I remember my dad took us to a drive-in theater to watch a double feature, "The Magnificent Seven" and "Return of the Seven" when I was a kid. I love westerns, thanks for your videos.

Some of the greatest westerns of all time - a bit more sophisticated than most ‘50s westerns but just as good in the action department.

I remember after seeing The Wild Bunch that it would bring in a new era of westerns. The actiion was fantastic.

The Wild Bunch was Sam Peckenpah's greatest film, IMHO. He (finally) had a project with a bigger budget (much of which was spent on booze for himself and several actors), and he really came through. It is not only one of the greatest westerns of the '60s; it is one of the greatest westerns ever -- AND one of the greatest adventure films ever. I saw it when it was released. On the big screen, with my girlfriend (who thought it was too violent, though I loved it). The entire cast was outstanding, and the cinematography is amazing. Needless to say, the director was brilliant. Unforgettable "bloody porch" scene; but the best scene was, simply, "the walk." Movies don't get much better than that.

All Great Westerns, My Number One Western Has Always Been “The Wild Bunch.” I Am Glad You Included “Hombre” & “Nevada Smith. Randolph Scott Western “Comanche Station” & Charlton Heston Western “Will Penny” Should Be There.

A great list of movies but you missed several great ones as well. You left out 1966's 'El Dorado', 1967's 'Will Penny', 1961's 'One Eye Jacks' and two from 1969 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' and 'Mackennas Gold'. I am sure there are others but these five are great often overlooked westerns. I also noticed no "Spaghetti Westerns" made this video.

“El Dorado” is actually a 1967 release, though it was filmed a year prior and prints bear the copyright date of 1966. Paramount decided not to release it as originally planned in the summer of ‘66 for fear it would hurt ticket sales of their other big western of that year, “Nevada Smith.”

Good choices, Clint's holster's were made by Andy Anderson. He used them for every western he made. Steve McQueen also used them in The Magnificent Seven and Nevada Smith.

I think it was the best decade. Before, the films were a bit simpler. The '60s saw a lot more depth, anti-heroes, flawed men. Many of my favourites are in this list.

A good list of the Great Westerns, and not the ant-Westerns. Its funny, but the Sixties are also notable for the decline of good Westerns as a whole. During this time period there were far more bad westerns being made, than there were good.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, didn't make the list? Are you nuts?😮

I think I mentioned at the outset I filtered out Spaghetti Westerns for this video. Both the movies you mention are mentioned in many of my videos. See my Spaghetti western video and Robert Redford westerns video amongst others. I also have a video on top 60's westerns

@@famouspeople63Perhaps it was your intention to mention filtering Spaghetti Westerns, but that didn't make the video. You should speak with your editor! :)

I didn't like Neveda Smith at all. I really hated in Hang em High, when they hung those two boys. I think the judge should have given them a break, because of their age and actions. Hombre was the bomb. Especially when John Russell asked Cicero Grimes how he is going to get down. lol. The lady said, Cicero Grimes, meet John Russell. Best Part.

The Apple Dumpling Gang with Don Knotts and Tim Conway.

A good pairing but it's a shame that Tim Conway and Harvey Korman never worked together in a western film. Time Conway in his old man persona would have made a hilarious old prospector in Blazing Saddles though his delivery of authentic frontier gibberish might have been a bit slow for the pace of the film;).
