That wheel wobble could be suspension related if the wheel fix doesn't totally secure it up..love your progress very cool to see!

Thanks man. Trying to solve the issue now. 👍

@@GreaseRookie have you filled your control arm grease fittings? I have a 66 coupe and just filled the fittings again the other day and it's night and day now! I also replaced the bearing though so it's hard to tell which played the more important role

Great seeing her on the road!!! You have come so far and it is wonderful to see all that work paying off. I am glad I don't have to worry about inspections down here. I am working on installing my Sniper EFI now. Hoping that is a big improvement over my leaky carb.

Awesome progress from a fellow Pennsylvanian! Looking great for sure. I didnt (and still dont at the moment) have the washer system in my 66 and it still passed inspection. I believe it was an option at that time and not standard but I may be mistaken. The 66 we are driving and almost done with and the 65 we have didnt have any washer previsions when we aquired them.

Loos good with those turbine style wheels 😎 So, what I've learned about vibrations and wobbles are, if you feel them in your seat, it's usually on the rears and in the front it comes thru the steering wheel. And as for the front wheel bearings, I'd tend not to use that breaker bar to tighten the nut up, with a long bar it's real easy to overtighten and put way too much pressure on the bearing and race. Try channel locks and spin the drum while tightening then back it off until you get the codder pin to fit and should be good from there. Also, Eastwood maks a fender roller to help allievate the rubbing issues, I think they're around $90 and I've seen them on Amazon too, for $35 and up. Just make sure if you find one they are adjustable like Eastwoods are. She's come a long way and you'll enjoy driving her, ur almost there ! Oh yea, got a nice stance too 👍👍👍

Awesome. Also the spring perches on these cars are super tight and cause all sorts of unpleasantness when driving. Roller perches are the way to go. I need to fly up there and do some part picking too...
@donthompson21882 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, nice to see it on the road. Now comes the refinement phase. Smooth and reliable are the new orders. Check the underside of that spindle. It looks like you are tightening those wheel bearings too much. That play could be wear on the bottom side. Maybe a bearing spun the inner race. My Betsy is getting new spindles this time around for that very reason. Tightening that bearing too much will cause failure.

My old camaro had a similar issue and I found it to be that it needed some ball joints. Possibly what the mustang needs
@fhionnsgarage47702 жыл бұрын
Awesome job man! Shes lookin good. Check for a bent wheel or possible warped drum on the front. I had that Issue on my Fury.
@OlysGarage2 жыл бұрын
Hell YEAH Andrew! Think we talked about this before, the tires are probably a size too big for that wheel and offset on the front. Like you mentioned could have a wheel out of balance too. Swap both front tires with the rears (same side) and see if that wobble moves. I did notice too how your front wheels are very far forward in the wheel opening. You can correct this with strut rod adjustments however, that's an easy way to mess up your castor angle.....or IS what's messed up. Manual steering uses less castor than power steering. An alignment will solve all of this as long at the shop doing it, is familiar with older cars. SO happy for you man!!!! Almost legit! Been working on my '73 Duster a bit lately...filming a bit of that. But I'm a waaaaayyyys off from editing it.

Wheel bearings ha try having your brakes completely fail while on your way to work, maybe 2mi. away.
@JesseJimenez11012 жыл бұрын
Assuming you’ve gotten a good alignment done. I’m mine there were a lot of shims that needed to be removed that were uneven on one side than the other. Also, after the shim removal the spacing issue you’re having went away on mine.

When you think of what it looked like just a few months ago it looks amazing now! Take a look and check your upper and lower ball joints while you are at it. From where I was looking it looked like you have the wheel bearing way too tight now. Can you hear it making noise while you are driving?
@RustysMustangGarage2 жыл бұрын
Awesome getting it on the road. Not sure if the front end alignment has been done yet, BUT, it looks like the front wheels are too far forward. Maybe that is the reason the tires rub??

Having had a wheel fall off my '66 coupe while going down a busy road, I understand that fear. I'll never get the awful crunching noise it made.

It's come a long way! That aside, surely there's a junkyard disc brake retrofit option for that car, even if it requires some aftermarket dog-bone adapter plates. Drum brakes are pretty terrible on a street car, especially when you're competing with so many modern cars running 4 pot calipers, double-wishbone suspension and better tyres that can stop in a fraction of the distance. I once owned a Honda with terrible brakes (just a beater to get me around whilst working on my car) and the number of near-rear-enders I had really hammered home the need for good brakes. Better cars could stop suddenly and I was left standing on the pedal and praying. Don't be like me lol.

Why not try a smaller diameter front tire instead rearranging the sheet metal?

That would have been the smarter approach. I took a cheaper more stubborn approach lol.
