great video.. I have recently heard and felt a creaking sound emanating from the front suspension and steering of my 2001 VW Caravelle . after viewing a guy greasing his SEALED ball joints I copied his method and drilled a 3.32 hole in the ball joint where a grease nipple would normally be situated .. After injecting grease into all of the rod ends and ball joints the annoying ceaking and vibration had gone and my front suspension and steering was so much more fluid . I had recently replaced the shock absorbers front and back and I was almost convinced it was one of the new shocks creaking . the local agricultural supplier had some grease nipples and stainless steel needles which provided the perfect way to add grease into the joints .

I saw a YT video on greasing different suspension parts that do not have a grease fitting using a grease gun needle available from most auto parts supply stores The video showed how to use the needlel to pierce thru the rubber boot,( at the top to force the grease down and push the contaminates out the bottom), then clean the penetration's point with any type of solvent, and seal it with super glue. Be sure to mark the penetration point so you can use it again for greasing's next time. Seemed to make sense to me.

@fluffyhellion4 жыл бұрын
Be careful, there is pressure inside joints, nipples, etc and can explode grease out fast enough to do damage. There's a very important reason why grease guns warn you of serious injury or death and amputation... When grease gets shot into your body it isn't compatible with your tissues. It causes necrosis, gangrene, compartment syndrome and sepsis. It will feel like a little sting and you must IMMEDIATELY go to the ER for surgery if you feel that little sting. They have to cut out all tissues that touched grease. It's called 'pressure injection injury' and can happen from paint sprayers as well. They sell safety fittings and there is info on how to minimize risks. The pressure between the nipple and the nozzle can reach 15000psi and a droplet of grease can kill you. Sorry, I'm honestly not trying to sound all fatalist and stuff, but this ends careers and lives. Livelihoods gone to machismo. Do it for your family and your future, learn the risks.

The front diff and transfer case have given me zero problems. I did install the case saver to avoid the pump rub issues. I use my yukon's 4x4 at least 4 times a year on some pretty gnarly trails.

Yeah that's because car companies know that most people dont take care of their cars so they do that to make them last longer for the average driver even though they cut the life of those parts down for the people who actually care about their cars it's pretty sad... Just dont be fooled by the "lifetime" transmission fluid it lasts 100k miles technically but the optimal time to change it to make your tranny last longer is about 60k also the rubber boots tend deteriorate before the grease does so I would use some of that spray sh!t that makes your rubber boots last longer. In my opinion they shouldn't have done that people who care about their cars deserve the extra life of parts people who don't deserve the extra cost.

I notice on man almost every one of these videos after greasing you rip the little connector loose from the zert if you'll look more carefully at it or read the back of the package on one that's new it twists on and twist off loosen it up put it on the zert then twist it tight. To take it off again to twist it couple of turns and lift it off look at 1 when it's new the 3 or 4 Little clamps inside go over the top of the zert about like hooking a trailer over the towing ball hitch then you tighten it up it stays on until you loosen it. Dont rip it off. now you have both hands-free to pump your grease gun.

@@AnthonyJ350 NLGI GC-LB greases can be made from different bases and additives. Some have soap based thickeners, some are lithium etc. The uses rating does not guarantee compatibility.

@@dvcavall Just put Lucas Red and Tacky in. How are you going to test the grease if someone else did a chassis lube or you bought the vehicle used?
@dvcavall2 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 Exactly my point. The recommendation would be to use the manufactures grease such as Mopar chassis grease for a jeep and hope what was used before isn't incompatible. I have had grease liquify because they were two incompatible greases. The industry should standardize on colors for the different base types that are compatible and problem would be solved. Lucas Red n Tacky is Lithium based. If what was used before was aluminum, calcium or clay based the grease will fail. The point I was making was that grease is not all the same and that there are other important considerations besides how to pump grease into a zerk fitting. . Search for a grease compatibility chart and you will see the problem.

@@dvcavall Do chassis shops practice that? I'm pretty sure they just shoot in whatever is in their gun. How often do components fail due to this? I understand the premise, but there's theory vs practical application.

Fluid Film would be better because it doesn't degrade rubber or plastic. Whatever you pick it has to be safe for those materials.

For chassis components I just use a multi-pupose grease. You have to note the operating temperature of the grease and also if it's compatible with plastic components depending on parts equipped on your vehicle.
