Back in the 60s there were special adapters for hard to reach fittings but i have not seen them. This needle nose works. Good video. Thanks

Yeah I dont think that is a "needle" nozzle in America either....because there is also an actual "needle" nozzle that is much skinnier and doesnt have a rubber tip. It looks like a large needle and has an angled tip. It could easily be used to stab someone whereas this could not. We have some tractors that use them, and they will poke through my gloves when I'm not careful.

That's 2 new ones on me, first off I never saw U joints with the grease fittings in the end like the first one you did. Second I never knew the needle greaser was in existence, how ever it does remind me of the nose greasers on chainsaws that had the roller nose.
@SteveAZ7116 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was quite concerned when I put that u-joint in that I may not be able to grease it. I think some older Chevys used this type.

What kind of grease did you use? Is there a difference between the grease used for bearing/hubs and the u joint one? I heard that you’re not supposed to mix greases made up of different compulounds….
@SteveAZ711 Жыл бұрын
I have always used a good brand of high temperature wheel bearing grease for both applications. You want the high temperature grease because of the stress and heat from friction.
@md650003 жыл бұрын
Thank you--I just bought some u-joints that had that same weird little grease fitting (that no regular gun would attach to). I didn't know what the heck to do with them!! Now hopefully I can find that needle somewhere today!

thanks for showing this.. when they said it used a needle nozzle.. i got the "needle" one.. and stuck it in the small hole I could find.. I was doing it wrong.. lol.. btw do you recommend the style of grease gun you have for this kind of application or do you think the smaller ones would be a much better choice?
@SteveAZ711 Жыл бұрын
I like the smaller ones as they can be operated with one hand, and are easy to maneuver in tight places However, they do not hold a lot of grease compared to the larger guns. I have a few of both size(s accumulated over the years), and I generally use the larger one when I run across a fitting that dried grease inside needs more pressure (both hands) to force open. Sometimes one just has to replace the fitting though.

so how to grease a nipple inside a uni joint where the space between is to small for the head of the grease gun to fit into!!!
@SteveAZ7113 жыл бұрын
In the past I was able to raise one side of the rear of the car and put the trans in neutral. Then I turned the rear tire and watched as the drive line moved and was able to find a wider spot to get to the nipple. I think that is what you are asking. This can be dangerous as the vehicle must not be able roll or fall in any way. Also if the driveline was repaired and the nipple put in, say backwards then the grease gun will have no way to get to it. Probably have to remove the drive line to get to that nipple...and then change it.

Use the grease that comes in a tube that you are used to using. A good wheel bearing grease should be sufficient.
