It’s December of 2020, and I hadn’t heard any Christmas music yet this season. Naturally, this was the video I sought out first.

Found the video after a -404- redirection from the mail list message. Was worth the search. Reminds me of Christmas growing up near Thunder Bay on the north shore of Lake Superior. Merry Christmas everyone and safe travels if you are headed to your heart's content during the Holiday season.

Love this pure music, sung from the heart. I have followed GBS from the first time I saw those very young men singing at a small Cultures Canada performance outside the National Gallery in Ottawa. How far they have come! Bravo to making your music career in Canada and keeping to your roots.

Genevieve Lehr noted that "this cumulative song, known also as the Ten Commandments And The Twelve Apostles, has enjoyed much popularity among folksingers in the southwest of England and throughout North America. Though it has been extensively collected, it is still a curiosity and somewhat of a puzzle to folksong scholars." Thanks for sharing. :-)

This is an ancient carol older than modern English. The song is a mix of Christian and pagan themes and today makes little sense, and has inconsistent lyrics wherever you go.

Has a lot of different versions, most commonly known as "Green Grow the Rushes Oh"... date to at least the early 19th century in this form, but teaching tunes (antiphon -call/answer format) is much older.
