Funny story regarding our new prosecutor: Van Zieks's name was at first conceived as "Prosecutor Rival", but this was quickly dropped due to it being too obvious. Shu Takumi has stated that there is an origin behind Barok's name, however he considers it too embarrassing to talk about.His surname van Zieks may be a pun on the term banjikyūsu (万事休す) meaning "there is nothing more that can be done; it's all over". van Zieks by itself can also be translated to "of the sick" in Dutch, possibly if unintentionally referencing the Grim Reaper's emergence as a psychopomp during the Black Plague; such fits well with van Zieks' "god of death" persona.Barok's first name is homonymous with Baroque, a style of European architecture, music, and art of the 17th and 18th centuries that followed mannerism and is characterized by ornate detail. In order to make him seem more "English", van Zieks has a unique design for his speech bubbles that is blue and white, rather than the usual red and gold of the other speech bubbles. Kazuya Nuri incorporated themes of vampires, werewolves and fallen angels in van Zieks's design to illustrate the theme of a god of death and an upper-class character. The fallen angel theme is shown most explicitly in a cross-shaped scar across the bridge of his nose, as well as in a post-Nintendo Direct trailer of The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures, which briefly depicts black wings behind van Zieks as he is introduced. All the European nobility were marrying each other at that time, and nobody remembers that the Dutch had a globe spanning empire almost as big as the English one. Basically every name, if it hasn't been a reference to Sherlock Holmes (John Wilson, AKA Watson, and Jezail Brett (a reference to the Jezail bullet that wounded John Watson in the Sherlock Holmes stories, which ultimately sent him back to England and resulted in Holmes and Watson meeting in the first place), plus of course little miss Lestrade), has been a pun (you had prosecutor Ouchie, the military man "yes sir no sir" and his little baby "I don't know sir," the curio collector that was literally called "curio collector," and of course now "ladies first").

A year late, but I wanted to add a few more pun details. "Auchi" is the Japanese name for the Paynes, and they carry the same pun. Meanwhile, "Naruhodo" is the Japanese version of "Wright", which is a pun on the expression "Naruhodo!" which means something like "Oh, I see!"

If you notice, the knife’s position on the victim’s back is not normal. Its blade is Horizontal. Normally, when someone stab another in the back, the knife should be vertical position. It’s more natural to hold in one hand. (You can see it in the illustration in the beginning of the case when Dr.Wilson/Watson narrated the case) The only time the blade is in Horizontal is when it fell from high place and accidentally stab the victim.

God, I just love watching the animations of the models, especially Ryunosuke because I love how much of a newbie he comes across as. With the straight posture and frantically looking around for a confirmation to the shuffling of papers to find the fact he just remembered, it’s like a combination of Phoenix’s maturity (which you see mostly through questioning and finding the logic) and Apollo’s eagerness (when he connects everything out and figures out what actually went down)

@@TheUltimateRare it could be, but it's very strange if so because all the other voice acting in the games (there's a lot of it in the second game) is wonderfully directed and emotional. It's really only this one single voice clip, which unfortunately is the one you hear the most. My theory is that they had some kind of really specific take in mind for the objection clip and just couldn't quite get what they wanted in the end and had to settle for whatever was closest even if it doesn't sound great.

@@TheUltimateRare i would think that's odd since his japanese voice has a lot more oomph to it. like the inner dialogue ryunosuke has is more impactful since it builds up to a strong first "objection" in japanese, while in english it's lackluster in comparison. like what Amppelix said they probably had to settle on a clip, especially with covid the devs said that they were lucky to do an english dub done in the first place. i remember in the bonus seven sins of ryunosuke naruhodo that the JP voice actor did over 20 takes before ultimately deciding the first was the best RIP
