Love the new Greasy Time format JD. I love your playing and vibe (been watching and listening to you since your Don Kelly days) and it’s just as easy and interesting to listen to you talk about whatever’s on your mind. Keep it up brother!

Great to see you now have a channel. You have a lot to offer. I got to meet you when you played 3 nights in Cornwall UK (saw all three) as a warm up to Rambing Man.

Last weekend I paid a regular visit to the boys. There's something really special for me walking from Levons to Ricks plot.😊 Thanks for the video.

Totally agree. Levon Helm strongly felt that Robbie claimed credit/ownership to too many songs and business arrangements. I guess we'll never know. But I know the music of the band would not have been the same without Levon, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson. But it also sounds like Robertson had many of the basic song ideas. To me, I think the band would have benefited by an equal split. But, like you said, only those five guys knew the truth.

RIP Robbie. Good to hear about Kirk doing a bit better. I have the Cobra Records Story - Chicago Rock and Blues 1956-1958 with some of the same artists you mentioned, and others, if that's the one. Thanks for reminding me about it, whether it's the same cd set or not, haha.

Growing up, I read an article where some band members had to borrow hamburger money off the singer (writer) on the tour bus. So I made it a point to always split evenly. Although it bit my ass, because I had a production partner in LA who got 50% of some hits we had, when he wasn't even in the studio when I wrote. Or was sleeping 90% of the time or just didn't show up. Anyway, years later his wife accused me of pulling the wool over his eyes. LOL. He still makes money off my work. Oh well.

The Band didn't jam. They got together to write and contribute. How do you quantify all that in fluid situations like these guys sequestered up at Big Pink? Like the intro lick to "My Girl," surely all of the guys contributed arrangements and harmonies and maybe even words. I think being therefore generous when it comes to songwriting and publishing would be the best policy.

The My Girl lick was a label musician/publisher musician in that ‘stable’ of paid ‘horses.’ So fairly or not, he got paid how he got paid. The fair thing, imo, would be he gets a base salary but also a percentage of all future $ from that song. That percentage amount is negotiable. Same thing w/ band members who are not listed as songwriter on whatever song. The royalties of a song go to listed songwriters. If there is sharing of that, thats on the songwriter. But album sales & tour income gets split evenly amongst all band cats. That’s my view…that to me is fair. And i know zero about how session guys get paid…where that $ comes from to pay them.

If a collected bunch of musicians collaborate no matter the size of contribution should share equally. Even the smallest contributions can make the difference

Speaking of Bloomers, I recommend David Dann's "Guitar King," in the unlikely event that you haven't checked it out yet. More Bloomfield knowledge than I knew existed. Far as Kennedy-related stuff, "Don DeLillo's "Libra" is an amazing- albeit fictional-take on Oswald. Also recommend another novel inspired by DeLillo's book, James Ellroy's "American Tabloid." Pure voyeurism, but incredibly well-written.

Definitely what you mentioned plus add money, ego and things like sex, drugs etc holy crap yes I totally agree some of my favorite bands broke up or members were fired because of money 💰 or percentages or I'm the singer I deal with more stress I deserve half type shit

have you read "Dallas 1963"? its kinda a major event play by play for the year leading up to the assassination, somewhat unbiased, doesn't address "conspiracy" theory directly
