Great alternative heat sources you can make yourself, Waste oil burner, veggi oil burner.
With the cost of fuel to heat your homes, energy costs in general and inflation its time to start looking into alternative ways to heat your house. In this video I put together a few examples of what I think might be good options.

I saw a guy make a passive solar hot air furnace with solar panels made of plywood and lumber with a 6 or 8 inch duct painted black running through out and covered with plexiglass on the front. It was 8’ x 24’ in length and put out some serious btu’s with solar activated fans. Would be great for night heating if blown through an IBC crate full of cobblestone as thermal storage. I appreciate your video, as an off gridder facing the same issues. 👍

A friend of mine built one similar too. Surprising just how much heat he managed from it.

Thanks Kary. Personally, what I want to build is a giant sand battery underneath one end of a long greenhouse. Connected with piping a decently sized solar generator. A fair sized set up wouldn't cost more then a few thousand dollars and even here in Montana clear winter days will regen enough heat for the long cold cloudy stretches. Kary, email me, I owe you a beer for the videos. Great work, thank you.

what was so great in this video - did you get something how to build these heaters because i don't!

@@bitsmart... there are links in the description of this video - check it out. I forgot about most of these , but Robert Murray-Smith is giving step by step explanations in his videos. I mean , coil heater designs are pretty self explanatory , aren't they ?

While alcohol may be expensive to buy as a fuel, I personally would still lean more towards those systems for their ability to easily be used indoors as well as the potential to grow and make your own fuel for

Well and the fact that they can be stored for long periods of time would be a plus as well.

Thanks, first time watching. IDEAS, IDEAS? Solar in-efficiency is reported by sunlight creating excess heat. Why are panels not cooled by copper tubing pumping anti freeze to create indoor hot water just like solar hot water heaters. On the surface it sounds like more free for the taking. Has anyone tried it?

I'm surprised to learn how much alcohol (ethanol) costs over there !? Where I live , it cost about 1,5 times more than gasoline(which is more expensive than in USA) - about $2,8 per liter of 90% ethanol , but one can always make his own (we are allowed to make our own brandy and stuff - it is a tradition here - no ATF). More to the point of video - I think that anyone who is trying to find alternative solution for heating , should look first on what is most accessible and most cost effective (in terms of fuel) around his/hers home. Of course , people which live in apartment buildings have a very limited choice , unlike people that live in houses and have garages...I really wouldn't recommend the use of used/waist motor oil anywhere near the living quarters , because fumes contain a lot of carcinogenic stuff , even if burn is near complete (like 95% , with forced air). So called "pot heaters" (terracotta planting pot , or even ordinary metal pot) are pretty effective for smaller rooms , as radiant heaters.

can i use, used motor oil to replace vegetable oil?
@veggitarianredneck

Maybe, motor oil has an agent in it that prevents it from combustion but if hot enough it burns just fine

I watched your video on permenant magnet alternators which was excellent. I'm looking for something suitable for a water wheel, would you have any suggestions?

@@JK-pc4bz it always takes careful engineering to get things like this right. It's a balance of wheel diameter, rpm etc. Obviously there needs to be some kind of belt/chain drive mechanism in order to speed up the generator. Prolly the most efficiency could be obtained from a direct drive type unit, axial flux alternator with a very low speed wound stator ie lots of very fine wire. Depending on the size of the wheel you can expect anywhere from 15 to 100 watts continuous. Join me live at 12:00 mountain time, one hour ahead of now and I'll talk more about your specific situation.

Thanks, appreciate your thoughts on it...I thought it wasn't possible to get power out of my creek, but I recently found some videos made by nering industries where he uses a poncelet water wheel and generates quite a bit of power!
