just loved the outfits and songs. But looking back at it now, oof. Its still fabulous tho. I also thought it was shot in the 50's so I was super confused to learn John Travolta wasnt crazy old

The grease soundtrack and the sound of music sound track were among the first that we purchased on iTunes when my older sister got her first iPod back in like 2004/5. Grease is a masterpiece.

I remember this being one of the handful of movies the whole family would watch honestly idk why. This movie is so sexual. The fact that was 5-6 and knew that what they were doing in that car was “fun”...wow. But it’s a classic. Also as a hairstylist i can’t quite figure out how Frenchie messed up on tinting but i digress.

The principal from Grease plays the wicked stepmother in Faerie Tale Theatre's episode of Cinderella. She plays it perfectly - and another fun fact, the principal's assistant from Ferris Bueller plays one of the wicked stepsisters in that episode. It's great! edit: y'all actually referenced Faerie Tale Theatre after I posted this comment lol

"Devoon" was a Jane Mansfield-ism. It was her characteristic way of putting a stamp on the word "divine." (See: Siouxsie and the Banshees' song "Kiss Them for Me" for another pop culture reference to this Mansfield calling card)

I'm sure a lot of you already know this. But just one quick fact about grease live. Right before the show is about to start they told Vanessa Hudgens her father had just died. And ask her if she wanted her Understudy to go on. But she decided to go through with it, after months and months of preparation for this life performance. So she can really pull in a lot of emotion during there are worse things I could do, as she's feeling a lot of emotions inside. She finished the performance and then flew back to say her goodbye to her dad .

They would've said in the movie that they were related. The only cousin Sandy had was Michael in Grease 2 because Frenchy told Michael "I told Sandy any cousin of yours is a cousin of mine." When Frenchy was there to greet him when he came to Rydell.

I think that was in the play. In the movie, it was never addressed how they know each other.

FYI.... Jamie Donnelly who played Jan in Grease actually played Trixie the Usherette/ Magenta in the 1974 L.A Roxy Theatre/club production of Rocky Horror Show. That production helped kick the Movie version of Rocky horror into production. Originally Richard O' Brien wanted Jamie Donnelly to play Magenta in the movie version of Rocky Horror but Jamie wasn't available.
