Grease Packing VW Wheel Bearings by Hand

May I caution your viewers not to confuse chassis grease that comes in a tube (in order to fit into a lube gun) and wheel bearing grease that often comes in a plastic tub. The two are definitely not the same and if one lubricates wheel bearings with chassis lube (used to grease ball joints and tie trod ends, for example), the grease will fail and the wheel bearing will seize. Chassis lube is not made for high temperature use and turns into "water" when used to lube wheel bearings. The technique to pack a wheel bearing as you displayed it in this video is easy for the home mechanic to perform, although it is always best to clean the bearing thoroughly with solvent and then blow it out completely dry to get any grit and crud out of the bearing assembly, if there is any. This also ensures all the wheel bearing grease in the bearing will be 100% new when you're done. You have a great channel and have put up some really great videos. Keep it up!

Good call! You are correct! ALWAYS READ THE LABEL! In my case the tube was indeed wheel bearing grease, I usually use marine grade. I have a fear of water intrusion into anything. You should be able to see why... look at all the rust repair I handle, lol! :-D In the video that this is an extension of (hasn't been uploaded yet) you will see the bearings soaked in solvent. This process was worthy of its own video. Thanks so much for your input!
