Sooooo….. Dear Reader, this turned into a bit of a rant in support of appropriately inclusive casting. But I like it, so I’m leaving it up. Feel free to skip the rest if you just want to argue. We’re both allowed our opinions, and I’m trying not to be the person who plays that game too often, fun as it may be. Not into it on a nice Saturday afternoon. Maybe another time. Thanks. 🙂 ---- Hi Stone, It was NOT well received by the Little People community, so it kinda tried to slink off into the bushes. For the same reason as always - there were NO actors who are actually a PART of the subject demographic who could star and make the big bucks? Don’t pay a non-X to play X when there are plenty of X’s at hand who actively want to play X and are capable of it. NONE of those extras could have moved up the ladder a rung so the best LPs could have the top rung?? Do LPs really need a non-LP to portray them in anything more than a supporting role, like 3rd billing, if there is indeed marketing value in their inclusion? Top billing *literally* over the LP stars? How insulting. I don’t know the casting history, but I’m pretty sure Peter and Gary could have switched without losing a dime at the box office, even before GoT. Oldman’s not a sufficiently wider draw to go with the ‘A-lister for marketing purposes’ excuse.

Non-white people have been telling you about whitewashing for centuries. Most of you have been outright ignoring and denying it, saying things like we: "have a chip on our shoulders " or "you people make everything about race" or "playing the race card" It's takes videos like this to expose it right in your face. And even then... most of you *STILL* downplay it. They didn't even show you guys all the hundreds of minstrel shows. So it's noymt some little thing that's mainly profit driven. It's an internalized belief and mentality of prejudice, exploitation and literal subjugation of groups of people for the express benefit of another. Chattel Slavery was a *LEGAL* institution in the American colonies since 1619... before America officially became a country. America allowed Chattel Slavery to exist *AND* flourish until 1865. That's 246 *YEARS*. Almost *THREE CENTURIES* that is insane. How grossly hypocritical is that for a country that boasts it's all about "freedom" and "equality"? Does that make logical sense to you? Fun fact... Okay, not really a fun fact, but starring in The Conqueror may have actually killed John Wayne, because they filmed downwind from a nuclear testing site, which likely was a factor in John Wayne developing stomach cancer. Then again, he also smoked six packs a day, so there's that.

It’s almost as if every country who is predominantly one color who doesn’t yet understand the sanctity of other cultures will hire people of their own kind to play outside kinds. While this is offensive now, we must not cast judgements on how they operated then, for they didn’t know any better

Alot of this had to do with the Hays Code of the time which pretty much prevented studios from casting minority actors due to some arbitrary ass rules. I am so glad we don't have to deal with some mandated bullshit like that anymore.
