I remember watching The Good/Bad/Ugly in theatres in 1967. It was THE SECOND FEATURE (at nearly 3 hours). The audience sat in stunned silence, but I howled at this intense parody of Westerns. Still enjoy!

That's what it's all about. Enjoying the genre!

Hands down this is the top 5 westerns of all time & all of them were made in the 1960's : 1# The Good The Bad & The Ugly 2# The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 3# Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid 4# Once Upon A Time In The West 5# For A Few Dollars More

🐴you covered 1 & 3 of the dollar trilogy but never mentioned For A Few Dollars more which is possible Lee Van Cleefs greatest western performance plus the pairing of him & eastwood as reluctant partners gives us one of the screens best ever duos with an end duel tha was matched but not bettered by the third film in the trio🐎...

Agreed - FAFDM was superb.......

For a Few Dollars More was quite superior to A Fistful of Dollars, but doesn't get the respect it deserves.

John Wayne also made the Commancheros, the Alamo and McLintock in the 60s. McLintock is a western version of the Taming of the Shrew, many laughs.

Yes, can't fit them all in unfortunately

Undisputably a great list but"Ride the high country" and a forgotten gem "Will penny" at least deserves an honourable mention.

Thanks for mentioning, I have videos including them in the channel. Have a look at my video on Charlton Heston Westerns, Hesterns Westerns! High Country also in Videos on Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott

I never could understand why True Grit was considered one of John Wayne's best westerns. It was good, yes, but there were so many others that were far better. And, I don't why, but there was something about Glen Campbell's character that always seemed off to me. I don't know if he was trying too hard to play up the part or if he just wasn't that good of an actor. This is one case where I like the remake more than the original.

Campbell was not a good actor and to me it is his poor performance that keeps 'True Grit' from being a great movie.
@chrishampton8842 Жыл бұрын
The remake was better IMO

John Wayne's best performances - in my opinion - were Red River and The Searchers. True Grit was a "lifetime award" in essence.

A tough selection of movies in a decade with some really great westerns. I like that you gave kudos to Akira Kurosawa for his movie 'Seven Samurai' influencing 'The Magnificent Seven'. However, you missed giving Kurosawa credit for his influencing 'A Fist Full of Dollars' which is the exact same plot line as Kurosawa's 1961 'Yojimbo'.
@porflepopnecker4376 Жыл бұрын
Kurosawa gets credit right in the opening titles of "The Magnificent Seven."
@actionjackson1stIDF Жыл бұрын
@@porflepopnecker4376 Yes for the 'The Magnificent Seven' but not for 'A Fistful of Dollars' which is based on Kurosawa's 1961 movie 'Yojimbo'. Both have exact same plot line with a stranger playing two rival families in a village against each other. Since 'A Fistful of Dollars' is often credited with kicking on the Spaghetti Western genre if would only be fair to credit Kurosawa's influence.
